Description
- La présente invention concerne de nouveaux produits en feuille contenant un thermoplastique et des fibres cellulosiques ; elle concerne également un procédé de préparation desdits produits nouveaux et les applications desdits produits nouveaux.
- On a déjà préconisé l'amélioration de certaines propriétés des substances thermoplastiques en y incorporant des fibres de module d'élasticité élevé. C'est ainsi que des fibres de verre, de carbone, d'amiante et de bore sont couramment utilisées pour renforcer certaines substances thermoplastiques, telles que les polyamides, polycarbonates, polyalkylènes (polyéthylènes et polypropylènes), polyesters, polystyrènes, dans le but d'augmenter la rigidité, la résistance aux chocs, la résistance à la traction et d'améliorer la stabilité dimensionnelle.
- Par ailleurs, on sait que l'on a déjà utilisé des fibres cellulosiques pour renforcer les substances thermodurcissables, telles que les résines urée-formaldéhyde et mélamine-formaldéhyde, qui possèdent une bonne affinité chimique pour la cellulose, circonstance qui favorise la dispersion des fibres cellulosiques au sein du polymère (voir à cet effet le brevet britannique n° 1 319 371 qui décrit la préparation d'une feuille à partir de fibres cellulosiques et d'une charge organique en poudre constituée par un polymère urée-formaldéhyde).
- On a également préconisé, notamment dans la demande de brevet français FR-A-2 059 240, un procédé de fabrication d'une feuille papetière, à base de fibres de cellulose, pouvant contenir des quantités substantielles d'un polymère naturel ou synthétique finement divisé.
- Le document FR-A-2 377 883 décrit des matériaux en feuille obtenus par une technique papetière, contenant des fibres cellulosiques et, éventuellement, minérales, un floculant du type polyélectrolyte et un polymère thermoplastique non liant. Les produits obtenus par cette technique présentent entre autres l'inconvénient d'une résistance insuffisante à l'état humide.
- On connaît également le document BE-A-701 962 qui préconise l'emploi dans une technique papetière de particules grossières de mousse (de dimensions 1 à 5 mm) qui sont faciles à retenir sur toile mais conduisent à des problèmes d'homogénéité et limitent considérablement le type des produits pouvant être fabriqués, qui sont en fait des cartons de forte épaisseur.
- Ainsi, les matériaux connus à base de fibres et de matière plastique se situent dans deux classes différentes : l'une consistant à renforcer un matériau thermoplastique avec des quantités relativement faibles d'une fibre renforçante, l'autre consistant à modifier les propriétés d'un papier à base de fibres cellulosiques par l'incorporation, dans ce papier, d'une certaine quantité d'un matériau thermoplastique.
- La présente invention se situe dans le domaine technique consistant dans le renforcement d'un matériau thermoplastique en utilisant des fibres cellulosiques.
- Ainsi, la présente invention décrit une solution technique nouvelle pour résoudre le problème de la dispersion de fibres cellulosiques au sein d'un polymère thermoplastique, qui consiste à opérer dans un milieu où lesdites fibres cellulosiques sont aisément dispersibles : on forme une feuille par voie papetière par traitement spécial d'une suspension aqueuse comprenant les fibres cellulosiques et la substance thermoplastique sous forme de poudre, d'une part, et d'autres ingrédients essentiels (liant et foculant comme indiqué ci-après), d'autre part.
- Un des buts de l'invention est de proposer une feuille thermoplastique ayant des propriétés mécaniques améliorées et plus précisément les propriétés importantes que sont la rigidité, la résistance à la traction, la résistance aux chocs et la stabilité dimensionnelle.
- Un autre but de l'invention est d'obtenir au moyen d'une machine à papier une feuille thermoplastique qui, après avoir été formée et séchée, est susceptible d'être soumise à un traitement complémentaire (tel qu'imprégnation, couchage, lissage) classique en papeterie.
- Un autre but de l'invention est d'améliorer la stabilité dimensionnelle, la cohésion interne à l'état sec et humide, la souplesse et la résistance au pliage d'un substrat en feuille thermoplastique pouvant être notamment utilisé comme support d'enduction pour panneaux de revêtement et, en particulier, pour revêtement de sol.
- Un autre but de l'invention est de proposer un nouveau matériau aux industries transformatrices de matière plastique sous forme de granulés obtenus par déchiquetage et granulation de la feuille thermoplastique fabriquée sur machine à papier selon le procédé.
- Parmi les avantages de l'invention, on peut notamment mentionner :
- - les économies de matière thermoplastique résultant de l'emploi de matériaux aux propriétés renforcées ;
- - les économies sur les coûts de production résultant de l'utilisation de machines à forte production horaire (machines à papier) en remplacement des machines à fabriquer les feuilles thermoplastiques par calandrage, extrusion ou enduction.
- Parmi les applications de l'invention, on peut notamment mentionner :
- - l'utilisation de la feuille thermoplastique fabriquée sur machine à papier comme support d'enduction de PVC plastifié pour revêtement de sol lorsque la substance thermoplastique introduite dans la feuille est le PVC et que la feuille est chargée et plastifiée ;
- - l'utilisation de la feuille thermoplastique fabriquée sur machine à papier comme matériau de calandrage ;
- - l'utilisation de la feuille thermoplastique fabriquée sur machine à papier comme matériau de thermoformage ;
- - l'utilisation de la feuille thermoplastique comme support d'enduction ou couchage pour impression-écriture ;
- - la transformation de la feuille thermoplastique fabriquée sur machine à papier par déchiquetage et, éventuellement, granulation, en une matière première pour la mise en oeuvre par extrusion, extrusion- soufflage, injection, moulage.
- La présente invention concerne des produits en feuille tels que définis à la revendication 1.
- L'invention concerne aussi le procédé de tels produits en feuille tel que défini à la revendication 9.
- Il est possible de remplacer une partie des fibres cellulosiques qui constituent le mélange de base par des fibres minérales ou organiques, naturelles ou synthétiques. Ainsi, dans les matériaux selon l'invention, 30 % environ des fibres pourront être non cellulosiques.
- Dans le tableau 1 ci-après, on a fourni une liste de fibres cellulosiques ou non cellulosiques utilisables dans le cadre de l'invention.
- Parmi les fibres non cellulosiques, on mentionnera en particulier l'utilisation possible de fibres de verre qui présentent un intérêt tout particulier du fait qu'elles confèrent aux produits en feuille selon l'invention une stabilité dimensionnelle tout à fait remarquable. Lorsqu'on veut utiliser des quantités notables de ces fibres de verre, il est apparu souhaitable d'employer simultanément des fibres d'alcool polyvinylique, insolubles dans l'eau froide, qui ont pour fonction de faciliter la dispersion des fibres de verre dans les suspensions aqueuses.
- Des mélanges de fibres particulièrement intéressants sont constitués d'environ 14 parties de fibres cellulosiques, 2 parties de fibres de verre et éventuellement 1 partie de fibres d'alcool polyvinylique.
- Toutes les substances thermoplastiques en poudre (également appelées ici polymères thermoplastiques) conviennent pour l'élaboration de la feuille thermoplastique selon l'invention et, en particulier, le chlorure de polyvinyle (PVC), l'acétate de polyvinyle (PVA), les polyalkylènes - notamment le polyéthylène haute densité (PEhd), le polyéthylène basse densité (Pebd), le polypropylène (PPhd ; PPbd), le polybutadiène et le polyisoprène -, le polystyrène (PS), les polyamides (PA), les polymères et copolymères obtenus notamment à partir de l'acrylonitrile, des acides acrylique et méthacrylique et de leurs esters, le polycarbonate (PC), le polyacétal et les polyesters thermoplastiques. Parmi les copolymères qui conviennent, on peut notamment mentionner les copolymères acrylonitrile-styrène, méthacrylate de méthyle-butadiène-styrène, styrène-butadiène, ABS. Le cas échéant, la substance thermoplastique pourra être préalablement associée à un plastifiant. La substance préférée est le PVC éventuellement plastifié.
- Les poudres thermoplastiques peuvent être avantageusement utilisées brutes de polymérisation lorsque leur granulométrie est appropriée. A défaut, il est nécessaire de les broyer pour obtenir la granulométrie désirée. Les matières plastiques de récupération conviennent également à condition qu'elles soient correctement broyées. On choisira de préférence des poudres thermoplastiques de granulométrie inférieure ou égale à 500 microns.
- De plus, une partie de la poudre de matériau thermoplastique utilisée dans le mélange de base peut être remplacée par une charge minérale non liante. Une liste des charges minérales non liantes est donnée, en exemple, dans le tableau IV ci-après. Ces charges, utilisées couramment dans l'industrie papetière, ont des particules de dimensions (diamètre moyen) au plus égales à 80 microns. La quantité de charge non liante sera au plus de 40 % en poids par rapport au poids du matériau thermoplastique en poudre.
- Les matériaux selon l'invention comporteront au moins un liant organique indispensable pour la constitution de la feuille selon la technique papetière.
- Le liant organique assure la liaison des constituants de la feuille thermoplastique entre eux et peut renforcer, le cas échéant, les propriétés physiques de la feuille. Parmi les liants qui conviennent, on peut notamment citer ceux du tableau Il ci-après. Les liants préférés sont les latex (acryliques, styrène-butadiène) et l'amidon, notamment l'amidon comprenant, dans son constituant polymère linéaire (c'est-à-dire l'amylose), 50 à 6000 motifs anhydroglucose par molécule tel que, par exemple, la fécule native (obtenue à partir de la pomme de terre) et l'amidon natif de maïs qui renferment 100 à 6000 motifs anhydroglucose (dans le polymère linéaire) par molécule, et les amidons modifiés par voie chimique ou enzymatique qui renferment 50 à 3000 motifs anhydroglucose (dans le polymère linéaire) par molécule.
- La quantité de liant utilisable est de 0,2 à environ 30 parties en poids sec (avantageusement 2 à 10 parties en poids sec) pour 100 parties du mélange de base (fibres et poudre thermoplastique, éventuellement charge minérale).
- Les matériaux selon l'invention comporteront également au moins un floculant indispensable pour la constitution de la feuille selon la technique papetière.
- Parmi les floculants qui conviennent, on peut notamment mentionner les sels métalliques, tels que notamment les sels d'aluminium, de fer (II), de fer (III), de zinc et de chrome, tels que les halogénures, sulfates et phosphates et les autres substances indiquées dans le tableau III ci-après. Le floculant préféré selon l'invention est le polychlorure d'aluminium qui est une substance également connue sous le nom d'hydroxychlorure d'aluminium, qui a pour formule générale (OH)yAlxClzoyox et qui est notamment commercialisée par la Société Péchiney Ugine Kuhlmann sous le nom de marque « WAC ».
- Le ou les floculants seront, selon le procédé de l'invention, utilisés en deux fractions.
- La première fraction du floculant, qui est introduite avant le liant, et le liant assurent une première agglomération des constituants du mélange de base. La deuxième fraction du floculant a pour objet de renforcer la cohésion des constituants du mélange de base et améliorer ainsi la rétention sur la machine à papier et la résistance des flocs. Bien entendu, on peut utiliser soit le même agent floculant avant et après le liant, soit encore des agents floculants différents, soit enfin des mélanges d'agents floculants.
- La quantité de floculant utilisable est, au total, de 0,02 à environ 10 parties pour 100 parties du mélange de base.
- D'autres adjuvants classiques en papeterie, tels que des agents hydrofugeants, des agents lubrifiants, des agents antimousse ou brise-mousse, des colorants, des azurants optiques, des antioxydants, peuvent être présents dans les feuilles selon l'invention.
- Le tableau V ci-après fournit une liste non limitative des agents hydrofugeants (les produits préférés étant les produits H1 et H4 dudit tableau).
- Le tableau VII ci-après fournit une liste non limitative d'agents auxiliaires éventuellement utilisables selon l'invention.
- On sait par ailleurs qu'un certain nombre de matériaux plastiques ne présentent des propriétés optimales que dans la mesure où ces matériaux sont plastifiés. Il est donc possible d'introduire en outre dans les produits selon l'invention de 10 à 100% en poids, par rapport au poids du matériau thermoplastique (plus particulièrement dans le cas du PVC), de plastifiant.
- En pratique, il est connu que la plastification des matériaux thermoplastiques peut être réalisée soit par plastification interne, soit par plastification externe.
- La plastification interne est réalisée au cours de la fabrication de la matière thermoplastique par copolymérisation de polymères « souples et « durs • .
- La plastification externe est réalisée en incorporant à la matière thermoplastique un agent possédant un bon pouvoir solvant et gonflant vis-à-vis de ladite matière thermoplastique mise en oeuvre.
- On peut, selon la présente invention, réaliser la plastification par l'un ou l'autre mode décrit ci-dessus. Les plastifiants externes utilisables, notamment dans le cas du PVC, sont les esters adipiques (adipate de dibutyle, adipate de benzyloctyle), les esters phosphoriques (phosphates de tricrésyle, de triphényle, de diphénylsylénile, de trichloréthyle, de diphényloctyle, de trioctyle), les esters phtaliques (phtalates de diméthyle, de diéthyle, de dibutyle, de dinonyle, de benzylbutyle, de dicylohexyle), les esters sulfoniques, les paraffines chlorées. Avec la poudre de PVC, on utilisera de préférence le di-(2- éthylhexyl)-phtalate (en abrégé DOP).
- La présente invention concerne également un procédé pour la préparation des feuilles telles que décrites ci-dessus.
- Le procédé selon l'invention de préparation par voie papetière d'une feuille thermoplastique armée de fibres cellulosiques, dans lequel on utilise une poudre thermoplastique et des fibres cellulosiques, est caractérisé en ce que :
- 1) on prépare une suspension aqueuse à partir d'un mélange de base [choisi parmi l'ensemble constitué par (i) les fibres et la substance thermoplastique en poudre quand il n'y a pas de charge minérale non liante et (ii) les fibres, la substance thermoplastique en poudre et la charge minérale non liante quand celle-ci est présente], d'un liant organique et d'un agent floculant, puis forme, au moyen de la suspension ainsi obtenue, une feuille'par voie humide que l'on essore et sèche ; et
- 2) si nécessaire, on soumet la feuille thermoplastique ainsi obtenue à au moins un traitement complémentaire.
- Le procédé selon l'invention est mis en oeuvre au stade 1) à partir de quatre moyens essentiels, à savoir les fibres cellulosiques, la substance thermoplastique en poudre,. le liant organique et l'agent floculant. D'autres moyens peuvent intervenir au stade 1), à savoir une charge minérale non liante, un agent plastifiant, un agent antistatique, un agent antioxydant, un agent porophore (qui joue notamment le rôle d'agent d'expansion, en particulier pour le PVC), un agent dispersant (pour la substance thermoplastique), un agent émulsifiant (pour émulsionner l'agent plastifiant) et un ou plusieurs adjuvants classiques en papeterie, tels que les agents hydrofugeants, les agents antimousse et/ou brise-mousse, les colorants, les azurants optiques, les agents de rétention, les agents lubrifiants.
- Pour mettre en oeuvre le stade 1), il est important de ne pas introduire dans la suspension aqueuse du mélange de base (en abrégé MB) la totalité du floculant avant le liant organique. Il est plutôt recommandé, pour réduire les pertes sous toile, soit d'introduire le floculant après le liant, soit de préférence d'introduire une partie de l'agent floculant avant l'ajout du liant, puis le reste après le liant.
- Bien évidemment, les quantités relatives des divers constituants (fibres, poudre de matière thermoplastique, éventuellement charge non liante, floculant, liant, nouveau floculant et autres additifs) doivent être conformes à ce qui est mentionné ci-dessus.
- Selon une caractéristique spécifique du stade 1), on introduit 0,02 à 10 parties en poids d'agent floculant pour 100 parties en poids de MB. De préférence, on introduira dans la suspension aqueuse comprenant 100 parties en poids de MB :
- (i) 0,01 à 4 parties (avantageusement 0,01 à 3 parties) en poids d'agent floculant,
- (ii) le liant organique,
- (iii) 0,01 à 6 parties (avantageusement 0,01 à 5 parties) en poids d'agent floculant.
- Le polymère thermoplastique peut être utilisé soit sous forme d'une poudre sèche, soit sous forme d'une dispersion dans l'eau ; dans ce dernier cas, la dispersion pourra comporter une faible proportion, par exemple de 0,1 à 1 %, d'un agent dispersant.
- Pour l'incorporation de plastifiant dans la feuille thermoplastique (notamment par un traitement de surface), il est avantageux d'émulsionner le plastifiant au moyen d'un émulsifiant classique de l'industrie textile ou papetière. On choisira par exemple les dérivés d'éther d'éthylpolyglycol particulièrement intéressants pour l'obtention d'émulsion aqueuse homogène et stable. La dose d'agent émulsifiant sera de l'ordre de 0,05 à 2 % en poids, par rapport au poids du plastifiant. L'émulsification s'obtient en ajoutant le plastifiant dans de l'eau contenant l'agent émulsifiant et en brassant avec un appareil type mixeur tournant à plus de 250 tr/min. Ce mélange à concentration variable de dioctylphtalate dans l'eau contiendra, par exemple, de 100 à 990 g de dioctylphtalate pour 1 000 g de mélange. Cette technique est particulièrement intéressante lorsque le plastifiant est ajouté au stade 1) du procédé.
- Mais le procédé le plus intéressant pour l'incorporation du plastifiant est de réaliser cette incorporation au stade 2) du procédé en utilisant la technique dite du size-press telle que mentionnée ci-après.
- Le cas échéant, on pourra introduire au stade 1) un agent antioxydant pour éviter le vieillissement de la substance thermoplastique entrant dans la feuille thermoplastique selon l'invention, en particulier pour prévenir les craquelures superficielles du polystyrène, le jaunissement et la diminution des propriétés mécaniques du PVC, sous l'action des rayons UV. Parmi les agents antioxydants qui conviennent, on peut utiliser le 2-(2-hydroxy-5-méthylphényl)-2H-benzotriazole, de préférence à la dose de 0,1 à 5 % en poids, par rapport au poids de la substance thermoplastique en poudre.
- Si nécessaire, on introduira soit au stade 1), soit au stade 2) un agent antistatique.
- D'autres adjuvants classiques en papeterie peuvent intervenir, le cas échéant, au stade 1) tels que, par exemple, les agents hydrofugeants (également appelés agents de collage), les agents lubrifiants, les agents antimousse ou brise-mousse, les colorants, les azurants optiques. Parmi les hydrofugeants qui conviennent, on peut notamment citer ceux du tableau V ci-après et, parmi les agents auxiliaires, ceux cités dans le tableau VII donné ci-après.
- L'agent hydrofugeant est préférentiellement introduit au stade 1) après le liant organique et avant la 2efraction de floculant. La quantité d'agent hydrofugeant peut être comprise entre 0,05 et 10 (avantageusement entre 0,05 et 5 et, de préférence, entre 0,1 et 3) parties en poids sec pour 100 parties en poids de MB. Les agents hydrofugeants préférés sont les produits H1 et H4 du tableau V ci-après.
- Si nécessaire, on introduit au stade 1), en même temps que l'agent hydrofugeant ou après celui-ci, au moins un agent auxiliaire choisi notamment parmi l'ensemble constitué par les agents de résistance à l'état humide (0,1 à 5 parties en poids pour 100 parties en poids de MB), les agents antimousse (0,05 à 0,2 partie en poids pour 100 parties en poids de MB), les colorants (en quantité suffisante pour l'effet désiré), les agents fongicides et, le cas échéant, les agents lubrifiants (0,2 à 5 parties en poids pour 100 parties en poids de MB).
- Par la mise en oeuvre du stade 1), on obtient une feuille thermoplastique ayant un grammage compris entre 15 et 1 500 g/m2.
- La feuille obtenue au stade 1) est soumise, si nécessaire, au stade 2) à un ou plusieurs traitements complémentaires, sur machine à papier ou hors machine à papier pour notamment :
- - améliorer l'aspect, l'uni de surface, augmenter la résistance superficielle et uniformiser les propriétés mécaniques,
- - renforcer la rigidité ou la souplesse,
- - obtenir les propriétés particulières telles qu'ignifugation, antiadhérence, ingraissabilité, thermos- cellabilité et des effets spéciaux, tels qu'effets barrières et imputrescibilité (résistance aux bactéries et aux champignons).
- Les moyens à mettre en ceuvre, dans ce but, sont notamment la size-press, ou presse encolleuse, les coucheuses à rouleaux (roll coater, reverse roll), les coucheuses à lames métalliques, à lame d'air, ou encore les coucheuses à racle. A ces moyens, s'ajoutent les moyens de transformation pour l'exploitation de la thermoplastification sur machine à papier ou hors machine à papier (four à air chaud, four à gaz, infrarouge, calandrage à chaud) et pour l'amélioration de l'uni de surface : lissage, calandrage et/ou grainage.
- D'une manière générale, le stade 2) pourra comprendre l'apport d'au moins une substance choisie parmi l'ensemble constitué par les charges minérales, les liants organiques, les plastifiants, les antioxydants, les antistatiques et les adjuvants classiques de la papeterie, tels que notamment les agents d'encollage, les agents dispersants, les pigments, les agents fluorescents, les colorants de nuançage, les agents lubrifiants, les agents modificateurs de viscosité, les agents antimousse, les agents insolubilisants et les antibiotiques au moyen d'un bain aqueux de 10 à 600 g/I. Bien entendu, le stade 2) sera mis en oeuvre en fonction des objectifs recherchés.
- Du point de vue pratique, on pourra utiliser au stade 2) au moins un liant, notamment un liant du tableau VI ci-après et, le cas échéant, au moins une substance choisie parmi les charges minérales non liantes (telles que décrites ci-dessus au stade 1)), les agents auxiliaires (tels que ceux donnés dans le tableau VII ci-après), les plastifiants et les émulsifiants pour plastifiants.
- La quantité de matières sèches pouvant être déposée au stade 2) est comprise notamment entre 1 et 200 g/m2, compte tenu des différents moyens d'enduction utilisables et des propriétés finales requises. A titre indicatif, en size-press non pigmentée, on pourra appliquer 1 à 10 g/m2 de matières sèches. Par couchage pigmenté avec une racle Champion, on pourra appliquer entre 3 et 30 g/m2 de matières sèches sur une face en un seul passage. Sur une lame d'air, on pourra appliquer 5 à 40 g/m2 de matières sèches sur une face en un seul passage. En lame traînante rigide ou souple, on pourra appliquer 5 à 40 g/m2 de matières sèches sur une face en un seul passage.
- Les modalités opératoires du stade 2) pour l'apport des agents mentionnés ci-dessus sont celles décrites dans la demande de brevet européen n° 79 400 405.1 du 19 juin 1979.
- Le meilleur mode de mise en oeuvre du procédé selon l'invention a été décrit ci-après.
- Le stade 1) comprend les étapes suivantes.
- a) On introduit sous agitation dans une suspension aqueuse de fibres à 10-50 g/I (fibres cellulosiques raffinées à un degré SR compris entre 15 et 65 associées, le cas échéant, à d'autres fibres, notamment des fibres de verre et de PVA) la substance thermoplastique en poudre ayant une granulométrie inférieure ou égale à 500 microns (si nécessaire ladite substance thermoplastique a été préalablement dispersée dans de l'eau au moyen d'un agent dispersant).
- b) Le cas échéant, on ajoute à la suspension obtenue une charge minérale non liante.
- c) On dilue le floculant dans l'eau de 1 à 10 fois. Il s'agit ici d'un floculant de préférence minéral (polychlorure d'aluminium) que l'on introduit dans la suspension résultante à raison de 0,01 à 4 parties (de préférence 0,01 à 3 parties) en poids pour 100 parties en poids de MB.
- d) Le liant (qui peut être notamment de l'amidon natif préalablement cuit à 80-90 °C, ou un latex en émulsion aqueuse à la concentration de 15 à 100 g/!) est alors incorporé dans la suspension résultante sous agitation soit en discontinu, soit de préférence en continu dans les circuits de tête de la machine à papier.
- e) Peuvent être alors incorporés soit en discontinu dans le cuvier de mélange, soit en continu dans les circuits de tête : un agent antioxygène, un agent antistatique, un agent d'hydrofugation, un agent d'azurage, un ou des colorants, un agent antimousse et, éventuellement, le lubrifiant.
- f) On introduit ensuite la deuxième fraction de l'agent floculant, avant la caisse de tête, à raison de 0,01 à 6 parties (de préférence 0,01 à 5 parties) en poids pour 100 parties en poids de MB. Le floculant joue à ce stade un rôle important sur la floculation, la rétention et l'égouttage. Ces deux dernières propriétés peuvent être, le cas échéant, améliorées en ajoutant également un agent de rétention classique de la papeterie.
- g) La suspension résultante est introduite dans la caisse de tête et on forme une feuille thermoplastique par essorage sur une toile telle que décrite, par exemple, dans la demande de brevet européen précitée.
- h) Après le passage sur la toile, on procède à un pressage classique en partie humide au moyen d'une ou plusieurs presses multiples (habillées ou nues) au séchage à une température de l'ordre de 100 à 150 °C et, le cas échéant, à l'exploitation de la thermoplastification (par exemple traitement à 130-280 °C).
- La feuille obtenue au stade 1) qui a un grammage compris entre 15 et 1 500 g/m2 est soumise, le cas échéant, au stade 2).
- Le stade 2) comprend un ou plusieurs traitements sur machine à papier ou hors machine à papier.
- Les quantités de matières déposées sur la feuille fibreuse au cours de ces traitements de surface sont très variables et dépendent évidemment des objectifs recherchés et des moyens de fabrication mis en oeuvre. Dans les applications traditionnelles d'impression-écriture, ces traitements de surface peuvent être du type de ceux couramment employés sur les supports cellulosiques. Pour les applications spéciales, leur nature sera fonction des propriétés souhaitées.
- D'autres avantages et caractéristiques seront mieux compris à la lecture qui va suivre d'exemples non limitatifs mais donnés à titre d'illustration.
- En procédant comme indiqué ci-dessus dans le meilleur mode de mise en oeuvre, on a préparé des feuilles thermoplastiques armées ayant un grammage de l'ordre de 500 g/m2, les quantités et la nature des produits utilisés étant données dans le tableau VIII ci-après, les feuilles obtenues au stade 1) étant séchées à une température de l'ordre de 100-150 °C, les feuilles soumises au traitement du stade 2) étant également séchées à une température de l'ordre de 100-150 °C après ledit traitement.
- Les feuilles ainsi obtenues ont alors été soumises à une thermoplastification à 180 °C pendant 3 min, puis testées. Les résultats de ces tests ont été consignés dans le tableau IX ci-après, ils permettent de tirer les conclusions qui suivent.
- Les exemples 1 à 3 (préparés à partir de PVC en poudre) montrent l'influence favorable de l'augmentation de la teneur en fibres cellulosiques sur les propriétés physiques, et en particulier la rigidité.
- La présence d'un agent plastifiant a un effet bénéfique en ce qui concerne la souplesse.
- L'association de fibres de verre aux fibres cellulosiques (exemples 6-7 et 11) améliore la stabilité dimensionnelle à l'état humide.
- D'une manière générale, le traitement de surface du stade 2) est bénéfique vis-à-vis de la résistance au pliage. Plus précisément, les feuilles des exemples 7 et 11-14 ne présentent pas de cassure après des pliages répétés ; elles peuvent être utilisées comme support de base pour la réalisation de revêtement de sols en grande laize (4 m).
- Toutes les feuilles obtenues ont une bonne aptitude au thermoformage : il est donc notamment avantageux de les utiliser pour le thermoformage des récipients destinés à contenir des produits alimentaires tels que notamment les produits laitiers (yaourt, beurre, fromage blanc, etc.) et la mayonnaise.
- Enfin, ces feuilles peuvent être déchiquetées puis granulées pour donner lieu par extrusion, injection à des produits plastiques armés de fibres cellulosiques.
