Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, in which the material is introduced into a die, by means of continuous strokes of a punch in a die-flow channel against a section built up by a section of the strand already compacted there Frictional resistance is compressed, pushed under the pressure of the compression stroke in the die flow channel, sintered with heating by electric currents and extruded through a mouthpiece attached to the end of the flow channel.
- the invention further relates to a device for carrying out a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, in particular for carrying out a method of the type mentioned at the outset, with a die which has a die passageway for pushing the material through, with a plunger for compacting and pushing the material in the passageway and for pressing out the strand of material via a mouthpiece attached to the end of the die, and with a device for Heating of the material in the flow channel through electrical currents.
- a method according to the preamble of claim 1 is known (German specification No. 27 33 009), in which the powder-metallurgical material to be processed is continuously extruded in a die, within a certain range in which the sintering of the compacted material take place should, the material is heated by induction.
- the inductive eddy currents generated in the process for heating the already compacted strand of material however, mainly lead to the heating of the metallic dies used and are only generated to a small extent on the surface of the conductor strand.
- the heating of the entire strand required for sintering thus takes place essentially purely by heat conduction from the die or from the outer surface of the strand into the interior of the strand.
- induction heating is also limited to the location where the electromagnetic field of the inductive heating system acts on the line. Furthermore, a fairly large space requirement is provided for the relatively complex induction heating.
- inductive heaters are also not for all electrically conductive materials can be used, but only for those that can be magnetized.
- the object of the invention is to improve a method of the type mentioned at the outset so that, in its application, processing of all electrically conductive materials is possible, heating of the strand located in the die, which is more uniform than that of inductive heating, can be carried out across all conductor cross sections and, in addition, increasing heating of the strand of material with decreasing degree of compaction can be achieved, at the same time keeping the outlay on equipment particularly low.
- the object on which the invention is based is achieved in a method according to the preamble of patent claim 1 in that the heating for sintering is carried out along the entire material located between the punch and the mouthpiece in the die through-channel by generating a current flowing in this section of material and directed in the longitudinal direction of the strand becomes.
- a directed current flow is generated within the strand of material in the die, which flows across all conductor cross sections in the longitudinal direction of the strand and thereby also heats internal conductor cross sections with ease. In this way, very uniform heating can be achieved across all conductor cross-sections for every electrically conductive material.
- the invention makes use of the knowledge that electrically conductive materials such as metals, metalloids or so-called "second class conductors" (eg graphite) have a significantly increasing electrical resistance with decreasing density. This is due to the fact that, as the density decreases, the contact points of neighboring particles become smaller and the flow of current increases a higher resistance is opposed. The losses that occur are almost exclusively converted into thermal energy. Taking advantage of this knowledge, the method according to the invention exploits the possibility of compressing the powder metallurgy products used under pressure and at the same time acting temperature in such a way that the highest strengths can be achieved for the strand produced.
- second class conductors eg graphite
- the method according to the invention allows the increasing inherent resistance of electrically conductive materials with decreasing density to be exploited for the self-heating of the materials, taking advantage of the high thermal compressive strength of ceramics and their electrical insulation properties.
- the temperature within the compacted strand drops sharply from the pressure ram to the mouthpiece because the highest compression is already present in the area of the mouthpiece and at the same time there is excellent contact closure.
- a very strong self-heating is generated precisely within this material to be compacted during the pressing process and thus enables sintering under pressure, which leads to the remarkable strength properties of the process produced according to the invention Stranges leads.
- a particularly simple way of generating the desired directed current flow within the tool strand in the die is achieved in that the current flow in the material is generated by applying a voltage between the mouthpiece and the punch.
- the flow of current can be initiated and terminated automatically at the beginning or end of the compression stroke at the same time with only a small outlay in terms of equipment when moving the plunger up and down.
- the current flow is not triggered simultaneously with the first contact of the pressure stamp with the material to be compressed, which is located at the top of the die, but only when the stamp is already approximately on each compression stroke has covered half of its maximum compression path. This prevents the powder from burning on the contacts (stamp, mouthpiece), for example due to a sparkover.
- the current flow is interrupted either at the end of each compression stroke or, sometimes particularly preferably, only for an adjustable period of time after the compression stroke has ended.
- a voltage of 2 to 5 volts is used as the voltage for the heating current, which voltage can be transformed down from the usual mains voltage without difficulty while simultaneously increasing the current flow.
- the flow of flow be switched on only after the compression stroke has started and only switched off after the compression stroke has ended. It is advantageous if the duration of the time periods between switching on the current flow and beginning of the compression stroke and / or switching off the current flow and end of the compression stroke can be set.
- the point in time at which the current flow is switched on depends on a representative value for the degree of compression of the material below the stamp, that is to say the material between the stamp and the upper end of the already compacted one, which is located in the die passage Strange is set: when using the upper punch as a counter contact, it is recommended, for example, to switch on the electrical current first, when the material to be compressed has reached approximately 50% of the achievable density.
- Another advantageous possibility for adapting the method according to the invention to the special circumstances of the individual case is that the speed of the stamp or the strength of the current flow through the material is changed in a controlled manner during the compression stroke. If one changes the strength of the current flow, then the current flow is preferably increased with increasing stroke of the stamp.
- the device according to the invention is based on a device for continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, with a die which has a die through-channel for pushing through the material, further with a punch for compacting and pushing the material in the through-channel and for Pressing the strand of material through a mouthpiece attached to the end of the die, and with a device for heating the material in the through-channel by means of electrical currents.
- the stamp and the mouthpiece are connected to the poles of a voltage source for heating the material in the flow channel and the wall of the flow channel consists of an electrically non-conductive material.
- a switching device is preferably provided, by means of which the electrical voltage can only be applied to the plunger and the mouthpiece after the start of the compression stroke. Furthermore, it is recommended that the material of the wall of the flow channel consists of a ceramic material, preferably silicon nitride or aluminum oxide.
- the device according to the invention is preferably provided with a stamp consisting of a centrally arranged central mandrel and an upper stamp which is movable and arranged around it and which is intended to compress the material in the die, the upper stamp consisting of electrically conductive material and with is connected to the one pole of a voltage source, while the central mandrel has a wall made of electrically non-conductive material along the region that comes into contact with the strand of material in the flow channel. This achieves electrical insulation of the central mandrel with high inherent strength under temperature.
- the rest of the central mandrel is preferably made of steel, this steel core should be equipped with additional cooling approximately radially inside the ceramic sleeve to maintain the inherent strength of the central mandrel.
- the upper punch here represents the counter contact required for the current flow.
- the upper punch is preferably attached to an intermediate plate, which in turn is supported on a head plate connected to the central mandrel with the interposition of an elasticity.
- the elasticity between the top plate and the intermediate plate has plate springs whose contact surfaces on the intermediate plate are made of thin-walled, electrically non- conductive sleeves exist. It is essential that electrical insulation between the top plate and intermediate plate is always maintained.
- the top plate and intermediate plate are held in a relaxed state at a certain stroke distance, the spring force preferably being designed so that after approx. 30% of the maximum stroke distance the required pressing force for the annular cross section is reached and then up to a maximum of 1 Can increase 5 times the calculated compression pressure.
- the non-conductive wall of the central mandrel is made shorter than the length of the area of contact between the central mandrel and the material and the central mandrel can in turn be connected to the corresponding pole of the voltage source after the current supply has been switched off by the upper punch.
- the central mandrel can be switched as a current-carrying pole after the current supply to the upper punch has been switched off.
- This has the advantage that a current still flows in the already compacted material and a corresponding heating takes place.
- the amplitude of the likely sinusoidal temperature profile is somewhat weakened during the pressing process.
- guides for the relative movement of the two plates relative to one another are provided between the head plate and the intermediate plate. These guides preferably consist of (hardened) steel bolts fastened to the head plate, which extend through the thin-walled sleeves fitted in the intermediate plate. Again, it is essential that the electrical insulation between the head plate and intermediate plate is always maintained despite the guides and the interposed elasticity.
- Another device is based on a device for carrying out a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, with a die which has a through-channel for pushing through the material, with a punch for compacting and pushing the material in the through-channel and for pressing out the material strand via a mouthpiece arranged at the end of the die, and with a device for heating the material in the through-channel by means of electrical currents.
- the wall of the flow channel again consists of an electrically conductive material, in which a ring made of electrically conductive material is embedded in the central region of the wall length, the inner ring surface of which is flush with the inner surface of the die flow channel, this ring with the one and the mouthpiece are connected to the other pole of a voltage source.
- a filling plate 1 can be seen, which is arranged above a die with a die passage channel 2.
- This flow channel 2 is surrounded by a wall 3 (die) made of an electrically non-conductive, preferably ceramic material, which is held and supported radially from the outside by a support wall 6.
- a mouthpiece 4 (calibration mouthpiece) is inserted, which has a calibration opening that tapers somewhat radially inwards.
- a support ring 5 serves to absorb the forces acting on the mouthpiece 4 during the squeezing process.
- a stamp 8 is provided, which is used to compress the material 7 in the die flow channel 2 from above.
- the stamp 8 and the mouthpiece 4 (not shown in FIG. 1) are connected to the poles of a power source (also not shown).
- the upper punch is thus used as a counter contact, the electrical current only being switched on when the material to be compressed has reached approximately 50% of the achievable density.
- the punch 8 is withdrawn again upwards, thereby interrupting the flow of current in the material 7 located within the die flow channel 2, filling new granules into the die from above via the filling plate and then returning the punch 8 to the die Carrying out a new compression stroke moved down.
- FIG. 2 shows a device with which the continuous production of tubular bodies is possible.
- a filling plate 1 is again provided, to which a die is connected with a die passage channel 2, which in turn is surrounded by an electrically non-conductive die 3, which in turn is supported radially on the outside via a support wall 6.
- a mouthpiece 4 made of electrically conductive material is provided, which is connected to a pole of a voltage source (not shown).
- a support ring 5 supports the mouthpiece 4 axially outwards.
- a stamp arrangement is provided in the embodiment shown here, which consists of a central mandrel 8a and an upper stamp 8b radially surrounding it and displaceable relative to the central mandrel 8a.
- the upper punch 8b is fastened to an intermediate plate 10, while the central mandrel 8a extends upwards through the intermediate plate 10 and is fastened further to a head plate 9.
- existing hardened steel guide bolts 13 are screwed in via thread 14. These guide bolts 13 serve to guide the intermediate plate during a movement relative to the head plate, furthermore disc springs 11 are arranged around the guide bolts 13, through the head plate 9 and intermediate plate 10 at a certain stroke distance from one another being held.
- the spring force is designed so that after about 30% of the possible stroke between intermediate plate 10 and top plate 9, the required pressing force for the annular cross-section is reached and, with full indentation of the possible stroke, rise up to a maximum of 1.5 times the calculated compression pressure can.
- the electrical separation required between the head plate 9 and the intermediate plate 10 is achieved in that an electrically non-conductive, thin-walled support sleeve 12 is pressed in between the guide sleeves 20 and the intermediate plate 10. With a relative movement of the head plate 9 to the intermediate plate 10, each guide pin 13 can slide within the ball sleeves 20, whereby an accurate guidance of the two plates to one another is ensured.
- the central mandrel 8a is made of steel, but is surrounded by a ceramic sleeve 15 within the sintering and compression area of the material in the die. This achieves electrical insulation with high inherent strength under temperature.
- the steel core 16 within the ceramic sleeve 15 can be equipped with additional cooling to maintain its inherent strength, for which purpose any conventional, suitable cooling is suitable.
- the counter contact for the current flow in this device is the upper punch 8b, which is fastened to the movably arranged intermediate plate and can be connected to a pole of a voltage source.
- the usual mains voltage of 220 volts is reduced to a value between 2 and 5 volts while a high current is flowing (principle of a welding transformer).
- a high current is flowing (principle of a welding transformer).
- the current flow is released in each case, thereby preventing the powder from burning on the contacts as a result of arcing.
- the central mandrel 8a and the upper punch 8b can alternately be kept live, but this requires a corresponding shortening of the ceramic sleeve 15 of the central mandrel 8a so that after the current supply of the upper punch 8b has been switched off, the central mandrel 8a can actually be switched as a current-carrying pole.
- a ring 21 embedded in the die is used instead of a current-carrying upper punch 8 or 8b, as shown in broken lines in FIG.
- This ring 21 is then connected via a suitable connection 22 to one pole of a voltage source, with the other pole of which the mouthpiece 4 is connected.
- the ring 21 is preferably attached approximately at half the height of the die 3 in order to ensure a continuous flow of current within the material strand section still remaining in the die even when the upper die 8b or 8 moves out of the die, i.e. the height of the ring 21 within the die 3 should be selected so that there is always conductive contact with the part of the material strand remaining in the die, even when the upper punch 8b is extended.

The invention relates to a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, in which the material is introduced into a die, by means of continuous strokes of a punch in a die-flow channel against a section built up by a section of the strand already compacted there Frictional resistance is compressed, pushed under the pressure of the compression stroke in the die flow channel, sintered with heating by electric currents and extruded through a mouthpiece attached to the end of the flow channel. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, in particular for carrying out a method of the type mentioned at the outset, with a die which has a die passageway for pushing the material through, with a plunger for compacting and pushing the material in the passageway and for pressing out the strand of material via a mouthpiece attached to the end of the die, and with a device for Heating of the material in the flow channel through electrical currents.
A method according to the preamble of
The object on which the invention is based is achieved in a method according to the preamble of
A particularly simple way of generating the desired directed current flow within the tool strand in the die is achieved in that the current flow in the material is generated by applying a voltage between the mouthpiece and the punch. As a result, the flow of current can be initiated and terminated automatically at the beginning or end of the compression stroke at the same time with only a small outlay in terms of equipment when moving the plunger up and down. Advantageously, however, the current flow is not triggered simultaneously with the first contact of the pressure stamp with the material to be compressed, which is located at the top of the die, but only when the stamp is already approximately on each compression stroke has covered half of its maximum compression path. This prevents the powder from burning on the contacts (stamp, mouthpiece), for example due to a sparkover. It is also advantageous if the current flow is interrupted either at the end of each compression stroke or, sometimes particularly preferably, only for an adjustable period of time after the compression stroke has ended. In this way it can be achieved that current flows for a certain period of time in the already compacted material even after the compression stroke has ended, and corresponding heating takes place as a result. Advantageously, a voltage of 2 to 5 volts is used as the voltage for the heating current, which voltage can be transformed down from the usual mains voltage without difficulty while simultaneously increasing the current flow.
In order to be able to adapt the method according to the invention to a very special degree to specific conditions of the individual case, it may be recommended that the flow of flow be switched on only after the compression stroke has started and only switched off after the compression stroke has ended. It is advantageous if the duration of the time periods between switching on the current flow and beginning of the compression stroke and / or switching off the current flow and end of the compression stroke can be set. In some cases, it is even particularly advantageous if the point in time at which the current flow is switched on depends on a representative value for the degree of compression of the material below the stamp, that is to say the material between the stamp and the upper end of the already compacted one, which is located in the die passage Strange is set: when using the upper punch as a counter contact, it is recommended, for example, to switch on the electrical current first, when the material to be compressed has reached approximately 50% of the achievable density.
Another advantageous possibility for adapting the method according to the invention to the special circumstances of the individual case is that the speed of the stamp or the strength of the current flow through the material is changed in a controlled manner during the compression stroke. If one changes the strength of the current flow, then the current flow is preferably increased with increasing stroke of the stamp.
When using the method according to the invention, it is thus possible to produce electrically conductive materials whose sintering temperatures are far above the temperatures which have been achievable up to now: also produce iron materials with sintering temperatures in the range of approximately 1150 ° C. from powder metallurgical materials by the process according to the invention in a continuous extrusion process.
The device according to the invention is based on a device for continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, with a die which has a die through-channel for pushing through the material, further with a punch for compacting and pushing the material in the through-channel and for Pressing the strand of material through a mouthpiece attached to the end of the die, and with a device for heating the material in the through-channel by means of electrical currents. According to the invention, the stamp and the mouthpiece are connected to the poles of a voltage source for heating the material in the flow channel and the wall of the flow channel consists of an electrically non-conductive material. A switching device is preferably provided, by means of which the electrical voltage can only be applied to the plunger and the mouthpiece after the start of the compression stroke. Furthermore, it is recommended that the material of the wall of the flow channel consists of a ceramic material, preferably silicon nitride or aluminum oxide. These preferred configurations of the device according to the invention enable a particularly simple implementation of the device and thereby create a device which allows the method according to the invention to be carried out with little effort and thus particularly economically. For the production of hollow strands, the device according to the invention is preferably provided with a stamp consisting of a centrally arranged central mandrel and an upper stamp which is movable and arranged around it and which is intended to compress the material in the die, the upper stamp consisting of electrically conductive material and with is connected to the one pole of a voltage source, while the central mandrel has a wall made of electrically non-conductive material along the region that comes into contact with the strand of material in the flow channel. This achieves electrical insulation of the central mandrel with high inherent strength under temperature. The rest of the central mandrel is preferably made of steel, this steel core should be equipped with additional cooling approximately radially inside the ceramic sleeve to maintain the inherent strength of the central mandrel. The upper punch here represents the counter contact required for the current flow. The upper punch is preferably attached to an intermediate plate, which in turn is supported on a head plate connected to the central mandrel with the interposition of an elasticity. Advantageously, the elasticity between the top plate and the intermediate plate has plate springs whose contact surfaces on the intermediate plate are made of thin-walled, electrically non- conductive sleeves exist. It is essential that electrical insulation between the top plate and intermediate plate is always maintained. Due to the elasticity, the top plate and intermediate plate are held in a relaxed state at a certain stroke distance, the spring force preferably being designed so that after approx. 30% of the maximum stroke distance the required pressing force for the annular cross section is reached and then up to a maximum of 1 Can increase 5 times the calculated compression pressure. In a further advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the non-conductive wall of the central mandrel is made shorter than the length of the area of contact between the central mandrel and the material and the central mandrel can in turn be connected to the corresponding pole of the voltage source after the current supply has been switched off by the upper punch. When producing such tubular cross sections, it is conceivable to keep the central mandrel and the upper punch alternately live. By appropriately shortening the ceramic sleeve in the die, the central mandrel can be switched as a current-carrying pole after the current supply to the upper punch has been switched off. This has the advantage that a current still flows in the already compacted material and a corresponding heating takes place. At the same time, the amplitude of the likely sinusoidal temperature profile is somewhat weakened during the pressing process. Furthermore, in such a device according to the invention, guides for the relative movement of the two plates relative to one another are provided between the head plate and the intermediate plate.
Another device according to the invention is based on a device for carrying out a method for the continuous extrusion of electrically conductive, granulated, preferably powder-metallurgical materials, with a die which has a through-channel for pushing through the material, with a punch for compacting and pushing the material in the through-channel and for pressing out the material strand via a mouthpiece arranged at the end of the die, and with a device for heating the material in the through-channel by means of electrical currents. According to the invention, the wall of the flow channel again consists of an electrically conductive material, in which a ring made of electrically conductive material is embedded in the central region of the wall length, the inner ring surface of which is flush with the inner surface of the die flow channel, this ring with the one and the mouthpiece are connected to the other pole of a voltage source. By suitable selection of the height of this ring within the die, special heating conditions can also be achieved in the compacted metal powder, if this is desired.

- Figure 2 shows an inventive device for producing a hollow strand.
In the device according to FIG. 1, a filling
Furthermore, a stamp 8 is provided, which is used to compress the material 7 in the
Ein Stützring 5 stützt das Mundstück 4 axial nach außen ab.FIG. 2 shows a device with which the continuous production of tubular bodies is possible. In this case, a filling
Instead of the single pressure stamp 8 used in FIG. 1, a stamp arrangement is provided in the embodiment shown here, which consists of a
The
- An annular part corresponding to the outlet cross-section between the mouthpiece 4 and the
central mandrel 8a is first loosely inserted into the die assembly, then granulated material is fed in via the fillingplate 1 and discontinuously compacted until the originally introduced ring is ejected as a so-called "lost head". Thereafter, the mouthpiece 4 on the one hand and theupper punch 8b on the other hand are connected to the two poles of a power source, the following process taking place: - In the initially cold-compressed material with a relatively low inherent resistance, the current flows from the mouthpiece 4 to the upper part of the material strand located in the die, where there is only a slight heap of powder. During the downward stroke, the
central mandrel 8a, which is conical at its end and closed with anut 17, is relieved, which is first led downward, after which the material is then compressed via theupper punch 8b, while at the same time theupper punch 8b becomes live. During this compression process, the originally high electrical resistance is reduced in the slowly compressed powder, with a corresponding conversion of the current into heat taking place at the same time. Furthermore, however, a temperature gradient can still be detected, since the compression of the extruded tube towards the mouthpiece 4 increases. While theupper punch 8b now simultaneously executes a parallel movement with thecentral mandrel 8a for further compression of the material 7 or for pushing out the strand of material in thedie 2, post-compression takes place from the outside via the mouthpiece 4. At the same time, the Pressure of thesprings 11 until the maximum stroke is reached. In the subsequent relief process, the pressure of thesprings 11 first decreases, which ensures that the pipe can be calibrated in the die from the inside. At the same time, however, the pressure of theupper punch 8b is still on the strand. If the two punches are slowly moved up again, then only the last mandrel 8 before thesprings 11 are completely relieved of any movement of thecentral mandrel 8a alone, while theupper punch 8b is no longer in contact with the pressed strand. The refilling process begins at this glance.
In this way it is ensured that tearing apart of the strand during the different relative movements of the
In this process, the usual mains voltage of 220 volts is reduced to a value between 2 and 5 volts while a high current is flowing (principle of a welding transformer). After about 50% of the compression path, the current flow is released in each case, thereby preventing the powder from burning on the contacts as a result of arcing. However, the
In another embodiment of a device according to the invention, a
