Definitions
- the invention relates to an arrangement for adapting the impact energy of a printing type in type plate printers to the size of the character line length.
- Such an arrangement has the purpose of producing a uniform impression for different characters which differ in the size or length of the character line. So z. B. a point cannot be printed more than the character &. However, this means that the pressure energy per unit area of the drawing line must be the same in both cases. In other words, less impact energy is to be used for the imprint of a point than for the imprint of the character &.
- a certain amount of impact energy is therefore required for the optimal imprint of a character.
- This energy is provided in the form of kinetic energy.
- the invention has for its object to provide an arrangement for adapting the impact energy of a printing type in type plate printers to the size or length of the character line length, which is simple and inexpensive to implement.
- Type plates are either carved out of a metal plate, molded from plastic material or assembled from metal fingers.
- the type fingers act as leaf springs and already absorb a small part of the kinetic energy of the hammer on their way to the recording medium driven by the pressure hammer.
- the proportion that is removed from the actual printing process in this way can also be controlled by the fact that the individual type fingers an additional spring stiffness is given depending on the signs attached to them. This is done in that a further spring washer 5 is attached in front of the type plate 1 in the direction of the recording medium, the spring fingers of which influence the stiffness of the individual type plate finger in the desired manner.
- the type plate 1 consists of a piece of a resilient material suitable for the printing process. It has a plurality of fingers 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, etc, pointing radially outwards. At the end of these fingers, the type characters 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, etc., which create the impression, are arranged.
- the type plate shown in Fig. 1 is that of a so-called front printer. It has to be imagined that at an azimuthal printing position, for example, a printing hammer located behind the finger 2-2 moves this finger in the printing direction, that is, out of the plane of the drawing, with the type 3-2 on the record carrier, not shown, lying above the drawing plane Imprint generated.
- the type plate 1 arranged on an axis 4 can be driven either intermittently or continuously rotating.
- An additional spring washer 5, preferably made of spring steel sheet, is arranged on this axis 4.
- This spring washer 5 also has individual fingers on its outer part like the type disk 1.
- the division of the fingers of the spring washer 5 corresponds to the division of the fingers on the type plate 1.
- the spring washer 5 is fastened to the type plate 1 in such a way that a finger of the type plate 1 is aligned with a finger of the spring washer 5.
- This attachment can be done in a conventional manner: z. B. by riveting.
- Type and spring washer can through a screw fixation (Fig. 2) on the axis 4.
- the fingers of the spring washer 5 are of different lengths depending on the size or length of the drawing line of the character on the fingers of the type disk 1 assigned to them. In this way, kinetic energy is absorbed by the spring finger 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 when the type disk finger is actuated by the printing hammer during the movement of the character type to the recording medium, so that the impact energy of the printing type can be controlled in this way.
- a long spring finger 5-3 would absorb a lot of energy so that the impact energy for rendering point 3-2 is reduced to a large extent, since the character print area of the point is very small.
- the spring finger 5-1 of the type plate finger 2-1 which bears this symbol &, must be designed to be correspondingly short. This ensures that this spring finger 5-1 absorbs little kinetic energy during the movement. It can be assumed that the print hammer is excited with the same amount of energy regardless of the character to be printed. According to these principles, the individual feather fingers must have a length that is matched to the size or length of the character line of the character to be printed.
- the spring finger must be long in order to absorb a lot of kinetic energy; if the character line length or character imprint area is larger, the spring finger must be shorter in order to draw less or no kinetic energy from the opening process.
- the character string in FIG. 1 is chosen arbitrarily and only serves to make the principle of the invention understandable. Other embodiments of the invention are conceivable.
- the additional spring washer could be cast into an elastic hub.
- the spring washer can also be attached to the type plate by means of an adhesive or solder connection.
Abstract
Type plate printer in which the type plate (1) is assigned a spring washer (5) with the same pitch. When a type (3-1,3-2,3-3) located on the finger (2-1, 2-2, 2-3) of the type disk (1) is struck, this finger is pressed against the spring force of the fingers assigned to it ( 5-1, 5-2 5-3) of the spring washer (5). The fingers (5-1,5-2,5-3) of the spring washer (5) have a different length, so that the same impression strengths are achieved for the different characters.
Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for adapting the impact energy of a printing type in type plate printers to the size of the character line length.
So soll z. Such an arrangement has the purpose of producing a uniform impression for different characters which differ in the size or length of the character line. So z. B. a point cannot be printed more than the character &. However, this means that the pressure energy per unit area of the drawing line must be the same in both cases. In other words, less impact energy is to be used for the imprint of a point than for the imprint of the character &.
A certain amount of impact energy is therefore required for the optimal imprint of a character. This energy is provided in the form of kinetic energy.
- 1. The energy supply to the print hammer is controlled.
- 2. -Excess kinetic energy is taken from the print hammer driving the print type.
In IBM TDB Vol. 19, No. 8, January 1977 a type plate printer is described in which the impact energy is controlled via the energy supply for the print hammer in such a way that the pulse duration of the excitation current for the hammer magnet is varied by a microprocessor.
In IBM TDB Vol. 19, No. 2, July 1976, an arrangement is described in which the adjustment of the impact energy a print type to the size of the character line length is carried out by an energy-absorbing element which is arranged between the print hammer and the type disc finger bearing the print character.
The invention has for its object to provide an arrangement for adapting the impact energy of a printing type in type plate printers to the size or length of the character line length, which is simple and inexpensive to implement.
This object of the invention is achieved in an advantageous manner by the measures specified in the characterizing part of
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings and will be described in more detail below.

- Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the arrangement of FIG. 1 along the section line AA, taking into account the drive shaft for the type plate.
Type plates are either carved out of a metal plate, molded from plastic material or assembled from metal fingers. The type fingers act as leaf springs and already absorb a small part of the kinetic energy of the hammer on their way to the recording medium driven by the pressure hammer. The proportion that is removed from the actual printing process in this way can also be controlled by the fact that the individual type fingers an additional spring stiffness is given depending on the signs attached to them. This is done in that a further spring washer 5 is attached in front of the
The
The type plate shown in Fig.
For the printing process, the
In contrast, a correspondingly higher impact energy is required for the imprint of the character & with a character line that is significantly larger than the dot area. Accordingly, the spring finger 5-1 of the type plate finger 2-1, which bears this symbol &, must be designed to be correspondingly short. If the character line length or character imprint area is small, the spring finger must be long in order to absorb a lot of kinetic energy; if the character line length or character imprint area is larger, the spring finger must be shorter in order to draw less or no kinetic energy from the opening process.
The character string in FIG. 1 is chosen arbitrarily and only serves to make the principle of the invention understandable. Other embodiments of the invention are conceivable.
For type washers, which are composed of individual metal fingers, the additional spring washer could be cast into an elastic hub. In the case of the one-piece type plate, the spring washer can also be attached to the type plate by means of an adhesive or solder connection.
- a) when using such type plate printers in word processing systems for writing individual letters, a representative optimal print image can be maintained. The print quality is very accommodating to the adaptation of the printing energy to the individual character.
- b) the proposed solution also allows a simple transition to another font by replacing the type plate with the associated spring washer. (In the case of a solution controlled by microprocessors, the microprocessor program would also have to be changed when changing from one character set to another. Operating errors cannot be ruled out here.)
- c) it should count among the simplest and cheapest solutions due to the simple and uncomplicated construction.
