Abstract

1. Process for forming the bottom of a sachet of flexible synthetic material from a cushion (1) of synthetic material filled with liquid, and for imparting stability to it, in which the filled cushion (1) is disposed on a support beam (6) of width less than the width of the cushion in such manner that at least one of the lower corners (7, 8) of the cushion protrudes beyond the beam, tending downwards, characterised in that a gripper (9, 10) is applied to each side of the beam, the exerted pressure force of which gripper expelsthe liquid contained in the said corner or corners, in that welding is effected along at least one line which will impart stability to the sachet, thus forming at least one lug, each corresponding to a corner (7, 8).

Description

The subject of the present invention is a method for forming the bottom of a flexible plastic bag from a plastic cushion filled with liquid and for giving it stability, process in which the filled cushion is placed on a support beam of width less than the width of the cushion so that at least one of the lower corners of the cushion projects relative to the beam while tending downward (known from patent FR-A-1332651).

The invention also relates to the welding and cutting unit for the implementation of the method.

When producing flexible plastic containers, one of the problems posed is that of the stability of the bag, obtained by a specific conformation of the bottom of the bag to allow it to be placed on a flat surface.

Multiple structures have been proposed and are satisfactory.

Thus, for example, as in French application FR-A-2 314 112 in the name of the applicant, the bottom of the sachet is shaped into a W by folding the film of synthetic material before filling.

In the same way the French patent FR-A-2 097 845 poses to conform the bottom by welding and cutting the angles forming ears after folding the bottom. In these embodiments it is imperative that the bag is empty.

If the W-shaped bottom allows continuous work on a horizontal routing machine, the structure of patent FR-A-2 097 845 cannot be obtained continuously.

In addition, the two proposed embodiments are necessarily made from empty bags, at a given stage of their conformation.

Already known, from patent FR-1 332651, a process for shaping flexible packaging, in which the bottoms are formed by folding the corners inward to form ears which are either glued to one funds, either left free on the other so as to serve as a means of gripping. In both cases, the ears thus formed remain attached to the bag with a precise function.

Likewise, patent DE-1 270 477 describes a device for the welding and cutting of upper folds of paper bags having a heat-sealable inner coating. In this device, the folds are formed independently of the welding and cutting machine.

These devices and methods of the prior art do not in any case satisfy the need which arises for a method for continuously producing bags with a flat bottom, with the same advantages as the W-shaped bottom, while allowing intervention on a filled sachet, in the intermediate state of a cushion, more particularly for a vertical tracking process, leading to a succession of cushions from a continuous roll of film.

In accordance with the invention, this result is obtained with a process for forming the bottom of a flexible plastic bag from a plastic cushion filled with liquid and for giving it stability, a process in which there is available the cushion filled on a support beam with a width less than the width of the cushion so that at least one of the lower corners of the cushion overflows with respect to the beam while tending downward, characterized in that one applies on each side of the beam, a clamp whose exerted pressure force drives out the liquid contained in the above-mentioned corner (s), which is welded along at least one line which will give stability to the bag, thus determining at least one corresponding ear each at a corner.

Advantageously, the cushion will be placed on the support beam in such a way that two lower corners project beyond the beam.

According to another advantageous embodiment, the welding will be carried out continuously. In this embodiment the support beam is constituted by a belt acting as a conveyor belt. The welding is carried out by heating tapes moving at the same speed as the belt.

Although it is particularly suitable for machines with vertical routing, this process can also be transposed to machines with horizontal routing.

The invention will be better understood with the aid of the description below of a non-limiting mode of implementing the method with reference to the drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 illustrates the positioning of the filled cushion on the support beam,
  • FIG. 2 illustrates the pinching, welding and cutting operation,
  • Figure 3 shows a schematic section of the welding and cutting pliers.

Reference will be made in the following to a vertical path, but it should be understood that the method is perfectly adaptable to a horizontal path as for example described in French patent application 80-13039 in the name of the applicant.

The problem posed consists, in the case of vertical routing, in giving stability and shape to the bottom of a cushion (1) filled with liquid (2). The cushion is obtained from a film wound on a mandrel, and has three weld lines (3, 4, 5). This in itself is well known to those skilled in the art.

To conform the bottom, it is provided according to the invention to arrange the cushion (1) on a support beam (6) of any section, for example rectangular or even trapezoidal, the small base being directed upwards.

In the case of a vertical path, the length of this beam should be simply sufficient to receive a sachet. For a horizontal path, the beam can be longer and serve as a guide and support for the rosary bags during part of their journey.

In the vertical path, this beam will be placed, for example just after the post for cutting the cushions into individual elements from the continuous rod, so as to drop them from a height of a few centimeters on the support beam to mark the corner edges. This station can also be provided in operation during filling, by raising the beam towards the cushion.

C'est ce qui a été schématisé à la figure 1.Indeed, the width of the beam, is chosen so that, when centered there, the filled cushion has two corners (7, 8) projecting relative to the beam and tending downward, by simple gravity. This is shown diagrammatically in Figure 1.

  • exercer une pression sur les coins (7, 8) de manière à chasser le liquide qui y est contenu vers l'intérieur du coussin et appliquer les coins contre les parois latérales de la poutre ;
We will now refer to Figure 2. The cushion being always in the position of Figure 1, we apply on each side of the beam (6) a welding pliers (9, 10) which has a double function:
  • exert pressure on the corners (7, 8) so as to expel the liquid contained therein towards the inside of the cushion and apply the corners against the side walls of the beam;
  • determine a weld line at the highest possible level in relation to the upper plane of the beam.

At this stage, the cushion therefore presents itself with a base having two linear edges connected by two indefinite contours taking a curved configuration when the cushion is placed vertically on a flat surface, the two edges extending by two ears corresponding to the corners (7, 8).

It is possible to leave these ears as they are.

Advantageously, these ears will be cut by blades integrated into the welding tongs and sectioning said ears, just after the welding operation or even during filling.

A complete clamp ensuring all operations therefore includes:
  • a bearing surface (11) for pressing the corner against the beam,
  • a welding member (12),
  • a blade (13) movable in the clamp,

La pince (9') subsiste donc, mais son seul rôle est d'appliquer le coin contre le support.FIG. 3 shows a variant in which the welding head (15) and the blade (16) are integrated into the beam (6 '). The clamp (9 ') therefore remains, but its only role is to apply the wedge against the support.

It will be possible to provide on the beam or the clamp, below the cutting blade, a bearing surface (14) made of material that is less hard than the beam or the clamp to avoid puncturing the corners before welding.

Similarly, to prevent the liquid expelled from the corners (7, 8) from being driven down, it is important that the bearing surface of the clamps (9, 10) is in any case larger than the corners ( 7, 8) so that they are stressed over their entire surface.
