Description

The present invention relates to fusible devices, in particular those which are intended to be mounted on printed circuit boards, for the protection of the electrical and electronic components which equip them, and which are of the disposable type (one way).

The ever-increasing use of these printed circuit boards goes hand in hand with the desire for rapid and secure identification, not only of the printed circuit board, but of the fuse of a card of which the fuse wire has functioned as that protection, by the fusion of the calibrated wire. In addition, and due to their very use on printed circuit boards, fuses must be compact and even of a small volume to allow the mounting, side by side, of several printed circuit boards.

Actuellement, les fusibles utilisés pour des cartes à circuits imprimés sont ceux qui sont représentés, à titre d'exemple, dans les figures 1 et 2.Currently, the fuses used for printed circuit boards are those shown, for example, in Figures 1 and 2.

In the case of FIG. 1, the conductive tracks 1 and 2 provided on the insulating support 3 are welded, the wires 4 and 5 welded respectively on the covers 6 and 7 covering the ends of the tube 8 in which the welded fusible wire is housed by its end to the covers.

This fuse is not only fragile, but it generally comprises an opaque tube 8, so that the melting of the fusible wire is not visible. One could imagine making said tube 8 with a transparent material, but this would only allow it to be searched with a great deal of pain and loss of time.

The same difficulties attach to the so-called cartridge fuse shown in FIG. 2. In this embodiment, the tube 8 with fusible wire mounted between the covers 6 and 7 is housed in a cartridge 9, the bottom 10 of which has a conductive inner wall carrying the wire 5 is to be welded to the conductive track 1, while in the other end of the cartridge 9 is screwed a plug 11 in a thread 12 of a conductive part 13 to which is fixed the wire 4 to be welded to the track 2 support 3.

This device has the drawback of the previous one and, moreover, it is bulky.

US-A-3,437,972 describes a safety device with a single or multi-wire fuse, intended to be plugged in, which comprises:
  • - a body of insulating material,
  • a first pair of pins carried by the base, one end of which is intended to be inserted into a first pair of corresponding sockets connected to a circuit to be protected, and the other end of which is intended for fixing the fuse wire,
  • a second pair of pins constituting a second pair of sockets connected to a signaling circuit, said second pair of pins not being secured to the body,
  • - a cursor capable of being retained in a first position by the fusible wire, with arming of a spring exerting on the cursor a propelling force in the direction of the second pair of pins,
  • guide means provided in the body to guide the movement of the cursor, and
  • - a contact blade associated with the cursor and capable of contacting the second pair of pins, after fusion of the fusible wire.

With such a device after fusion of the fusible wire, the cursor and with it the contact blade move towards the second pair of pins until the contact blade meets the second pair of pins, which activates the signaling circuit .

Such a device has the drawback that the electrical contact between the contact blade and the second pair of pins is poorly ensured because the spring of the cursor, after the melting of the fusible wire, is relaxed and exerts only a relatively weak force. on the blade.

It also has the disadvantage that the second pair of pins, because it is not secured to the body, is not usually changed each time the device is changed and this results in wear of the contact and a degradation of its quality. From this arrangement, it can also result in poor contact of the blade on the second pair of pins in the event that the first pair of pins is incorrectly inserted in the corresponding sockets.

In addition, this safety device of the prior art does not include an external display means which indicates that the fuse has blown, which makes it difficult to locate on a printed circuit board which comprises several devices of this type.

The object of the present invention is therefore to produce a fuse safety device for printed circuit boards which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks and which therefore makes it possible, on the one hand, to obtain and maintain good mechanical and electrical contact between the contact blade and the second pair of pins connected to the signaling circuit and, on the other hand, to signal on the printed circuit board the specific fuse which worked by the melting of its wire.

The object of the invention is therefore a safety device with a single or multi-wire fuse, in particular for printed circuit boards in which it is intended to be inserted, which comprises:
  • a) a base made of insulating material,
  • b) a first pair of pins intended to be plugged into corresponding sockets provided at the level of the circuit to be protected, or to be soldered thereto, continuing with a first pair of dowels projecting from the other side of the base and intended for fixing, for example by welding, the fusible wire
  • c) a second pair of plugs connected to a signaling circuit,
  • d) a cursor capable of being retained in a first position close to the first pair of pins by the fusible wire, with arming of a spring exerting on the cursor a propelling force towards the second pair of pins,
  • e) guide means provided in the base to guide the movement of the cursor,
  • f) a contact blade associated with the cursor and capable of contacting the second pair of pins, after fusion of the fusible wire,

caractérisé par le fait qu'il comporte des moyens associés au curseur et à l'embase pour assurer entre la lame de contact et la seconde paire de chevilles un bon contact sans rebondissements, lesdits moyens comprenant un dispositif de contact porté par le curseur et ayant sensiblement la forme d'un U dont une branche verticale s'étend transversalement à la trajectoire du curseur est flexible et constitue la lame de contact, dont le fond ou branche transversale du U est pourvu d'une ouverture servant au passage d'un téton du curseur et est pourvu de deux languettes latérales flexibles, le téton du curseur est guidé dans une rainure ménagée dans l'embase et les deux languettes latérales disposées de part et d'autre de ladite ouverture sont guidées dans deux autres rainures latérales de l'embase.characterized by the fact that it comprises means associated with the cursor and the base for ensuring good contact between the contact blade and the second pair of pins without bouncing, said means comprising a contact device carried by the cursor and having substantially the shape of a U whose vertical branch extends transversely to the trajectory of the cursor is flexible and constitutes the contact blade, whose bottom or transverse branch of the U is provided with an opening serving for the passage of a stud of the slider and is provided with two flexible lateral tabs, the slider pin is guided in a groove made in the base and the two lateral tabs arranged on either side of said opening are guided in two other lateral grooves of the base.

As this second pair of pins is located in an optical or audible signaling circuit, the user can immediately identify the defective card, and by the means indicated below, identify on the defective card, the defective fuse.

According to a variant, in the lateral grooves are provided notches which block the two lateral tongues of the contact device when the contact blade comes to bear against the second pair of pins, in a curved position between them.

According to a variant, the flexible blade which constitutes the contact blade carries a frontal steel plate in front of a permanent magnet carried by the base, between the second pair of dowels and against which the steel plate comes to stick. , at the fusion of the wire, by bending between these pins under the action of the relaxed spring.

According to another embodiment, said means for blocking the blade associated with the cursor, in the position in which it establishes the electrical connection between said second pair of dowels, are constituted by a second spring distinct from that which is intended for propulsion of the cursor at the melting of the fusible wire and acting in a direction which is perpendicular to the direction of the action of said propulsion spring of the cursor, said blade being moved into its curved position between said second pair of pins, under the action of said second spring, the removal of a locking mechanism involved in the melting of the fuse wire.

According to a variant of this latter embodiment, said locking means comprise a cage with blade guide slots held in its position separated from said second pair of pins, with arming of the second spring, by two balls locked on a chamfer of the cage by an underlying piston associated with the cursor and adapted to disengage from the balls when the fusible wire melts when the cursor propulsion spring is released.

The various embodiments and their variants which have just been succinctly described may also include means for protecting the device from the external environment and signaling on the printed circuit board the specific fuse which has worked.

To this end, the cursor, preferably made of a ceramic material, comprises a projecting part of prismatic shape with convex front surface, over which the fusible wire passes, a spring being armed between the face opposite to the previous one and a corresponding part of the base. Furthermore, the base has a wall identical to that against which the spring bears, the assembly of these two walls serving for the fitting of a cover plate serving for closing the safety device, the assembly being capped with a cover engaged by friction.

In addition, the device of the invention is arranged so that the closure plate as well as the cover, respectively comprise an opening which is located in line with the projecting part of the cursor allowing the observation of the latter when the cursor is in its position armed by the fuse wire.

The device according to the invention is produced with a molded plastic base of square shape and of small dimension, for example of the order of 10 mm, its height being 7 mm, for pins 4 mm long.

Figure 8 is a section of Figure 7 along line III-III without hatching for the cut elements.

In FIG. 3, the reference 14 designates the base of the device which is a piece of molded plastic material provided with a first pair of pins 15 and 16, as well as a second pair of pins 17 and 18, these pins being molded in the mass of plastic material and being intended to be pressed into corresponding sockets provided at the level of the conductive tracks concerned of a printed circuit board, or to be soldered directly on the tracks of the circuit to be checked.

On the upper face of the base 14 are provided two vertical wall elements 23 and 24, located respectively between the pairs of pins 19, 20, 21 and 22, and slightly beyond the planes passing through the axes of these pairs of ankles.

This slider 25 is a ceramic piece comprising a bottom 26 provided with a vertical wall element 27 with a convex front face 28 and with a flat inner face 29, and, at a certain distance from this, the bottom 26 carries a block of general prismatic appearance, the front face 31 of which is concave.

This contact element made of a material which is good conductor of electricity has the general shape of a U. One, 33, of the branches of the contact element 32 constitutes a contact blade whose flexibility is increased by two grooves 34 and 35 formed at the elbow formed with the bottom or transverse branch 36 of the contact element 32.

With the aid of two other grooves 37 and 38 formed in the bottom of the contact element 32, two lateral tabs 40 have been released from the bottom 36, on either side of a hole 39 which is provided therein. and 41, while opposite the contact blade 33, the bottom 36 carries the other vertical branch of the U-shaped contact element 32.

The contact element 32 is adapted to be fixed to the cursor 25, as shown in FIG. 3, which cursor 25 has in the lower face of its bottom 26 a non-visible stud, which passes through the bore 39 of the branch transverse 36 of the contact element and is engaged in a central groove 42 formed in the upper face of the base 14, two other lateral grooves 43 and 44 arranged on either side of the groove 42, serving to guide the side tabs 40 and 41.

The cursor 25 can either be disposed between the contact blade 33 of the contact element 32 and its second branch 39, or the latter can come to be housed in a slot, not shown, formed in the cursor 25, preferably at the during its manufacture.

Enfin, les rainures 43 et 44 comportent respectivement des crans d'arrêt 44 et 47 situés à une certaine distance des chevilles 21 et 22, comme cela sera explicité à propos du mode de fonctionnement décrit plus bas, après avoir noté qu'un ressort 48, de préférence hélicoïdal, est prévu entre la face arrière du curseur 25 et l'élément de paroi 23.Finally, the grooves 43 and 44 respectively comprise stop notches 44 and 47 located at a certain distance from the pins 21 and 22, as will be explained with regard to the operating mode described below, after having noted that a spring 48 , preferably helical, is provided between the rear face of the slider 25 and the wall element 23.

On the vertical walls 23 and 24 is fixed the closing plate 49 ', preferably made with a ceramic, and provided with an opening 50 which is located in line with the prismatic boss 30 when the latter is in its position shown in FIG. 3, this plate closing the cut-off device of the invention to prevent the possible passage of an arc which could occur during cut-off, while the assembly thus closed is capped with a cover 51 (FIG. 4) made of molded plastic and comprising an opening 52 situated in line with the opening 50 of the closing plate 49 '.

In the position shown in FIG. 3, a fusible wire 49 of the single or multi-wire type is welded to the pins 19 and 20 passing over the concave face 31 of the prismatic block 30, thus retaining the cursor 25 in a first position in which the spring 48 is compressed.

If it is assumed that the pins 15, 16 are engaged in sockets or welded to the conductive tracks of a circuit to be monitored on a printed circuit board and that the pins 17 and 18 are engaged in sockets or welded to the conductive tracks d '' a signaling circuit of this same card, in the event of fusion of the wire 49, the cursor 25 is propelled by the spring 48 towards the pins 21 and 22 while being guided in the grooves 42, 43 and 44 by the stud not shown and by the tabs 40 and 41 which protrude from the stop notches 46 and 47 after the contact blade 33 comes to bear against the pins 21, 22, bringing them together electrically and thus completing the circuit of the conductive track with a signaling circuit optical or audible or command of a relay authorizing a cut-off or any other command or control function.

Coming to bear against the pins 21 and 22, the contact blade 33 curves between the latter to ensure good contact which is maintained by the catch notches 46 and 47 which oppose any return of the contact blade 33 in a flat position.

While in the armed position as shown in FIG. 3, the prismatic boss 30 which can carry a green patch is visible through the openings 50 and 52, the melting of the wire 49 can be identified by the absence of said boss 30 at these openings.

There is thus a means which makes it possible both to identify a card comprising a blown fuse and the cut-off device concerned.

If it is desired to have only a visual indication, it is possible to remove the pins 21 and 22 as well as the contact element 32.

A la figure 6, la référence 14 désigne l'embase en matière isolante, embase dans laquelle est prévu le curseur 25.In FIG. 6, the reference 14 designates the base made of insulating material, the base in which the cursor 25 is provided.

This is a ceramic part comprising a bottom 26 provided with an element of vertical walls 27 with a front face 28 and an internal face 29, and, at a certain distance from this, the bottom 26 carries a prismatic block whose the front face 31 is concave.

6).The fusible wire 49 passes on this concave front face 31 and it is hooked to the first pair of pins 19 and 20, by arming the spring 48 housed in a cavity 101 of the slider 25 and bearing against a fixed stop 102 carried by the base 14 (see fig. 6).

To the front face 28 of the slider 25 is fixed by suitable means such as screws or rivets not shown, a flexible blade 103 to the middle part of which is fixed by screws or rivets 104 and 105, a plate of steel 106, while opposite it, the base 14 carries a permanent magnet 107 located between the second pair of pins 21 and 22.

Dès lors, on voit que lors de la fusion du fil fusible 49, le curseur 25 est propulsé par le ressort 48 en direction des chevilles 21 et 22 que la lame flexible 103 relie électriquement entre elles, en s'incurvant, alors que la plaquette d'acier 106 se colle sur l'aimant permanent 107 ce qui assure le blocage de la lame flexible 103 contre les chevilles 21 et 22, l'établissement d'un bon contact tout en évitant des rebondissements au niveau des chevilles 21 et 22 de la lame flexible qui a de préférence la forme d'une cuvette à ailes latérales redressées 108 et 109.Consequently, it can be seen that during the melting of the fusible wire 49, the cursor 25 is propelled by the spring 48 in the direction of the pins 21 and 22 that the flexible blade 103 electrically connects together, by bending, while the plate of steel 106 sticks to the permanent magnet 107 which ensures the blocking of the flexible blade 103 against the pins 21 and 22, the establishment of a good contact while avoiding rebounds at the level of the pins 21 and 22 the flexible blade which preferably has the shape of a bowl with straightened lateral wings 108 and 109.

While in the device described above, the contact between the flexible blade and the second pair of dowels takes place under the action of a propelling spring of the slider, and is maintained by a magnetic lock, these operations are carried out in the embodiment of Figures 7 and 8 only by elastic means, more especially by a second spring which is provided in addition to the propulsion spring of the cursor.

In these figures, we again find the base 14 and the first pair of dowels 19, 20 between which is stretched the fusible wire 49 which is supported on the front face 31 of the cursor 25. The latter is mounted in a chamber 110 a cage 111 carried by the base 14, and in the state shown in FIG. 7, this cursor arms a spring 112 mounted on an axial rod 113 carried by the cursor 25 or a piston 114 applied against the bottom of a blind hole 115 formed in the slider, said spring 112 also bearing against a transverse wall 116 of the cage 111. This transverse wall 116 has a bore 117 which is crossed by the axial rod 113 which enters a second chamber 118 of the cage 111. This second chamber 118 has a bottom with two chamfers 119 and 120 which open into an underlying cavity 121.

On these chamfers are arranged two balls 122 and 123 located on either side of the axial rod 113 associated with the slider, the mounting of the chamfer, the diameters of the balls and the cross section of the axial rod being chosen so that the balls 122 and 123 can only fall into the underlying cavity 121 when the axial rod 113 at least partially emerges from the second chamber.

Finally, the cage 111 has in its side walls two slots 124 and 125 which serve as guides for the flexible blade 126 made with an electrically conductive material and extending above the pins 21 and 22 in the portion shown in FIG. 3 , by being applied against the balls 122 and 123 by a compression spring 127 which, moreover, bears against the bottom of the cover 128 of the device.

When the fusible wire 49 melts, the cursor 25 is propelled towards a stop 129 carried by the base 14, under the action of the spring 112 which relaxes and which drives the piston 114 and its axial rod 113. As soon as the latter leaves the second chamber 118 by disengaging from the balls 122 and 123, these fall into the underlying cavity 121, and the second spring 127 expands by lowering the flexible blade 126 which comes to bear on the pins 21 and 22, bulging between them under the effect of the force exerted by said second spring 127.

As indicated above, these two pins 21 and 22 are part of a circuit for signaling the melting of fusible wire, so that the user can quickly identify the faulty circuit breaker device and replace it with a new one.
