Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a refrigerator with an evaporator arranged in its interior or in a wall and with a bowl located in the interior for collecting the condensation water dripping or draining from the evaporator or the wall covering the evaporator.
The relative humidity in statically cooled refrigerators is usually around 40 - 45%. Such dry air can cause food to dry out undesirably. For example, it can be observed that a salad placed in a refrigerator wilts within a day.
In particular, the low relative air humidity in wine refrigerators is undesirable, since the wine can evaporate over the cork during the usually long storage times.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a refrigerator of the type specified in the introduction in which a higher relative air humidity can be maintained in a simple manner.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in a refrigerator of the generic type in that the shell is at least partially filled with a highly absorbent, porous substance which is chemically neutral in relation to water and the goods normally stored in the refrigerator. In the refrigerator according to the invention, the evaporator does this dripping condensation water used to increase the relative humidity in the refrigerator interior. Since water alone in a bowl would not lead to a significant increase in air humidity, according to the invention a well-absorbent porous substance is provided in the collecting bowl, which increases the surface area available for evaporation many times over the cross-sectional area of the bowl. This substance soaks up with the condensation water and rests in the bowl, in which there is either no free water level at all or a water level from which the porous material protrudes.
A particularly suitable substance is lava rock, which has sufficient chemical neutrality and is cheap when porous. The lava stone thus increases the surface area available for evaporation without fear of harmful side effects due to bacterial attack or algae or undesirable reactions.
The bowl receiving the porous material can consist of an adjusted bowl or else of a trough-shaped depression which is provided in a horizontal part of the inner wall of the refrigerator housing. The depression is expediently arranged in a step-like shoulder, which is formed by the niche receiving the compressor.
Usually, the condensation water dripping from the evaporator runs through a funnel-shaped drainage channel into an evaporation tray, which is attached to the compressor outside the cooling chamber, the compressor heat being used for rapid evaporation. The shell or trough-shaped depression used can likewise be provided with a line leading to an evaporation shell arranged outside of the interior on the compressor. Through this Excess condensation water is drained off, which is not absorbed by the porous substance.
The line is expediently provided with a piece of pipe that extends upwards from the bottom of the shell or wall. This siphon-like overflow then guides excess condensation water into the evaporation tray arranged on the compressor.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, in the single figure of which a vertical section through the refrigerator housing is shown in the area of the compressor niche.
The rear wall 1 of the refrigerator housing is provided with a step-
A trough-
