Description

The invention relates to a disc brake in particular intended to equip a motor vehicle.

The invention relates in particular to a disc brake with a sliding caliper on a fixed support comprising a first friction element capable of being applied to one face of a brake disc by means of a brake motor through a pusher and a second friction element capable of being applied to the other face of the disc through the sliding stirrup.

Many disc brakes of this type are known, some of which include a device allowing the axial movement of the plunger relative to the brake motor, in particular when this plunger is rotated on itself. A brake of this type is described in French patent N'l 317 919 in which the plunger is formed by the piston of the brake motor and the rotation of which makes it possible to advance or reverse this piston. This patent also shows an automatic adjustment device which functions correctly when the piston is prevented from turning and this during normal operation of the brake. It will be noted that the recoil of the piston can be obtained either by turning the screw after having dismantled the lever which requires additional interventions or else one can act on the piston after having removed the friction elements. Both of these operations have drawbacks which are difficult or impossible to overcome, for example the case of the rear of the brake motor inaccessible, for example when the mechanical control is provided by a wedge, and the impossibility to dismantle the friction elements when the brake disc is worn and has on its outer periphery a flange which opposes the disassembly of the friction elements.

The invention provides a disc brake of simple construction and without the drawbacks mentioned above.

To this end, the invention provides a disc brake with caliper sliding on a fixed support comprising a first friction element capable of being applied to one face of a brake disc by means of a brake motor through '' a plunger and a second friction element capable of being applied to the other face of the disc through the sliding caliper, the rotation of said plunger being capable of displacing the latter axially with respect to the brake motor, characterized in that that the brake comprises an adjustment and retaining member having at one of its ends a fork intended to cooperate with complementary surfaces formed on said plunger and having at the other of its ends an orifice by means of which said member is immobilized, su 'through a removable means, relative to said first friction element.

It appears that thanks to these characteristics, in normal operation of the brake, the adjustment and retaining member prohibits rotation of the pusher, and after dismantling of the removable means the adjustment and retaining member ensures rotation of the pusher thanks to the cooperation of the fork and the complementary surfaces of the pusher.

This device also makes it possible to ensure manual pre-adjustment of the brake and to avoid excessive stroke of the brake motor after replacing the friction elements for example.

  • - La Figure 1 est une vue de dessus avec découpe partielle d'un frein à disque réalisé conformément à l'invention ;
  • - La Figure 2 est une vue en coupe selon la ligne 2-2 du frein de la Figure 1.;
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of nonlimiting example with reference. to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • - Figure 1 is a top view with partial cutout of a disc brake produced in accordance with the invention;
  • - Figure 2 is a sectional view along line 2-2 of the brake of Figure 1 .;
  • - Figure 3 is a partial view along arrow A of Figure 2; and
  • - Figure 4 is a partial sectional view along line 4-4 of Figure 2.

The disc brake shown in Figures 1 comprises a caliper designated as a whole by the reference 10 sliding on a fixed support 12 associated with a fixed part of the vehicle (not shown). The disc brake comprises two friction elements 14 and 16 placed on either side of a brake disc 18. The caliper 10 comprises a brake motor designated as a whole by the reference 20, this brake motor is of the wedge control type, that is to say it comprises a wedge 22 capable of being displaced in the direction of the arrow B under the effect of a jack for example, this displacement in the direction of the arrow B through the rollers 24 urges a sliding part 26 in the direction of arrow C. This sliding part 26 is capable of moving in the direction of arrow C a threaded pusher 28 through a nut 30. The motor brake 20 is further equipped with an automatic adjustment device designated as a whole by the reference 32, this automatic adjustment can be of the type described in French patent 1 317 919 or in French patent application N ° 83 -01438, this automatic adjustment will not be described further. The pusher 28 is capable of urging a first friction element 14 through a reinforcement sole 34 by means of a portion 36 placed on the side of the friction element 14 and having the shape of a hexagonal head. This hexagonal head has two opposite sides 38, forming complementary surfaces, with which cooperates a fork 40 formed at one end 42 of an adjustment and retaining member designated as a whole by the reference 44. This retaining member 44 comprises at its other end 46 an orifice 48 through which passes a screw 50 screwed into the friction element 14 and passing through an oblong opening 52 formed in the sole 34. The diameter of the orifice fice 48 is slightly lower than the diameter of the threaded part of the screw 50. It will also be noted that the oblong opening 52 opens onto the external peripheral edge of the sole 34. The screw 50 forms a removable means. Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3 it can be seen that the friction element 14 is fixed to the sole 34 by means of a second screw 53, likewise the second friction element 16 is fixed to the stirrup 10 at by means of two screws 54. Referring to FIGS. 2 and 4, it can be seen that, in addition to the screws 50, 53 and 54, the friction elements 14 and 16 include pins 56 which penetrate into openings 58 formed either on the sole 34 for the friction element 14 is on the caliper 10 for the friction element 16. These pins 56 by cooperating with the openings 58 make it possible to transfer the braking forces respectively to the sole 34 and to the caliper 10.

The brake which has just been described with the aid of Figures 1 to 4 operates as follows:
  • When a force is applied in the direction of arrow B on the corner 22, the latter also moves in the direction of arrow B and exerts through the rollers 24 a force in the direction of arrow C on the workpiece sliding 26. This part also moves in the direction of arrow C the nut 30 and the pusher 28 through the threaded connection between these last two elements. The pusher 28 by its portion 36 also moves in the direction of arrow C the sole 34 and the friction element 14 which is associated with it. This movement applies the friction element 14 to the disc 18 and by reaction through the sliding caliper 10 applies the friction element 16 to the other face of the disc 18. When the braking is released, the different elements resume their position shown in Figure 1.

When we want to change the friction elements 14 and 16 we proceed as follows:
  • Firstly, the screw 50 is unscrewed and using the adjusting and retaining member 44 used as a flat wrench, the pusher 28 is screwed back inside its nut 30 using the portion 36 forming hexagonal head. This movement of the pusher 28 in the opposite direction of the arrow C allows the pins 56 to be released from the openings 58 formed on the sole 34 this after having deposited the screw 53. The friction element 14 can then be removed from the brake through the opening formed on the stirrup 10 by slightly tilting this friction element 14 to allow its passage. By moving the stirrup in the direction of arrow C and by removing the two screws 54, the friction element 16 can also be removed. After replacing the friction element 16, the screws 54 are tightened again and then the l caliper in the opposite direction of arrow C and we sets up the friction element 14, the screw 53 is screwed in, this friction element 14 on the sole 34. With the aid of the adjustment and retaining member 44, the pusher 28 is unscrewed so as to bring into contact with the sole 34 which makes it possible to make up for the play, the screw 50 is then fixed in the friction element 14 which has the effect on the one hand of keeping the friction element 14 in abutment on the sole 34 as did the screw 53 and on the other hand by means of the fork 40 formed on the member 44 to immobilize the pusher 28 and therefore to avoid any uncontrolled rotation of this pusher. This immobilization is all the more important in the case where the brake motor comprises an automatic adjustment 32 where the operation of this adjustment depends essentially on the non-rotation of the pusher 28.

It will be noted that thanks to the invention, the immobilization of the pusher 36 is very simple and allows manual intervention when this is necessary with an appropriate tool permanently available on the brake. It will also be noted that the screw 50 being trapped in the retaining adjustment member 44 the risks of forgetting to mount the screw 50 are eliminated.
