Claims (7)

1. Method of two-stage crushing of brittle material for grinding, in which
a) first of all the material for grinding undergoes material bed crushing in the roller gap of a rolver mill (1),

c) the material discharged from the second mill (2) is subjected to separating and of the quantity of tailings obtained in this operation one branch stream is delivered to the roller mill (1) and a further branch stream to the mill (2), characterised by the following features:
d) the quantity of fresh material delivered to the roller mill (1) is regulated as a function of the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation in such a way that the sum of the quantity of fresh material and the quantity of tailings for the second mill remains constant;
e) the division of the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation into the branch streams which are delivered to the roller mill (1) and the second mill (2) is carried out as a function of the drive power taken up by the roller mill (1) in such a way that the drive power taken up by the roller mill (1) remains constant.
2. Method as claimed in Claim 1 using a roller mill (1) with one drive motor (15, 16) for each of the two rollers (13, 14), characterised in that the power taken up by the two drive motors (15,16) is measured individually and in each case the higher of the two measured power values is used to control the division of the quantity of tailings.
3. Method as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the filling level of the second mill (2) is monitored and if a maximum value is exceeded the control of the quantity of fresh material as a function of the quantity of tailings is interrupted until the filling level of the second mill has returned to normal.
4. Method as claimed in Claim 1, cahracterised in that the roller mill (1) is driven at a constant speed.
5. Apparatus for the two-stage crushing of brittle material for grinding, containing
a) a roller mill (1),
b) a second mill (2) connected after the roller mill (1),
c) a sifter (3) for sifting the material discharged from the second mill (2),
d) an arrangement (5, 6) for dividing the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation into one branch stream delivered to the roller mill (1) and one branch stream delivered to the second mill (2), characterised by the following further parts:
e) a first control circuit with a measuring arrangement (4) to determine the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation and a regulator (22) which regulates the quantity of fresh material delivered to the roller mill (1) as a function of the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation in such a way that the sum of the quantity of fresh material and the quantity of tailings remains constant,
f) a second control circuit containing a measuring arrangement (19, 20) which determines the drive power taken up by the roller mill (1) and controls the arrangement (5, 6) for dividing up the quantity of tailings obtained in the separating operation in such a way that the drive power taken up by the roller mill (1) remains constant.
6. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 5, containing a roller mill (1) with one drive motor (15, 16) for each of the two rollers (13, 14) characterised in that the second control circuit contains measuring arrangements (19, 20) which determine separately the power taken up by each of the two drive motors (15, 16) in order to select the higher of the two power values in each case.
7. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 5, characterised by
a) an arrangement (25) for monitoring the filling level of the second mill (2),
b) and a switching element (24) which when a maximum value for the filling level of the second mill (2) is exceeded interrupts the regulation of the quantity of fresh material carried out as a function of the total quantity of tailings until the filling level in the second mill has returned to normal.
