Abstract
In order to protect the inner surface of, in particular, threaded pipes, the threaded pipe ends of which are provided with a thread protection device for airtight closure, a support can be inserted into the pipes, for example in the form of a strip, on which several containers are spaced one behind the other are arranged. The containers are filled with desiccant and are made of moisture-permeable material. The carrier is preferably attached to the two pipe ends. A moisture display device is arranged in the bottom of the thread protection device.
Description
The invention relates to a protective device for pipes, the pipe ends are provided with a thread.
Pipes, especially threaded oilfield pipes, are often exposed to various climatic conditions due to long transport routes and storage. As a result, they tend to rust on the inside. The tubes are usually provided with protective caps at the ends to protect the threads. To further prevent foreign bodies or rainwater from getting inside the pipes, closed protective caps and protective plugs are often used, which completely close the pipe on both sides. This in turn has the consequence that condensation forms with temperature fluctuations, which can increase the rust formation. Chemical agents are known which have the property of absorbing moisture from the environment. Such agents are commonly called desiccants. It is also known to dispense such desiccants into bags to protect the tubes pack. and then push these bags into the tubes, where they are stored just behind the tube ends. It has now been shown that these known protective devices are not sufficient to protect the pipes from rusting. It has been shown that in tubes, in particular of greater length, the moisture is only absorbed by the desiccant from the vicinity of the bag, and that the inner tube surfaces lying inward rust. It is also necessary to inspect the pipes from time to time. For this purpose, the protective caps and protective plugs have so far been unscrewed or removed in a rather cumbersome, time-consuming and expensive manner; the inside of the pipe is then checked visually.
The present invention is therefore based on the object of designing a protective device in such a way that corrosion, in particular rusting of the inner wall of the tubes is reliably avoided and, furthermore, the previous, cumbersome, complex and expensive inspection can be avoided.
This object is achieved by the training specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
The design according to the invention makes it possible in a simple manner to introduce desiccants into pipes in such a way that reliable protection against moisture and thus against rust formation along the entire pipe is ensured. The distribution of the desiccant can in portions, filled in containers, along the inside of the tube with short, longer, even or uneven intervals. A continuous distribution along the inside of the pipe is also possible. The handling and attachment of the device according to the invention is possible without essential aids and can also be done by auxiliary staff.
Due to the inventive design, the protective device (protective cap and protective plug) once screwed on can remain in the installed position. The inside of the pipe is checked by monitoring the moisture with the aid of a suitable moisture indicator. A measuring and warning device can also be installed, which emits an optical or acoustic warning signal when a predetermined moisture level is reached. The inventive design eliminates the complex and therefore expensive removal of the protective device for the purpose of inspecting the inside of the pipe; With the help of the built-in moisture indicator, it can be immediately recognized whether or not there is a degree of moisture in the interior of the pipe that allows rusting.
