Abstract

The invention concerns a connector, such as a cathode ray tube support for a television set, designed to protect the contacts during storage, transport and handling. Figure 1 is a partial cross-section of one embodiment of the connector in the final production stage. The connector comprises a contact-holder housing (1) associated with a part (3) forming a sole-plate conformed with the overall shape of the housing. The sole-plate includes internal recesses (11) the number of which is equal to that of the output contacts (12), which protect and guide the latter. Application of pressure to the housing perpendicular to the printed circuit (4) causes the parts (1) and (3) to slide towards and past each other to the predetermined length of the output contacts. This result is achieved by co-operation of guiding means and ratchets integral respectively with the housing (5, 7, 8) and the sole-plate (9, 10, 10') with holes provided for this purpose in the printed circuit.

Claims (4)

  1. Connecting system comprising a connector for cathode-ray tubes such as provided for the television, intended to ensure the electrical connections between the different elements of the tube and a corresponding printed circuit board, provided with a portion protecting contact outputs during the storage, the transport and the handling of the connector on the printed circuit board, characterized in that it is constituted by a contact-carrying casing (1) supported by a sliding part forming a sole (3) conforming to the shape of the casing, provided with recesses (11) bored at (11′) in which the contact outputs (12) are inserted and thus protected in the position corresponding to the storage and to the transport, while being maintained in the said position by guiding, engaging and locking means (5-7-8) (9-10-10′) distributed between the said casing (1) and the said sole (3), said means for locking the sole (3) onto the casing (1) being forced when the sole is pressed against the corresponding printed circuit board (4) then entailing a longitudinal sliding motion between said casing (1) and the said sole (3) causing the egress of the contacts (12) from their said recesses (11) through the holes (11′) of the sole (3) and their penetration into the printed circuit board (4) with a view for them to be brazed, through the holes (13) made for that purpose in the latter (4), the connector being fastened to the printed circuit board (4) by the locking means (5-7-8) acting as anti-return means.
  2. Connecting system according to claim 1, characterized in that the guiding, engaging and locking means comprise :
    a) a flexible tongue (5) of insulating material made fast to the contact-carrying casing (1) by one of its ends and provided with a stop (7) over its length, the other end being free and ending in a bevel (6) preceded by a shoulder (8) forming a step in the said free end ;
    b) a recess (9) forming a part integral with the sole (3), in which the said flexible tongue may slide and this recess being provided with catches constituting internal projections (10, 10′) ;
    c) a bored passage-way (14) formed in the printed circuit (4) to receive the said free end of the flexible tongue (5) in such a manner that, because of its elasticity the latter (5) upon the casing-sole interpenetration pressed through the medium of the stop (7) and the shoulder (8) is bearing on either side upon the inner catches (10 and 10′) of the recess (9) made fast to the sole (3), ensuring an interlocking in the protective position in which the contacts to be preserved are included in their respective protective recesses (11) whereas upon the juxtaposition of the said connector assembly with the printed circuit (4), the said flexible tongue (5) penetrates into the latter with the result due to the bevel (6) of causing it to escape from the said inner engaging projections (10, 10′), the said shoulder (8) then forming an anti-return means by bearing upon the opposite face of the printed circuit (4), this juxtaposition having the effect upon this latter motion of causing the contacts (12) to move out of their respective protective recesses (11) and to cause them to penetrate into the holes (13) of the printed circuit (4) formed in confronting relationship with a view to allow the brazing operation.
  3. Connecting system according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that at least two flexible tongues (5) and their respective recesses (9) made fast to the sole (3) are distributed at the periphery of the connector formed of the casing-sole assembly.
  4. Connecting system according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the guiding and interlocking means may be common (11).
