Abstract
Description
In continuous casting installations, the cast product is guided at the outlet of the mold by two parallel rows of rollers. To facilitate the replacement of worn or damaged rollers, the guide device has been divided into segments, each segment or cage being formed from a frame carrying several rollers from each row and fixed to a supporting frame. Different means have been proposed for setting up the cages on the carrying frame and for dismantling them. The present invention relates to curved continuous casting installations in which these means consist of two fixed rails arranged radially, on either side of each cage, the sides of which are provided with rollers engaged in these rails, and a device for lifting to move the cages along the rails (DE-A-1 957 690).
To keep in each row substantially the same spacing between the extreme rollers of two neighboring cages and between the successive rollers of each cage, we are led to give the cages an approximately trapezoidal shape, wider at the level of the outer row of rollers than at the level of the interior row, and it is generally no longer possible to dismantle the cages by moving them radially towards the center of curvature of the installation.
This solution is expensive because it requires a support frame of complicated construction and the rails occupy an important place at the rear of the machine. Another solution is to mount one of the end rollers of the outer row of each cage so that it can be removed on site to allow the cage to be removed (EP-A-0 015 892). This solution complicates the replacement of the segments since it is necessary to disassemble the removable roller in order to be able to remove the cage, and, after the installation of a new cage, fix this roller on the latter. It has also been proposed to fix one of the rollers of the outer row individually on the support frame (DE-A-2 425 883); each cage having one less roller in the outer row, its disassembly no longer poses a problem but there are then difficulties in aligning the fixed rollers and the rollers of the cages after replacement thereof.
The present invention proposes to provide a simple solution to this problem allowing easy and rapid replacement of the cages.
The device which is the subject of the invention is characterized in that the rails for removing the cages each comprise at least one portion inclined with respect to the general radial direction of the rail and situated so as to cause, during the movement of a cage on these rails, a tilting of the cage to place it at an angle and allow it to cross in this position the passage limited by the extreme rollers of the inner row of the two cages adjacent to the dismantled cage.
Preferably, each rail will have two portions inclined in opposite directions and cooperating respectively with the inner and outer rollers of the cage to cause the latter to tilt.
- Figure 1 is an elevational view of a curved continuous casting installation to which the invention applies and equipped with a device for installing and removing known roller cages; and
- Figure 2 is a view, on a larger scale, of a portion of the guide rollers of a continuous casting installation equipped with a device for installing and removing the roller cages according to the invention.
The continuous casting installation shown in Figure 1 comprises a
In the installation shown in FIG. 1, the segments have a substantially rectangular section and can be disassembled without problem by moving them radially along the
In modern installations, it is sought to reduce as much as possible the spacing between the rollers, in order to avoid bulging of the cast product, and this leads to giving the segments a shape of trapezoidal assembly, as shown in FIG. 2. The X dimension of the segment at the
It is understood that these modifications, as well as those obtained by replacing the means described with technically equivalent means, fall within the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
