Description

The invention relates to a material for packaging a moisture-sensitive product and to a packaging comprising such a material.

More specifically, the invention relates to materials in the general form of sheets, more particularly intended for the packaging of products such as cheeses. The function of such packaging is to protect the packaged product from the outside ambient atmosphere, as well as from untimely contacts. Such packaging also has the function of having a selective permeability to gas and to humidity, taking into account the modifications that the packaged product may undergo, likely to go as far as altering the product, in particular its taste.

Finally, and as mentioned below, the function of such packaging is to regulate the humidity and / or exudate from the packaged product.

Packages are already known with the stated objective of meeting these requirements. Thus, in a first known embodiment (French Patent No. 1,433,389), a package of meat comprises a base formed from a single sheet of cellulosic fibers, in particular paper, and a waterproof agent placed on the external face of the sheet of cellulosic fibers or impregnating it at least partially. The waterproof agent may be a ureaformol resin. According to this patent, such a package is resistant to humidity, while at least partially allowing aqueous liquids to pass through the fibers. However, such packaging does not fulfill the function of reciprocal gas exchanges between the packaged product and the external ambient atmosphere, due to the presence of the impermeable agent. Neither does such packaging fulfill the function of absorbing moisture from the packaged product, except to a very limited extent.

In a second embodiment (English Patent No. 696,373), the package comprises a layer of moisture absorbing fibers, in particular paper, and a moisture resistant film, provided with small perforations (synthetic resin). Such packaging can be placed on meat to be wrapped, one way or the other. However, the packaging described in this patent is of application limited to meat, and undoubtedly of limited effectiveness.

In a third embodiment (French Patent No. 875,277), there is provided a package comprising a metal sheet or strip coated with a thin thermoplastic sheet, capable of absorbing moisture or a liquid while swelling. A packaging thus produced is waterproof but essentially makes it possible to produce a container of the “tin can” type.

The document FR-A 875 277 relates to a method and a device for the production of metal sheets or strips coated with a sheet of thin material, for packaging or similar applications. In this process, a thin sheet of artificial thermoplastic material is used which is applied to the sheet or strip of metal hot and under pressure without using a bonding agent.

The object of the invention is to provide a material intended for producing packaging for products sensitive to humidity such as cheeses, capable of controlling the humidity of the atmosphere surrounding the product thus packaged.

To this end, the invention provides a material in the general form of a sheet, more especially intended for packaging a food product of the cheese type, sensitive to humidity, consisting of at least one layer of a support sheet and at least one water-repellent material, intimately associated with the support sheet by association means, characterized in that the material constituting the support sheet is chosen from the group formed by paper, cellulose films, regenerated pure cellulose , polymers, in particular polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester and by the fact that the water-retaining material is constituted by a water-retaining resin chosen from the group formed by polyacrylonitriles or copolymers based on acrylonitrile, treated with aqueous alkaline solutions of mono or polyfunctional aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohols with greater or equal melting point at 110 ° C.

The moisture and / or exudate from the packaged product is absorbed and retained by the water-retaining material, without affecting the physical qualities of the support sheet, in particular its behavior, and without affecting the packaged product itself. In addition, due to its constitution, the material according to the invention is capable of a certain desorption, the absorption and desorption being a function of the humidity and the temperature prevailing inside the packaging and of that prevailing in the external ambient atmosphere.

The invention can be the subject of different variants: the support sheet can be in a single layer or in several layers; impervious to gas and / or water vapor, or, on the contrary, permeable. The water-retaining material can be incorporated or superimposed on the support sheet. The material thus produced may comprise one or more layers.

The other characteristics of the invention will result from the description which follows with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • - Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 are four schematic cross-sectional views illustrating four embodiments of the material according to the invention.
  • - Figure 5 is a schematic perspective view of a packaging made from the material.

The invention relates to a material intended for the packaging of a product and to a packaging comprising such a material, intended for this product.

The product per se, for which the packaging is intended, is not directly the subject of the invention. It is preferably a product sensitive to humidity, the packaging having the function of regulating the humidity and / or the exudate coming from this product, once packaged. Such a product can be a food product, such as cheese.

The material according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises in combination at least one support sheet 1 and at least one water-retaining material 2 intimately associated with the support sheet by association means 3.

Such a material allows the realization of a packaging for the product mentioned above and its function is to regulate the humidity and / or the exudate coming from the product.

The support sheet 1 of the material according to the invention essentially has the function of ensuring a physical hold of the material, as well as of constituting a support for the water-retaining material.

The material according to the invention can be the subject of several variant embodiments. These alternative embodiments arise from the alternative embodiments of the support sheet 1, the water-retaining material 2, the association means 3, as well as from the very constitution of the material. These different variants in the production of the constituent means of the material can be combined with one another.

The support sheet 1 is generally a flat element; in the form of a plate, tablecloth, strip or any other; flexible or rigid; capable of being shaped to constitute packaging; having, in any case, a certain mechanical strength. The support sheet 1 comprises a single layer or, on the contrary, several layers. It is homogeneous or heterogeneous. It is impermeable to gas and / or water vapor or, on the contrary, permeable to gas and / or water vapor. It is continuous or, on the contrary, discontinuous. It is provided with perforations or microperforations 4 with or without removal of materials or, on the contrary, without such perforations.

The material constituting the support sheet 1 is chosen from the group formed by paper, cellulosic films, regenerated pure cellulose, polymers, in particular, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester.

In particular, the material constituting the support sheet is a polymer comprising micropores or having a certain permeability to water vapor.

According to the invention, the term sheet carrier 1 pervious to gas and / or water vapor, a backing sheet having an oxygen permeability greater than 18 cm 3 / m 2 '24 hours and at vapor water greater than 8680.5 Ilg / m 2. s / 750 g / m 2 . 24 hours). The expression "gas-tight and / or water-vapor-tight" support sheet is understood to mean a support sheet having a permeability at values lower than those mentioned above.

According to another possible variant of the invention, the support sheet 1 is itself associated with at least one other additional sheet, in particular an aluminum sheet.

The water-retaining material 2 consists of a water-retaining resin chosen from the group formed by polyacrylonitriles or copolymers based on acrylonitriles, treated with aqueous alkaline solutions of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohols, mono or polyfunctional, of higher melting point or equal to 110 ° C.

Ce coefficient multiplicateur du poids de la résine hydrorétentrice peut, notamment, atteindre ou dépasser 400.More generally, such a water-retaining resin has the property of having a final weight after absorption of water equal to a large number of times the initial weight before absorption of water. This coefficient multiplying the weight of the water-retaining resin can, in particular, reach or exceed 400.

The water-retaining material is generally in solid, homogeneous or heterogeneous form, depending on the composition.

The water-retaining material 2 also has the property of being able to be intimately and permanently associated with the support sheet so as to form a whole with the latter. In particular, the water-retaining material 2 remains associated with the support sheet 1, even after the absorption of water.

The water-retaining material 2 is associated with the support sheet 1 by being either incorporated therein, or superimposed thereon. In the latter case, the water-retaining material can be placed on one of the faces or on both sides of the support sheet 1.

The water-retaining material 2 is distributed generally continuously or, on the contrary, discontinuously, in particular by points, by lines, etc.

The amount of water-repellent material 2 is adapted to the amount of water to be absorbed and this according to the product to be packaged, according to knowledge well known to the skilled person.

The means of association 3 of the water-retaining material 2 with the support sheet 1 have the function of ensuring cohesion of the material, even after the water-retentive material has absorbed a quantity of water which can be very large.

The association means 3 can also be the subject of several alternative embodiments. They can be formed by the water-retaining material itself having a certain tackiness or can be constituted by an additional material, such as an adjuvant.

The implementation of these association means is described later with reference to the method of manufacturing the material according to the invention.

As already mentioned previously, the different variants of the support sheet 1, of the water-retaining material 2 and of the association means 3 can be combined with one another. In addition, the material according to the invention may comprise the combination of several of the constituent means described above, for example several materials constituting the support sheet and / or several water-retaining materials and / or several means of association.

In its simplest variant, the material thus produced is in the form of a single layer. However, this layer may itself include one or more support sheets and / or one or more water-retaining materials.

In addition, and as a variant, the material may comprise several elementary layers thus defined, these layers being associated intimately with one another or not.
  • FIG. 1 represents an elementary embodiment of the invention consisting of a support sheet 1, comprising perforations 4, intimately associated with a water-retaining material 2 by means of association 3.

  • FIG. 4 represents a fourth variant of the invention made up of the superposition of two elementary layers of material according to FIG. 1, themselves intimately associated by association means 3.

Examples given below make it possible to illustrate various possible, but not limiting, embodiments of such a material.

In a process for manufacturing a material as it has just been defined, one starts from a support sheet 1 and from a water-retaining material 2, as defined above and is closely associated therewith. 'with each other, thanks to the means of association 3. These means of association 3 mainly use an adhesive power, either of the water-repellent material, or, as already indicated, additional materials. This material having this tackiness is either sprayed or coated on the support sheet and / or the water-retaining material or else intimately mixed with the water-retaining material 2, in particular with a varnish or an ink.

The spraying or coating is carried out continuously or even locally, in particular by points or by lines.

The invention also relates to a packaging of a moisture-sensitive product, as already indicated, using the material described above. Such packaging (Figure 5) may include at least one layer of such a material arranged to form a package by means of at least one fold 7 and / or a curvature. This layer has characteristics such that it can be welded and / or glued on itself, so as to form a package which can be hermetic at the place of its closure.

In another possible variant, the packaging has a first part made of thermoformed synthetic material and sealed with a second material, one of the two or both as defined above.

As already mentioned, the invention is more particularly intended for a product sensitive to humidity and in particular to a food product. Tests have made it possible to show that, in the case of a product such as soft cheese, the use of the material according to the invention makes it possible to extend the life of the cheese while improving its taste properties.

Without this variant being limiting, the material which has just been described may be such that the support sheet 1 is a paper, the water-repellent material 2 is one of the polymers selected, the support sheet 1 and the water-retaining material 2 being associated as follows: the inner face of the paper is coated with water-repellent powder, itself bonded discontinuously, namely by lines, with a cellulose derivative.

We will now describe several nonlimiting examples of the production of materials according to the invention.

Exemple 1:Example 1:

A material was produced according to the invention having the following characteristics: the support sheet is a paper of 40 g per m 2 and 40 micrometers thick. The water-repellent material is a polyacrylonitryl resin manufactured by the company NORSOLOR under the brand AQUAKEEP 10 SH. This polyacrylonitryl resin and this paper were combined with one another by spraying the resin onto the paper, in amounts which can vary from 3 to 30 g of resin per m 2 of paper and bonding using a sticky adjuvant such as 'a cellulose derivative. Several cellulose derivatives have been used: ethyl, hydroxyethyl cellulose.

The material thus produced was applied to soft cheeses, as well as pressed cheeses. It allowed a recovery of 30% in water compared to the initial weight of the packaging and the maintenance of a balance in terms of the open water (AW) activity of the cheese.

This polyacrylonitrile resin is sprayed onto the polyvinyl chloride and bonded to it using an adjuvant, namely an acrylic derivative fixing the polyacrylonitrile resin. The use of such a material has made it possible to store 20% of the initial water weight of the material. The application was carried out for packaging fragile mechanical parts with water.
