Description

  • The invention relates to an air-cooled multi-cylinder internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such an internal combustion engine is known from DE-AS 1 205 772. The cooling air flowing in across the cylinders flows along the broad side of the transverse ribs and is deflected on the rear cooling air outflow side of the cylinders by columns which are designed to be streamlined. In addition, baffles are attached to the pillars, the type of fastening of which is not specified. Such baffles are usually screwed on and cause undesirable noise emissions.
  • From US-A-2 424 416 an air guide device is known which consists of a front plate, a rear plate and a multi-part air duct housing. Brackets are attached to the rear plate in order to direct the outflowing air to the outflow openings located centrally to the cylinders. The large number of parts makes the air guiding device expensive to manufacture.
  • The object of the invention is to provide an air guiding device which can be produced and assembled at low cost and does not constitute an additional source of noise.
  • An air guiding device according to the features of characterizing the part of claim 1 is used to achieve this object.
  • In the area between the cylinders, the deflecting part has bends which are directed toward them and which direct the air to the air outlet openings in the area of the central planes of the cylinders and also contribute to increasing the dimensional stability. The deflection part is screwed to either the crankcase or the cylinders. It can in the latter Trap can also be used as a knocking bridge by forwarding the knocking noises of all cylinders connected to it to a knock sensor screwed to it in the center. If the deflecting part is made of a material that has the same coefficient of thermal expansion as the crankcase, it follows its longitudinal expansion when the temperature changes, so that the deflecting part can be rigidly screwed to the cylinders fastened in the crankcase. Otherwise, a compensating screw connection can also be selected, which enables different lengths of the deflection part and crankcase.

  • According to FIGS. 1 and 2, three individually cast cylinders 2, 3, 4 are arranged in a row next to one another in a crankcase 1 of an internal combustion engine and together with the cylinder heads 6 with the crankcase 1 placed on the cylinders 2, 3, 4 by means of expansion screws 5 screwed. The cylinders 2, 3, 4 are provided all around with ribs 7 extending transversely to their longitudinal axis, between which cooling air is blown through. Arranged on the cooling air outflow side of the cylinders is a deflecting part 8 covering all cylinders, which is cast in one piece from light metal and is attached to the crankcase at its three fastening eyes 9 located centrally to the cylinders 2, 3, 4 and screwed to it. To increase the rigidity, the deflection part 8 is double-walled. The mounting eyes 9 are centered on the air outlet openings 10, which are arranged in the area of the center planes 2 ', 3', 4 'of the cylinders, extend radially to the cylinders and extend over their entire height. In the area between the cylinders 2, 3 and 3, 4, the deflecting part has V-shaped bends 11 pointing towards the cylinders 2, 3, 4, at which the cooling air flowing between the cylinders is deflected by 90 ° and led to the air outlet openings 10 becomes.
  • 3, 4 and 5, the deflecting part 12 differs from the deflecting part 9 in that it has radially extending eyes 13 with which it is placed on corresponding eyes 14 of the cylinders 2, 3, 4 and screwed to them.
  • This deflecting part 12 also serves as a knocking bridge in addition to the air guidance, in that it forwards the noise coming from the cylinders caused by knocking combustion to a knocking sensor 15 which is screwed onto the deflecting part 12 approximately in the middle of its longitudinal extent.

Claims (7)

1. An air-cooled multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine, of which the cylinders, arranged in a row and clamped between the associated cylinder heads and the crankcase housing, are cast individually and are provided with transversely extending ribs for cooling from the outside, cooling air flowing through the said ribs in the transverse direction of the cylinders, and an air-guide device being provided for guiding the cooling air, characterized in that the air-guide device is constructed as an integral deflecting member (8, 12) covering all the cylinders (2, 3, 4) on their cooling-air downstream side, the deflecting member (8, 12) being provided with constrictions (11) directed towards the cylinders (2, 3, 4) in the region between the said cylinders (2, 3, 4) and with air-outlet openings (10) in the region of the median planes (2′, 3′, 4′) of the cylinders (2, 3, 4), and the deflecting member (8, 12) being made double-walled.
2. An internal combustion engine according to Claim 1, characterized in that the deflecting member (8) is mounted on the crankcase housing (1) and is screwed thereto,
3. An internal combustion engine according to Claim 2, characterized in that the deflecting member (8) is provided in the region of the median planes (2′, 3′, 4′) of the cylinders (2, 3, 4) with fastening lugs (9) extending in the longitudinal direction thereof.
4. An internal combustion engine according to Claim 1, characterized in that the deflecting member (12) is mounted on the cylinders (2, 3, 4) and is screwed thereto.
5. An internal combustion engine according to Claim 4, characterized in that radially projecting lugs (14), to which the deflecting member (12) is screwed, are integrally cast on all the cylinders (2, 3, 4) in the region of the median planes (2′, 3′, 4′) thereof.
6. An internal combustion engine according to Claim 5, characterized in that a knocking sensor (15) is mounted on the deflecting member (12) substantially centrally to the longitudinal direction thereof and is screwed thereto.
7. An internal combustion engine according to any one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the deflecting member (8, 12) is cast from light metal or is made of plastics material.
