Definitions
- the invention relates to an alkaline cleaner with a content of silicate, phosphate, complexing agent and surfactant and its application to the cleaning of metal surfaces.
- Sheets made of iron materials black plate or tinned iron materials (tin plate) are used, among other things. used for the production of containers such as cans, etc. Such materials are usually provided with a protective oil to protect them from wear and / or corrosion. There may also be lubricants on the sheet to facilitate deformation, which are advantageous for protecting the surfaces but must be removed before the container is used.
- Such protective or lubricant layers are usually removed using cleaners.
- cleaners for example, US Pat. No. 4,382,825 describes an alkaline cleaner for containers drawn and smoothed from black plate, which contains alkali metal silicate, orthosilicate or mixtures thereof, and optionally alkali metal carbonate, alkali metal phosphate, a surfactant such as nonylphenol polyethoxyethanol and oxyethylated secondary alcohols.
- Another example of an alkaline cleaner is described in U.S. Patent 4,349,448. Its subject is a low-foaming, low-foaming cleaner containing alkaline components, ethoxylated alkylphenol and ethoxylated / propoxylated alkylphenol.
- cleaners Despite the existence of cleaners, there is still a need for improved, highly effective low-foaming cleaners, which can also be used in particular on continuously operating conveyor systems. In addition, they should lead to surfaces that are appealing on the outside and - in the form of containers - suitable for packaging food.
- the object of the invention is to provide a cleaner that meets the above requirements.
- it should be suitable for cleaning surfaces made of iron materials or tin-plated iron materials.
- the alkali silicate component of the cleaner according to the invention is preferably an alkali metasilicate, in particular sodium metasilicate.
- alkali silicates such as potassium orthosilicate, can be used.
- the alkali phosphate component is preferably polyphosphate, especially sodium tripolyphosphate. Suitable compounds are also other condensed phosphates, such as sodium or potassium pyrophosphate.
- Alkali metal gluconate in particular sodium gluconate, is preferably used as the complexing agent.
- other complexing agents such as sodium citrate, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or the sodium salt thereof, can also be used.
- the ethoxylated straight-chain alcohol should preferably have 8 to 18 carbon atoms in the alcohol group and 7 to 11 ethylene oxide groups.
- a particularly suitable product is Tergitol 15-S-9 from Union Carbide.
- the chloride derivative of the nonionic surfactant according to component e) is preferably represented by the following formula:
- R is an alkyl group with 8 to 18 C atoms, a phenyl or naphthyl group optionally substituted with 1 or 2 alkyl groups with 8 to 18 C atoms
- R 1 is hydrogen or a methyl or ethyl group.
- n is other alkali silicates, such as potassium orthosilicate, can be used.
- n is an integer between 2 and 100.
- a particularly suitable surfactant of this type is Antarox LF 330 from General Aniline and Film Corp.
- an advantageous development of the invention provides to add a defoamer to the cleaner.
- Defoamers based on hydrocarbons, such as microcrystalline wax, are particularly suitable.
- Another easy-to-use defoamer is Pluronic L-61 from BASF-Wyandotte.
- the cleaner can be in the form of a single dry or aqueous concentrate containing all components or in the form of several concentrates.
- one concentrate contains the components alkali silicate, alkali phosphate and complexing agent, the other the surfactants and, if applicable, additives which adjust the pH. If the concentrate is manufactured dry and with all components, the addition of sodium carbonate, bicarbonate or sesquicarbonate is recommended in order to obtain a free-flowing product.
- the cleaner is preferably used in a concentration of 1 to 30 g / l, in particular 1 to 15 g / 1 (based on components a - e). A concentration of 3.5 to 7.5 g / 1 is particularly favorable.
- the pH of the cleaner used should be 10.5 to 13, preferably 11.5 to 12.5. If necessary, this value can be achieved by appropriate dosage of the concentrate or by pH-regulating additives.
- the cleaner according to the invention is also suitable for cleaning other substrates.
- the cleaner should be used at a temperature of 45 to 80 ° C, preferably 55 to 70 ° C.
- the contact time is 15 seconds to 5 minutes, preferably 30 seconds to 2 minutes. After cleaning, as usual, should be rinsed with water. The known follow-up treatments can then follow.
- the cleaner can contain other common additives, e.g. Have corrosion inhibitors such as amines, borates, nitrates and the like.
- the cleaner is suitable for removing a large number of substances, especially for removing oils and soaps.
- oils can e.g. be sulfurized paraffin oils and chlorinated sulfonates.
- the cleaner is made in the form of two concentrates.
- cleaning solutions are produced by dilution with water, which have the concentrations in g / 1 given in the table below.
- the cleaning solutions are sprayed onto tinplate cans at a pressure of 2.1 to 2.5 bar at the temperatures given in the table for a period of 40 seconds.
- the surfaces of these cans are covered with various types of lubricant residues.
- the cans of Examples 2-9 were with a lubricant from EH Mack & Co., type 628B, those of Examples 10 and 11 with a lubricant from the same company, but types 623A and 544A and those of Examples 12 and 13 with one Lubricant in turn from the same company, type 544A.
- the cans were then rinsed with water and deionized water and then evaluated. The results are shown in the table.

Description
The invention relates to an alkaline cleaner with a content of silicate, phosphate, complexing agent and surfactant and its application to the cleaning of metal surfaces.
Sheets made of iron materials (black plate) or tinned iron materials (tin plate) are used, among other things. used for the production of containers such as cans, etc. Such materials are usually provided with a protective oil to protect them from wear and / or corrosion. There may also be lubricants on the sheet to facilitate deformation, which are advantageous for protecting the surfaces but must be removed before the container is used.
Such protective or lubricant layers are usually removed using cleaners. For example, US Pat. Another example of an alkaline cleaner is described in U.S. Patent 4,349,448. Its subject is a low-foaming, low-foaming cleaner containing alkaline components, ethoxylated alkylphenol and ethoxylated / propoxylated alkylphenol.
Despite the existence of cleaners, there is still a need for improved, highly effective low-foaming cleaners, which can also be used in particular on continuously operating conveyor systems. In addition, they should lead to surfaces that are appealing on the outside and - in the form of containers - suitable for packaging food.
The object of the invention is to provide a cleaner that meets the above requirements. In particular, it should be suitable for cleaning surfaces made of iron materials or tin-plated iron materials.

The object is achieved by formulating the cleaner of the type mentioned in accordance with the invention in such a way that it

The cleaner can be in the form of a single dry or aqueous concentrate containing all components or in the form of several concentrates. In the latter case, for example, one concentrate contains the components alkali silicate, alkali phosphate and complexing agent, the other the surfactants and, if applicable, additives which adjust the pH. If the concentrate is manufactured dry and with all components, the addition of sodium carbonate, bicarbonate or sesquicarbonate is recommended in order to obtain a free-flowing product.
If the cleaning of surfaces made of iron materials or tin-plated iron materials is intended, the cleaner is preferably used in a concentration of 1 to 30 g / l, in particular 1 to 15 g / 1 (based on components a - e). A concentration of 3.5 to 7.5 g / 1 is particularly favorable. The pH of the cleaner used should be 10.5 to 13, preferably 11.5 to 12.5. If necessary, this value can be achieved by appropriate dosage of the concentrate or by pH-regulating additives.
- 1. Pre-cleaning
- 2. Cleaning with the cleaner according to the invention by spraying at 65 ° C for a period of 30 to 60 seconds.
- 3. Rinse with water at room temperature for 15 to 30 seconds.
Although the treatment of iron materials and tinned iron materials or containers made of these materials is particularly emphasized, the cleaner according to the invention is also suitable for cleaning other substrates. The cleaner should be used at a temperature of 45 to 80 ° C, preferably 55 to 70 ° C. The contact time is 15 seconds to 5 minutes, preferably 30 seconds to 2 minutes. After cleaning, as usual, should be rinsed with water. The known follow-up treatments can then follow.
In addition to the components already mentioned, the cleaner can contain other common additives, e.g. Have corrosion inhibitors such as amines, borates, nitrates and the like. The cleaner is suitable for removing a large number of substances, especially for removing oils and soaps. Such oils can e.g. be sulfurized paraffin oils and chlorinated sulfonates.

To prepare 1 l of cleaning solution, 3.74 g of concentrate 1 and 0.524 g of concentrate 2 are diluted with water. The cleaner is sprayed on black tin cans at a temperature of approx. 65 ° C for a period of 1 min. used. Then the cans are rinsed with water and deionized water. A wetting test before and after drying shows that the wetting is flawless and the water film does not break.
From various concentrates, cleaning solutions are produced by dilution with water, which have the concentrations in g / 1 given in the table below. The cleaning solutions are sprayed onto tinplate cans at a pressure of 2.1 to 2.5 bar at the temperatures given in the table for a period of 40 seconds. The surfaces of these cans are covered with various types of lubricant residues. The cans of Examples 2-9 were with a lubricant from EH Mack & Co., type 628B, those of Examples 10 and 11 with a lubricant from the same company, but types 623A and 544A and those of Examples 12 and 13 with one Lubricant in turn from the same company, type 544A.
