Abstract

A helmet for protecting a head according to this invention has a hard shell generally symmetrical to a longitudinal plane and having a rear edge normally juxtaposed with the nape of the neck of the wearer and a pair of front temple regions flanking the plane and normally juxtaposed with the temples of the wearer, a rear center strap having two ends and lying generally on the plane and a pair of similar side straps generally symmetrically flanking the plane and each having a rear end fixed to the other end of the center strap and a front end secured to the helmet at the respective temple region. The one end of the center strap is adjustably secured to the shell at the rear edge therefor generally on the plane. Respective fittings are slidable on the side straps between the ends thereof and a chin strap extends between the fittings and normally passes under the chin of the wearer.

Description

The invention relates to a protective helmet u. a. for work or sport, with a fork chin strap, which consists of two fork straps connected on both sides of the helmet, each in the area of the helmet rim, approximately in the center of the helmet on the one hand and around the temple area on the other, and a chin strap that connects both fork straps and to each fork strap by means of a length the fork belt movable fitting is connected, which has a plurality of mutually inclined slots, through which the fork belt connected in one piece on the fitting passes and in which the fork belt is jammed under tension exerted by the chin strap on the fitting.

Protective helmets of this type are known from the documents US-A-4 044 400, US-A-2 846 683 and DE-GM-83 06 006 and offer the possibility of holding the protective helmet on the head without slipping even when there are changing forces, if the fork chin straps are correctly adjusted, i.e. the connection between the fork straps and the chin strap causing the fitting is shifted along each fork strap so that the force distribution between the chin strap and the fork strap parts on both sides of the fitting results in an even load on both fork strap parts. In the unloaded state, the Slightly move the fittings along the fork straps running through them in order to find the most favorable position for the fittings, but under load the fittings jam on their respective fork straps so that the optimum setting once achieved is actually retained. - With the described adjustment of the fittings on the fork belts, the total length of each fork belt between its neck and temple-side helmet attachment points remains unchanged. In order to be able to adjust this overall length individually, in the known protective helmets both fork straps are detachably connected to the protective helmet at the temple end so that they enable multiple fastenings with different overall strap lengths, for example several holes in a row in the longitudinal direction of the belt and optionally with one of these holes can be attached to the safety helmet. This has proven itself, but is cumbersome, because the length of both fork belts must be adjusted separately.

The invention has for its object to provide a protective helmet of the type mentioned in such a way that both fork straps can be easily and simply adjusted together and simultaneously with regard to their total length effective between the neck and temple-side helmet attachment points.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the two fork belts are connected to one another and together with a central belt at the end of their neck-side belt parts facing away from the respective fitting, which is essentially in the apex plane of the helmet runs and is connected to the helmet in an adjustable length.

In the protective helmet according to the invention, the length of the fork straps between their temple-side helmet connection on the one hand and the common connection on the center belt remains unchanged, but their overall effective length, which is decisive for the correct setting of the fork chin straps, between the temple and neck-side helmet connections can be adjusted in a simple manner by adjusting the center belt and can be changed together or simultaneously for both fork belts. The length of the middle strap is just as easy to adjust as the fittings can be moved along the fork straps, for example even with a protective helmet on, which greatly simplifies, simplifies and accelerates the individual adjustment of the fork chin straps to the helmet wearer.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the fork belts are integrally connected at the ends of the neck-side belt parts which are connected to one another and to the central belt. A particularly expedient embodiment in this respect is characterized in that the two neck-side belt parts on the central belt are placed one above the other in a fold running transversely to the central belt, including an angle, and are sewn to one another and to the central belt. The advantage of this arrangement is above all that both fork belts are only formed by a single continuous belt piece, the angle at which the two fork belts converge on the central belt, chosen as desired and can be easily adapted to the respective helmet type and training. At the same time, a reliable connection of both fork belts to the middle belt is obtained, which can withstand any load.

The length-adjustable connection of the center belt to the helmet can be achieved in various ways. The center strap can have several consecutive holes in its longitudinal direction and, depending on the desired length, can optionally be buttoned onto one of these holes on the helmet. A better and therefore preferred embodiment within the scope of the invention, however, is characterized in that for the connection of the central belt to the helmet, three slots are provided which run parallel to one another and transversely to the apex plane and which are passed through one after the other by the central belt to form a loop which moves under tension automatically tighten the center belt in the slots. Such a connection enables the length of the center belt to be continuously adjusted and does not require any further fastening parts on the helmet for connecting the center belt. Altogether, therefore, a connection option for the center strap that is only slightly bulky across the helmet shell, that is to say in the direction of its thickness, is created. Of course, the length of the slots is only equal to the width of the central belt, so that the central belt cannot slip in the slots transverse to its longitudinal direction.

Both fork straps generally have the same length from the middle strap connection to the temple-side helmet connection and are not adjustable to the helmet with regard to this length in the temple area connected. However, if for one reason or another an adjustment of the fork belt length between the temple-side helmet attachment points and the fork strap connection on the center strap is desired or required, this can easily be taken into account by the fact that the fork straps in the temple area are connected to the helmet with adjustable length, for which purpose in turn, the helmet has three slots for each fork belt which are transverse to one another and to the longitudinal direction of the belt and which the fork belt has successively passed through to form a loop which automatically tightens in the slots under tension on the fork belt. As a result, the fork straps are attached to the helmet with their end on the side of the temple in the same way, continuously adjustable in length, as the center strap.

The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing; show it:
Fig. 1
a protective helmet according to the invention in an oblique view,
Fig. 2
2 shows a view of the rear part of the protective helmet according to FIG. 1, but only partially,

The protective helmet shown in the drawing is specially designed for cyclists and has a three-part helmet shell, consisting of two side parts 2 opposite each other on the apex level 1-1 of the helmet and a central part 3 arching the side parts 2 along the apex. Between the central part 3 and the side parts 2 each have free joints 4 which separate the middle part 3 and the side parts 2 from each other over the entire length of the middle part 3 and thereby enable the middle part 3 which is elastically bendable in the apex plane 1-1 in the sense of a change in its curvature in deform the apex. This means elastic deformations of the central part 3 in such a way that its two end regions approach or move away from one another, the helmet size decreasing in the first case and increasing in the second case. The side parts 2 and the middle part 3 are connected to one another by a band 5, which runs like a ring in a transverse plane approximately perpendicular to the apex plane 1-1, which goes through the two end regions of the middle part 3 and through the two side parts 2. The band 5 is adjustable with respect to its ring circumference and can be locked in the desired ring circumference. Such helmets are known for example from DE-GM 87 02 777 and therefore do not require any further description here.

The protective helmet, which can of course also be designed in a different way and can be used for other purposes, is equipped with fork chin straps, the two on both sides of the protective helmet, each in the area of the helmet rim approximately in the rear helmet center at 6 on the one hand and approximately in the temple area at 7 on the other connected fork straps 8, 8 ', of which in Fig. 1 only one, namely the front in oblique view, is shown in full. For fork chin strapping further includes a chin strap 9 which connects both fork straps 8, 8 'and is connected to each fork belt 8, 8' by means of a fitting 10 which can be displaced along the fork belt. This fitting 10 consists of a fitting plate with three slots 11 which are inclined with their longitudinal direction so that the fork belt 8, 8 'running through all three slots 11 of the fitting 10' with its two neck or temple-side belt parts for each fork chin strap or the respective type of protective helmet includes the most favorable angle 12, usually an essentially right angle. The chin strap 9 is hung with a loop 9 'in the middle slot of each fitting 10, but can also be riveted directly to the fitting or connected in some other way. The chin strap 9 can have a chin pad 12 and a plug lock 13, the two lock parts of which are shown open in the drawing, and which enables the chin strap 9 to be closed or opened in a simple manner. Protective helmets with fork chin straps of this type are known from DE-GM 83 06 006 and therefore do not require any further description here either.

It is essential for the invention that the two fork belts 8, 8 'are connected to each other and together with a central belt 14 at the end of their neck-side belt parts facing away from the respective fitting 10, which runs essentially in the apex plane 1-1 of the helmet and adjustable in length is connected to the helmet. In detail, the fork belts 8, 8 'are connected to one another at the ends of the neck-side belt parts which are connected to one another and to the center belt 14, the two neck-side belt parts on the center belt 14 being folded over and including an angle 16 in a fold 15 running transversely to the center belt 14 are connected to each other and to the central belt 14 by seams 17. Here, too, the angle 16 between the neck-side belt parts meeting on the central belt 14 can be optimally adapted to the respective requirements of the protective helmet, its type and size.

To connect the center belt 14, three slots 18 running parallel to one another and transversely to the apex plane are provided on the helmet in its apex plane 1-1 above one another. These slots 18 are traversed successively by the central belt 14 to form a loop 19, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 1. The loop 19 has the result that the central belt 14 is automatically jammed in the slots 18 under tension, that is, the set length of the central belt 14 between its connection to the fork belt 8, 8 'on the one hand and the helmet on the other hand can not change. In addition, both fork straps 8, 8 'each have the same length from the center belt connection to the temple-side helmet connection 7. In the temple area, they are connected to the helmet in an unadjustable manner with respect to this length, for which purpose they are held by holes 7 'or eyelets on suitable fastening pins which are provided on the inside of the helmet shell 3.

Claims (6)

  1. Protective helmet, inter alia for work or sport, having a yoke chin strap system, which consists of two yoke straps (8,8') connected to both sides of the helmet, each being connected in the region of the helmet edge approximately in the centre rear of the helmet on the one hand, and approximately in the temple region on the other hand, and of a chin strap (9), which joins the two yoke straps (8, 8') and is attached to each yoke strap by means of a clasp (10), which is displaceable along the yoke strap and which has a plurality of slots (11) inclined relative to one another, which are penetrated by the yoke strap (8, 8') connected on the clasp (10) in one piece and in which the yoke strap locks under the tension exerted on the clasp (10) by the chin strap (9), characterised in that the two yoke straps (8, 8') are joined together and in common with a central strap (14) at the end of their neck-side strap parts remote from the respective clasp (10), and in that only the central strap (14) extending substantially in the vertical plane (1-1) of the helmet is connected to the helmet in a longitudinally adjustable manner.
  2. Protective helmet according to claim 1, characterised in that the yoke straps (8, 8') are connected in one piece at the ends of the neck-side strap parts which are joined together and to the central strap (14).
  3. Protective helmet according to claim 2, characterised in that the two neck-side strap parts are laid one over another at the central strap (14) in a fold (15) extending transverse to the central strap, so as to include an angle (16), and are sewn together and to the central strap (14).
  4. Protective helmet according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that in order to join the central strap (14) to the helmet, three slots (18) are provided, extending parallel to one another and transverse to the vertical plane (1-1), which are penetrated one after another by the central strap (14), so as to form a loop (19), which pulls tight automatically in the slots (18) when the central strap (14) is subjected to tension.
  5. Protective helmet according to one of claims to 4, characterised in that the two yoke straps (8, 8') have the same length from the connection with the central strap to the temple-side helmet connection (7) and are attached to the helmet in the temple region in such a manner that this length is not adjustable.
  6. Protective helmet according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the yoke straps (8, 8') are connected in a longitudinally adjustable manner to the helmet in the temple region, to which end the helmet has for each yoke strap (8, 8') three slots extending transverse to one another and to the strap longitudinal direction, which are penetrated one after another by the yoke strap so as to form a loop, which pulls tight automatically in the slots when the yoke strap is subjected to tension.
