- the inlet duct had a diameter of 30mm
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the separation of the two phases of a heterogeneous liquid.
In many industrial embodiments, it is necessary to separate two immiscible fluids of different densities, one of the two being dispersed in the other in the form of globules which can be very small.
- A first quality is the separation efficiency. The purification rate of the water discharged by the device must be maximum. This efficiency is usually measured via the cut-off diameter of the device, that is to say the diameter of the globules beyond which all the petroleum globules are extracted from the water flow. Depending on the values of this cut-off diameter, it will be necessary to carry out the purification in one or two or even three stages in as many separators of different types connected in series.
A second quality is the compactness: Given the very high cost of the "on-board ton" on the platform, operators are looking for devices whose weight and volume are as low as possible. The compactness of a device is mainly characterized by the residence time of the mixture in the device: the lower it is, the more the volume and the weight are reduced.
A third quality is flexibility in flow: During operation, the water flows to be treated can undergo variations from -50% to -100% of the nominal flow, for example, over times of a few minutes. It is therefore important that the separators can process these fluctuating flow rates without loss of oil removal efficiency. In addition, users are looking for devices with a maximum unit flow so that they can carry out the processing with a minimum number of devices.
The fourth quality is a small energy consumption: Energy consumption is not a crucial problem on an operating platform, but the available pressures are often limited to a few bars. It can nevertheless be considered that a device which consumes energy does so in the form of a pressure drop with the appearance of zones of intense hydraulic shear which will split the drops of oil into droplets so small that they will become inseparable. It can therefore be roughly estimated that the lower the pressure drop necessary to ensure the separation, the better the efficiency of the device.
More or less similar qualities are desirable for other operations such as the dehydration of crude oil and degassing of liquids, and, more generally in all industrial operations involving either hydrocyclones or centrifuges.
In known hydrocyclones used for oil removal, an intense acceleration field is created by rotating the fluid which tangentially enters a separation chamber with a fixed wall to form a flow of the free vortex type. Under the effect of centrifugal force, the oil is concentrated on an axial bar which is drawn off by a specific outlet. This force has a maximum intensity at the interface between this bar and the surrounding liquid.
In centrifuges which have been developed for the dehydration of crude oil, the fluid is rotated through the walls of the separation chamber which is driven by an external power source (motor). These devices establish a mass rotation flow in which the speed of rotation and the centrifugal force are very low in the vicinity of the axis. Under these conditions it is impossible to concentrate the light phase sufficiently to be able to extract it easily from the heavy phase. On the contrary in a flow of the free Vortex type, the very high rotational speeds in the vicinity of the axis allow the formation of a stable bar of light phase.
No. 2,478,489 and its correspondent in the United States of America No. 4,443,331 describe a separator used in the pulp industry. In this device, the walls of the separation chamber are rotated and a free vortex type flow is created in its internal volume, the radius of the outlet opening of the majority liquid being smaller than that of the opening d 'Entrance. Input acceleration guides drive the input liquid in rotation while moving it radially from the axis of the separator to the radius of the inlet opening. Their downstream part constitutes injection vanes which impose a constant radius displacement on the inlet liquid and which are inclined on the axis so as to give this liquid, when it leaves these vanes to enter the separation chamber. , an absolute circumferential speed in the same direction and greater than that of the rotating side wall of this chamber. The friction of this liquid on this wall then creates, in the vicinity of the latter, a radial gradient of the circumferential speed of the liquid. This gradient generates agitation. This French patent indicates that, in other separators, the "absence of any agitation" has the drawback that the "fibrous constituents" of the inlet liquid "tend to structure very quickly into a coherent network which .... ... prohibits any movement within the fluid ".
Such other separators are centrifuges described in French patent No. 2,091,170 corresponding to American patent No. 3,862,714 (Boadway).
The object of the present invention is to obtain in an easy manner an improved separation efficiency compared to known separators.
It also aims to improve at the same time the compactness, the flexibility in flow and the energy consumption of a separator in particular in the case where it is necessary to separate a dispersed light fluid such as oil or air of a base liquid such as water.
- - this separator having a longitudinal separator axis (8) and comprising an elongated separation chamber (2) which has an upstream end (4), a downstream end (6), and a side wall (10) which is of revolution around from this axis, the radius of this chamber at said upstream end being an entry radius,
- - drive means (12, 14, 16) for rotating this wall around this axis,
- - an inlet conduit (18, 19) for receiving said inlet liquid near the upstream end of this chamber,
- - Preferably entry accelerator guides (20) distributed around said axis and rotating with this wall, each of these guides having an inner edge (22) at a distance from this axis less than said entry radius to receive this outgoing liquid of this inlet conduit, each of these guides extending to an outer edge (24) further from this axis to move this liquid away to a distance from this axis substantially equal to said radius of entry into it at the same time giving an increased circumferential speed before its introduction into said chamber,
- - This chamber further having a coaxial main outlet opening (26) formed at its said downstream end and having an outer radius smaller than said inlet radius so that said main outlet liquid leaves through this opening by creating in this chamber a flow of the free vortex type in which the circumferential speed of the liquid increases from the rotating wall (10) to an axial zone, and so that an increased centrifugal force collects the fluid of higher density towards the wall and the fluid of lower density towards this axial zone,
- - And at least one secondary outlet opening (28) for the outlet of said secondary outlet fluid, in the zone where the centrifugal force gathers this fluid,
- - This separator being characterized in that it further comprises liquid injection channels (30) in said chamber separation (2), these channels being integral in rotation with said rotating wall (10), each having a channel axis coplanar with said separator axis (8), and being distributed around the latter each of these channels having an inlet (32 ) for receiving said inlet liquid at the outlet of said inlet accelerator guides (20) or failing these, from said inlet conduit (18, 19), an outlet (34) located at a distance from said axis substantially equal to said inlet radius, to supply the inlet end (4) of the separation chamber, and a length large enough with respect to its transverse dimensions so that the relative circumferential speed of this inlet liquid with respect to said rotating wall is substantially canceled when this liquid enters this separation chamber, so as to prevent the friction of the liquid on this wall from causing a radial gradient of circumferential speed to appear which would continue against this wall on the length of this chamber, and that this gradient does not create turbulence capable of compensating, in the vicinity of this wall, the separating action of the centrifugal force on the relatively small globules of said added fluid.
The present invention leaves velocity gradients, especially in the vicinity of said axial region of the vortex. However, the inevitable turbulence in this area has reduced drawbacks there because of the very high value that the centrifugal force takes there. On the contrary near the wall where the centrifugal force is relatively weak, it seems important to limit as much as possible the speed gradients, in particular the radial gradient of the circumferential speed.
Of course, the present invention is characterized by the arrangements made and not by the above explanations of operation, which are given only as hypotheses.
- - Said injection channels (30) are cylindrical or prismatic and have a length greater than four times and preferably six times their smallest transverse dimension and they are parallel to said axis (8).
- - Said rotating side wall (10) is cylindrical, said main outlet opening (26) being formed in an outlet diaphragm (36) occupying the downstream end (6) of the separation chamber (2), this opening having a outside radius between 20% and 60% of the radius of this side wall.
- - Said injection channels (30) have their outlets (34) in a circular injection ring, the outer circle of which is in contact with said rotating wall (10), said separation chamber (2) further comprising a warhead entry (38) which is coaxial with this chamber, which has a base coinciding with the inner circle of this crown, and which enters this chamber from this base with circular sections of progressively decreasing radii, the length of this warhead being less than a third of that of this chamber, so as on the one hand to offer to said inlet liquid an annular passage section of progressively increasing area from said injection ring to rapidly and without turbulence decrease its axial speed , and on the other hand to center and stabilize said free vortex. This warhead is for example conical with a half-angle at the top between 10 and 40 degrees and for example worth about 20 degrees.
- - The invention advantageously applies to the case where the separator is designed to receive a said inlet liquid in which said dispersed added fluid has a lower density than that of said base liquid, so that this added fluid forms a bar axial in said separation chamber. In this case, said secondary outlet opening consists of a secondary outlet tube (28) at the downstream end (6) of the separation chamber (2), this tube penetrating coaxially into said separation chamber (2) through said main outlet opening (26), which is an annular opening around this tube. This arrangement of this downstream tube avoids having to provide an axial secondary outlet at the upstream end of the separator where it would be troublesome. Said inlet conduit (18, 19) then comprises a fixed inlet tube (18) coaxial with this chamber, so that the inner edge (22) of said inlet accelerator guides (20) is close to said axis (8 ) and that the rotation of the inlet liquid by these guides do not cause harmful shearing in this liquid capable of breaking said globules of the added fluid and making these globules impossible to separate.
- - Said inlet conduit (18, 19) further comprises, between the outlet of said fixed inlet tube (18) and said inlet accelerator guides (20), a rotating inlet tube (19) integral with these guides, so as to start driving the input liquid in rotation before it meets the inner edges (22) of these guides and thus to reduce said harmful shears.
- - Said fixed coaxial inlet tube (18) is a rigid support tube and externally carries an upstream bearing (39), said rotating cylindrical side wall (10) being provided with an upstream extension (40) which is coaxial and rigid and extends to this bearing to be supported by the latter, a seal (60) being disposed between this upstream rotating extension and this fixed support tube, between the outlet end of this tube, and this bearing, so as to prevent the liquid from reaching this bearing.
- - Said main outlet opening (26) is extended downstream by a divergent (42) to a main outlet chamber (44) of increased annular passage section around said secondary outlet tube (28) so as to reduce the energy consumption of the separator, the side wall (46) of this outlet chamber being constituted by a rigid coaxial downstream extension of said rotating side wall of the separation chamber, this extension externally carrying a downstream bearing (48) which rests on a fixed external support (47) and which cooperates with said upstream bearing (39) to maintain said separation chamber (2), a seal (62) being disposed between this fixed support (47) and this rotating downstream extension (46), between the outlet of this extension and this bearing, so as to prevent the liquid from reaching this bearing.
Using the attached diagrammatic figures, a description will be given below more particularly, by way of nonlimiting example, of how the invention can be implemented. It should be understood that the elements described and shown may, without departing from the scope of the invention, be replaced by other elements ensuring the same technical functions. When the same element is represented in several figures, it is designated by the same reference sign. When a sign was used previously in parentheses, it was also a simple non-limiting example.
La figure 1 représente une vue générale en coupe axiale d'un séparateur selon l'invention.FIG. 1 represents a general view in axial section of a separator according to the invention.
La figure 2 représente une vue en perspective des guides accélérateurs d'entrée et des conduits d'injection, de ce même séparateur avec arrachement partiel de sa paroi latérale.FIG. 2 represents a perspective view of the inlet accelerator guides and of the injection conduits, of this same separator with partial cutaway of its side wall.
The separator described presents the arrangements previously mentioned as advantageous according to the invention.
- - A
separation chamber 2, theside wall 10 of which is cylindrical in revolution around the axis 8 of the separator and extends between two upstream 4 and downstream 6 ends. - - Drive means constituted by a
motor 12 which drives abelt 14 which passes through agroove 16 formed in anupstream extension 40 of thewall 10 to rotate the latter around its axis. - - An inlet pipe consisting of a fixed
rigid tube 18 followed by a rotatingtube 19 secured to thewall 10. This fixed tube externally carries twoball bearings 38 mounted inside the rigidcylindrical extension 40 to constitute the upstream bearing previously mentioned and maintain therotating wall 10. - - Ten trapezoidal input accelerator guides 20 angularly distributed around the axis 8 at the outlet of the
tube 19. The number of these guides in the figure is six to facilitate understanding of the drawing. Each guide has an inclinedinner edge 22 which joins the axis 8 at its end remote from thetube 19, two upstream and downstream radial edges and an axial outer edge at a distance from the axis slightly less than the diameter of thechamber 2. These guides are welded by their upstream radial edges to therotating tube 19.
The secondary outlet opening for the oil is constituted by a fixed
L'ouverture de sortie principale formée dans le diaphragme avait un diamètre de 20mm, le tube de sortie secondaire ayant un diamètre intérieur de 8mm.In a particular case, this involved treating a water flow rate of 1 1 / s charged with a proportion of petroleum oil of between 0.1% and 1%, this oil having a density of approximately 0.85 . The separation chamber then had a length of 500mm and an internal diameter of 60mm. It was rotating at 1800 revolutions / minute. The injection channels had a length of 50mm and a radial transverse dimension of 5mm, their circumferential transverse dimension being approximately 9mm. The main outlet opening formed in the diaphragm had a diameter of 20mm, the secondary outlet tube having an inside diameter of 8mm.
Le conduit d'entrée avait un diamètre de 30mm,The inlet duct had a diameter of 30mm,
