Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for applying a layer of a flowable, fine ceramic mass to a solid, continuously moving carrier.
- the invention has for its object to provide such a device that is simple in construction and operable and that provides a layer of uniform thickness.
- a solid support 2 to be coated is guided in a straight line on a guide table 1.
- the carrier 2 which consists for example of sheet steel, is continuously moved in the direction of arrow a by known means, not shown.
- a roller 3 is arranged above the guide table 1 and has a smooth, metallic surface and carries an axle pin 4 at each of the two ends. However, the roller 3 can also have a smooth surface made of hard rubber or plastic with low elasticity.
- Each journal is supported in a wall 5.
- the walls 5 arranged on both sides of the roller 3 are firmly connected to one another via a crossbar 6.
- Each wall 5 is also pivotable about a fixed pin 7.
- the pins 7 are arranged so that their axes are aligned with one another and run parallel to the axis of the roller 3.
- a further wall 8 is arranged between the two walls 5 and is firmly connected to an upper part 9 of the cross-member 6.
- the wall 8 consists of an elastically deformable material, for example sheet metal, and extends, starting from the upper part 9 of the crossbar 6, in the direction of a gap 10 between the roller 3 and the carrier 2.
- the roller 3 forms together with the two opposite walls 5, which bear sealingly against the roller 3, and the wall 8 a storage space for the ceramic mass 13 to be applied.
- This mass is introduced into the storage space via one or more feed pipes 14, expediently in the Way that the surface of the mass 13 is always approximately the same height.
- the roller 3 can be driven circumferentially via one of its axle journals 4 in the direction of the arrow b.
- the drive is advantageously designed so that the speed at which the roller 3 rotates can be changed so that a circumferential speed can be set that is equal to, greater than or less than the feed speed of the carrier.
- An arm 16, into which a thread is cut, is provided on each of the two walls 5.
- a set screw 17 is screwed through this thread, the lower end of which is supported on a fixed stop 18.
- the height of the gap 10 between the roller 3 and the carrier 2 is set via the adjusting screw 17.
- the adjusting screws 11 is a gap 19 between the lower end of the wall 8 and the roller 3 is set to about the same gap height by pressing, which has the gap 1 0th
- the gap 19 is approximately between 0 and 4 mm adjustable so that the storage space can also be closed via the wall 8 in the event of interruptions in operation.
- the roller 3 pulls the fine-ceramic mass 13 through the gap 19, which is used for pre-metering the layer thickness, to the gap 10, in the area of which the mass 13 is applied to the carrier 2.
- the stirring cones 15 prevent skin formation on the surface of the mass 13 in the storage space. They promote the escape of trapped air and ensure an even consistency of the mass across the entire width of the storage room.
- a guide table 21 is again provided for a carrier 22 to be coated.
- the storage space for the mass 23 to be applied is formed by a roller 24 which can be driven at variable speed, two parallel lateral walls 25 and a wall 26 which extends over the width of the roller 24.
- the wall 26 is fastened to a crossbar 27.
- Set screws 28 engage it to set a gap 29 between the lower part of the wall 26 and the roller 24.
- the walls 25, 26 are fixed to the crossbar.
- a stirring cone 30, which moves and rotates translationally, projects into the storage space for the mass 23.
- the roller 24 has journal 31 at both ends, with which it is mounted in fixed bearings.
- the roller 24 is driven via one of the two axle journals.
- a lever 32 can be pivoted about each axle journal 31.
- the two levers 32 are connected to one another via a cross member 33.
- a plurality of setscrews 34 are screwed into the crossmember 33, each of which penetrates a bore in a double squeegee 35 which extends over the entire width of the roller 24.
- the double doctor blade 35 has an edge facing the roller 24 which acts as a doctor blade 35a and an edge facing the carrier 22 which acts as a doctor blade 35b.
- the doctor blade and doctor blade can also be designed as separate parts.
- a compression spring 36 is provided around each of the set screws 34, one end of which is supported on the crossmember 33 and the other end of which is supported on the double squeegee 35 and thereby presses the double squeegee 35 against a collar 37 of the set screw 34.
- One end of a compression spring 38 continues to act on each of the adjusting levers 32, the other end of which is supported on a stationary stop 39. The compression spring 38 holds the adjusting lever 32 in contact with an adjusting screw 40 which is screwed into a likewise fixed holding part 41.
- the gap 29 is first set by actuating the set screws 28 so that its height corresponds approximately to the thickness of the layer 42 to be applied.
- the levers 32 are then pivoted so far by actuating the set screws 40 that the distance of the doctor blade 35b from the carrier 22 corresponds exactly to the desired layer thickness.
- the scraper blade edge 35a is then placed against the roller 24 by actuating the set screws 34 so that it scrapes the surface of this roller cleanly.
- the roller 24 driven in the direction of arrow c serves in association with the stirring cone 30 only for transporting the mass 23 through the gap 29.
- the arrangement according to FIG. 2, in comparison to the device according to FIG. 1, makes it possible to apply the same layer thickness with a gap 29 that is only half as large. This makes it easier to close the storage room in the event of business interruptions.
- a roller 45 with a smooth, hard surface is provided above a guide table 43 for a carrier 44 to be coated, said roller 45 being drivable at different speeds in the direction of the arrow d.
- the roller 45 is mounted at both ends in stationary eccentric bearings 46.
- the roller 45 which forms a boundary of a storage space for the upward zutra g mass 47.
- This reservoir is further characterized by two lateral walls 48 and a rear Wall 49 formed.
- the rear wall 49 is arranged at such a distance from the roller 45 that the mass 47 located in the storage space lies directly on the carrier 44, so that its lowermost region is carried along by the carrier 44.
- a sealing strip 50 made of a flexible material and extending over its entire width is connected, the free half of which rests on the carrier 44 during operation.
- a doctor carrier 52 is arranged between the side walls 48 and can be pivoted about a fixed axis 51.
- a wiper blade 53 for example made of sheet steel, is fastened to the underside of the doctor blade carrier 52 and can be adjusted by pivoting the doctor blade carrier 52 against the roller 45.
- a plurality of adjusting screws 54 are additionally provided, which are screwed into the doctor carrier 52 and the ends of which rest against the doctor blade 53.
- the height of the gap 55 between the carrier 44 and the roller 45 is adjusted by rotating the eccentric bearing 46, and this predisposes the thickness of the layer to be applied. Then the speed of the roller 45 is adjusted so that the desired layer thickness is achieved. The layer 56 becomes thinner at a predetermined gap height 55 as the rotational speed of the roller 45 increases.
- the doctor blade 53 ensures that the layer of mass 47 adhering to the roller surface 45 is completely doctored off. With this arrangement, too, it can be expedient, in order to avoid a sanding effect, to move the doctor blade 53 back and forth continuously parallel to the axis of the roller 45 for a short distance.

- Fig. 2 ein zweites Ausführungsbeispiel und
- 1 shows a first embodiment in a schematic side view,
- Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment and
- Fig. 3 shows a third embodiment in each case in a representation corresponding to FIG. 1.
A further wall 8 is arranged between the two walls 5 and is firmly connected to an
The roller 3 forms together with the two opposite walls 5, which bear sealingly against the roller 3, and the wall 8 a storage space for the ceramic mass 13 to be applied. This mass is introduced into the storage space via one or
An
Before the device is started up, the height of the
The stirring
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, a guide table 21 is again provided for a
The
The arrangement according to FIG. 2, in comparison to the device according to FIG. 1, makes it possible to apply the same layer thickness with a
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, a
Before the device is started up, the height of the
