Description

To handle heavy and fragile loads, it is known to use flat straps formed by a series of parallel cables which ensure a distribution of the load over the entire width of the strap see e.g. FR-A-1151492. It is also known to provide protection for the cables of the sling, either by drowning all the cables in a coating of elastomeric material, or by threading the cables in elastomeric contiguous elements arranged in staggered rows. But this coating or these protective elements virtually remove the flexibility of the strap around a longitudinal axis. This lack of flexibility has drawbacks, for example when transporting a sheet metal coil into which the strap is threaded, and risks causing deterioration of the strap. In addition, the strap cannot be easily repaired if the protection is damaged.

The present invention relates to a strap with parallel cables in which the cables are associated with protective elements arranged in rows and which avoids these drawbacks.

The strap according to the invention is characterized in that the protective elements of the same row are articulated with respect to each other with play, the elements of the various rows being interconnected by one or more connecting cables . Due to the articulated connection of the links of the same row, the strap can be folded around a longitudinal axis.

The adjacent elements of the same row can be interconnected by a hinge formed for example by a rivet. As a variant, the articulations of the various rows may consist of the same cable extending over the entire length of the strap and crossing with clearance the holes of the elements.

In a first embodiment, each protective element has an elongated light opening to the outside through an opening of width greater than the diameter of a cable but nevertheless less than the sum of the diameters of the cables which are introduced therein, so that said cables are retained in this light and the elements having their opening facing one of the sides of the strap are staggered with the elements having their opening facing the opposite face.

In another embodiment, each protection element has an independent hole for the passage of each cable. Rings can be mounted on the connection cables between the protection elements and crimped to these cables. These rings prevent the protective elements from approaching as well as moving away from each other beyond a given value.

  • La Figure 1 est une vue en plan d'une partie de la sangle, dans un premier mode de réalisation;
  • La Figure 2 en est une coupe suivant II-II de la Figure 1;
  • La Figure 3 est une vue en plan montrant deux éléments de protection articulés l'un à l'autre;
  • La Figure 4 en est une vue en élévation;
  • La Figure 5 est une vue semblable à la Figure 4 d'une variante;
  • La Figure 6 est une vue en plan d'une partie de la sangle, dans un second mode de réalisation;
  • La Figure 7 en est une coupe suivant VII-VII de la Figure 6;
Two embodiments of the strap according to the invention have been described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is a plan view of part of the strap, in a first embodiment;
  • Figure 2 is a section along II-II of Figure 1;
  • Figure 3 is a plan view showing two protective elements hinged to each other;
  • Figure 4 is an elevational view thereof;
  • Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 of a variant;
  • Figure 6 is a plan view of part of the strap, in a second embodiment;
  • Figure 7 is a section along VII-VII of Figure 6;
  • Figure 8 is an end view of a protective element of the strap of Figures 6 and 7.

As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the strap according to the invention comprises a series of parallel cables 1 which are four in number in the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2.

The cables 1 are associated with a series of protective elements which are generally designated by the reference 2 and have an approximately rectangular shape. These protective elements are arranged in rows of two and the elements of the same row are connected to each other with a certain clearance, by a rivet 3.

Each element 2 has an elongated lumen 4 which can receive with a certain play two or more cables 1 arranged side by side and opens to the outside by an opening 5 of width greater than the diameter of a cable 1 but less than twice that diameter.

The two elements of the same pair have one 2a its opening 5 facing one side of the strap and the other 2b its opening facing the other side. The pairs of elements are mounted side by side, head to tail.

The elements 2a having their opening 5 facing one side of the strap are thus staggered with the elements 2b having their opening 5 facing the opposite side.

Due to this arrangement, an element 2a (or 2b) is located longitudinally between two elements 2b (or 2a) being separated from them by a distance substantially equal to the thickness of a protective element. Between two neighboring elements 2a and 2b is arranged a spacer element of small width 8 which can be constituted by a section of element 2, as can be seen in FIG. 2, or by a simple end of tube.

The various elements 2a, 2b and 8 are interconnected by cables 7 passing through a hole 6 of the elements.

It will be noted that these cables 6 are only connecting cables and are practically not subjected to any load when using the strap.

In the variant of FIG. 5, each row of elements comprises three elements connected to each other with play by rivets 3, the elements having their openings 5 turned alternately towards one of the faces of the strap and towards the opposite face.

In the embodiment of Figures 6 to 8, each element 2 has holes 4a separated by a bridge 4b and in each of which one of the cables 1 passes with a slight clearance. The elements 2 are interconnected by cables 6 on which are arranged and crimped rings 9 separating the elements 2 adjacent to each other. The longitudinal edges of the elements 2 are rounded, as seen in Figure 8.
