Description

The invention relates to a device for filling can-like containers provided with a retracted upper edge with a filling cylinder for a preferably gas-containing liquid and with a drive for moving a hollow cylinder surrounding the filling cylinder over the upper part of a container in the filling position, on the inner surface the hollow cylinder, a seal made of elastic and / or flexible material is arranged, which can be supplied with a pressure medium for sealing via a channel.
When filling containers with liquid containing gas, in particular, there is a problem in preventing the liquid supplied in a filling pipe from flowing over or out unintentionally.
EP-A-0204937 describes a further device for filling cans with a filling cylinder for a liquid and with a drive for moving a hollow cylinder surrounding the filling cylinder over the upper part of the can in the filling position. There is a seal made of elastic material on the inner surface of the hollow cylinder.
GB-A-23509 AD 1911 shows a filling device for bottles which has a stationary table and a slider with an annular hollow seal made of elastic material.
When a supply pipe for the liquid to be filled is moved through channels in the table and slide into the bottle, a pressure medium (liquid or gas) can be pressed into the hollow ring which completely surrounds the bottle head, so that the bottle is suspended from the sealing device , from the slider after a closing device, for. B. a corking device can be moved. The known filling device is not suitable for higher filling capacities due to its design and mode of operation.
The object underlying the invention is to develop a known filling device of the type mentioned.
The solution according to the invention is that the seal in the filling position in the filling position is arranged at a distance from the outlet of the liquid supply line of the filling cylinder, such that the annular contact area for the seal which is in contact with the pressure medium on the outer wall of the container is in the upper part Area of the container in which it has a maximum cross-sectional area.
Further advantageous embodiments of the invention can be found in the subordinate claims.

The advantages associated with the invention are that a good seal is created between the feed line of the liquid to be filled and the container, so that unwanted leakage of liquid, even if it contains gas, is reliably avoided. A particular additional advantage is that in the case of counter-pressure filling devices, the required tensioning gas is additionally used to press the seal against the outer wall of the container.
In contrast to filling devices with seals, which are pressurized with a pressure medium and which attach to the retracted edge of a container, the filling device according to the invention is advantageous in that, with the unavoidable sealing forces, no force components occur in the axial direction, which stress the bottoms of the containers.
Rather, the forces are symmetrical and act where the containers have their greatest rigidity and stability.

The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment.

A hollow stationary filling cylinder 1 is surrounded by a further cylinder 2, a so-called tulip, which can be moved up and down by a drive 3 in accordance with the double arrow 4. Inside the filling cylinder 1 there is a gas pipe 6, which can also be moved up and down in accordance with the double arrow 7 by a drive (not shown). The gas pipe 6 is used to supply a pressurized gas, also called span gas, which can consist of CO₂, air, nitrogen or the like. And to discharge the displaced gas from the liquid, which is also called return gas. The gas pipe 6 is provided on an outer surface 8 with a sealing ring 9 which, in the lowest position, the closed position (indicated by dashed lines and designated 9a), bears against an inner surface 11 of the filling cylinder 1. Through the annular space 12 between the filling cylinder 1 and gas pipe 6 is under gas pressure, for. B. CO 2, standing liquid can be supplied from a reservoir, not shown (arrow 13). Tension gas can be fed through a bore 14 in the gas pipe 6 (corresponding to arrow 16) and return gas can be discharged (corresponding to arrow 17).
A sliding seal 19 is located in a groove on the inner surface 18 of the cylinder 2. In a further groove 21 on the inner surface 18 there is a further seal 22 made of an elastic and / or flexible material, which is U-shaped and via one of a space 20 outgoing channel 23 is connected to the filling space 24 above the container 26 to be filled in the form of a can and below the gas pipe 6. The seal may also have another suitable shape, e.g. B. the shape of a hose (not shown).

Mit 27 ist ein Entlüftungsventil bezeichnet. With 27 a vent valve is designated.

Operation of the filling device according to the invention:
Before feeding a container 26 to be filled, the cylinder 2 and gas pipe 6 are in their upper starting position, not shown. As soon as a container 26 has been brought into the position shown, the drive 3 causes the cylinder 2 to be lowered into the position shown, the seal 22 sliding over the outer surface of the container 26 and centering it. With the cylinder 2, the gas pipe 6 is lowered in such a way that at the end of the lowering process the ring seal 9 is in the position 9a, so that there is no connection between the upper part of the annular space 12 and the filling space 24. Before releasing the supply of the gas-containing liquid, which is therefore under pressure, from the reservoir, after actuating a valve, not shown, through the bore 14 under pressure, clamping gas, for. B. CO₂₋Gas, supplied both in the container 26 and through the channel 23 into the interior 22 a of the seal 22 and the outer surface presses against the container wall 26. After pressure equalization, the gas pipe 6 is raised relative to the filling cylinder 2 so that liquid can flow through the annular space 12 into the container 26. The inflowing liquid displaces the clamping gas, which can escape through the bore 14 as return gas, for example after switching over a valve (not shown).
After filling is complete, the gas pipe is lowered into the closed position (sealing ring 9 again in position 9a) and the liquid supply is thus ended. The gas is then discharged from the filling chamber 24 through the vent valve, as a result of which the pressure in the seal 22 disappears. The pressing force caused by the clamping gas, with which the seal 22 has been pressed against the outer wall of the container, disappears. so that the cylinder 2 together with the gas pipe 6 can be slightly raised and moved to its upper starting position. The filled container 26 can then be removed and a new empty container can be fed in, whereupon the filling process is repeated.
