Description

  • The present invention relates to a device for dispensing pasty substances.
  • It relates more particularly to a device for the adjustable proportion distribution of two pasty substances contained separately inside a deformable tube provided with an outlet orifice.
  • In the sense in which it is currently used, the term “pasty substance” designates the pastes, creams, gels and other substances of the same kind usually contained in deformable tubes.
  • There are certain applications where it is desirable to be able to distribute in adjustable proportion two pasty substances contained separately inside a deformable tube.
  • This is the case, for example, of sunscreen products which, in addition to a pasty excipient, such as a cream, also contain a pasty active substance playing the role of a solar filter, the proportion of which should be modified relative to the excipient depending conditions of use of the product.
  • Devices have already been proposed for the distribution in adjustable proportion of two pasty substances contained inside a deformable tube.
  • A device of this kind is described in patent FR-A-2 054 783 and comprises on the one hand shirts delimiting inside the flexible packaging tube to which they are fixed, two compartments, and having windows which are uncovered by the rotation of one of the two shirts and on the other hand a ball movable about a horizontal axis.
  • These prior devices have the main drawback of having a complex structure, which results in a high manufacturing cost for products intended to be discarded after use, and often necessitating a more or less significant modification of the outlet orifice of the tube on which they rode. In addition, these devices do not ensure effective sealing of the tube after use.
  • A closure device for tubes or the like is described in patent FR-A-2 137 882. This device consists of a threaded cap provided with an internal thread which is screwed onto the tube and by a closure piece which is movable in the cap and is characterized in that the closure piece, essentially having the shape of a short cylinder, is provided with a borehole, the two openings of which are located on opposite sides of the mantle face, while the obturator piece can rotate, in a cutout of the threaded cap, between two end positions limited by stops, while the lateral parts of the threaded cap extend beyond the center of the obturator piece. In one of the two end positions, one of the mouths of the borehole is released and the other mouth communicates with the central bore of the threaded cap, while in the other end position, the two mouths of the borehole are covered by counter corresponding faces of the threaded cap, so that the opening of the inner bore of the cap is covered by the cylindrical mantle face of the closure part.
  • The main drawback of such a device is that it is difficult to adapt to known devices for distributing two pasty substances in adjustable proportion. The present invention aims to avoid the above drawbacks by proposing a dispensing device of the aforementioned type which is of simple construction, which does not require modification of the outlet orifice of the tube on which it is intended to be mounted, and which also allows effective sealing of the tube after use. More particularly, the present invention relates to a device for the distribution in adjustable proportion of two pasty substances contained separately inside a deformable tube provided with an outlet orifice, the device comprising an adaptable nozzle on the outlet orifice of the tube to define two chambers inside the tube capable of containing the two pasty substances and two corresponding outlets opening onto an outlet surface of the nozzle; a distributor mounted pivoting about an axis on the nozzle, the surface of the distributor sweeping the outlet surface of the nozzle, the distributor having one or two through passages opening at one of their ends by a section of entry into the surface of the dispenser and opening at their other end through a common outlet orifice, the inlet section or sections of the dispenser more or less releasing one of the two outlets from the outlet surface of the nozzle according to the position pivoting valve.
  • The device of the invention is characterized in that the distributor is pivotally mounted about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the outlet of the tube between two extreme positions, that the common outlet of the dispenser ends with a cannula which, in one of the two extreme positions of the distributor, is closed by an extension of the nozzle and that the surface of the distributor and the surface of the nozzle are cylindrical and ensure a sealed contact between them.
  • The dispenser of the device of the invention advantageously comprises a cylinder in which the through passage (s) are formed in a substantially radial manner, the cannula projecting radially with respect to the cylinder.
  • In a first embodiment of the invention, the two exits from the surface of outlet of the nozzle are disposed adjacent to each other in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the distributor and the distributor then has two through passages, the inlet sections of which are disposed adjacent in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the distributor.
  • In this first embodiment, one of the outputs of the nozzle has a larger opening than the other to allow it to be in communication with the corresponding inlet section of the distributor over a range of position of the distributor for which the other input section more or less releases the corresponding output.
  • In a second embodiment of the invention, the two outlets from the outlet surface of the endpiece are disposed adjacent in a substantially orthogonal direction. Relative to the axis of rotation of the distributor and the distributor comprises a single crossing passage.
  • In this second embodiment of the invention, the inlet section of the through passage of the dispenser has a sufficient opening to allow it to simultaneously release the two outlets from the surface of the nozzle.
  • Other characteristics and advantages of the invention are better understood on reading the description which follows, with regard to two embodiments of the invention, and with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
    • Figure 1 is a sectional view along a plane passing through the axis of rotation of the distributor, of a device of the invention according to the first embodiment mentioned above, wherein the distributor has two through passages;
    • Figure 2 is a sectional view taken along the line II-II of Figure 1;
    • Figure 3 is a view similar to that of Figure 2, wherein the dispenser is in the closed position;
    • Figure 4 is a top view of the tip of the device of Figures 1 to 3, in which the dispenser has been removed;
    • Figure 5 is a bottom view of the tip of Figure 4;
    • Figure 6 is a rear view of the dispenser along the arrow F of Figure 3;
    • Figures 7 to 9 illustrate different relative positions of the distributor and the nozzle;
    • Figure 10 is a partial sectional view, taken along a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the distributor of a device according to the second embodiment of the invention, in which the distributor has only a single through passage ;
    • Figure 11 shows a top view of the tip of the device of Figure 10, in which the dispenser has been removed; and
    • FIG. 12 is a rear view of the dispenser of the device in FIG. 10.
  • Reference will now be made to FIGS. 1 to 9 illustrating a device according to the first embodiment of the invention.
  • The device shown in Figures 1 to 3 comprises a deformable tube 10, made for example of a metallic material or a plastic material and provided with an outlet orifice 12 externally threaded. On the threaded orifice 12 of the tube 10 is screwed a tip 14 affecting a generally cylindrical outer shape. The end piece 14 comprises a tube 16 plunging inside the tube, the lower end 18 of which reaches a determined height relative to the bottom of the tube (not shown) and the upper end of which leads to an outlet 20 an outlet surface of the end piece 14 which has a cylindrical profile with an XY axis (cf. FIG. 1), this XY axis being in the plane of FIG. 1 and perpendicular to the plane of FIGS. 2 and 3.
  • The tubing 16 has a circular inner section which, at a small distance below the outlet orifice 20, begins to widen to form an oblong outlet, the length L of which corresponds substantially to twice the internal diameter of the tubing. 16 and whose width / corresponds to the internal diameter of the tube 16 (cf. FIGS. 1 to 4).
  • The end piece 14 further comprises an interior passage 22 adjacent to the tubing 18, the lower end 24 of which reaches the level of the upper end of the frustoconical part 26 of the tube 10 which connects the body of the tube to the orifice of outlet 12. The upper end of the passage 22 opens into another outlet 28, adjacent to the outlet 20, from the outlet surface of the end piece 14. The passage 22 narrows upward and the outlet 28 has a triangular shape elongated whose great height H is parallel to the greatest length of the outlet 20 (cf. FIG. 4). In the drawing in FIG. 4, the height H of the outlet 28 corresponds substantially to 3/4 of the length L of the outlet 20.
  • The tube 10 contains a first pasty substance 30 filling the tube 10 from the bottom to level 32 of the lower end 18 of the tubing 16. The tube 10 further contains a second pasty substance 34 filling the peripheral chamber defined at l inside the tube 10 around the tube 16 and above the level 32.
  • When pressure is exerted on the deformable tube 10, the first pasty substance 30 tends to be extruded from the tube by the tube 16, while the second pasty substance 34 tends to be extruded simultaneously from the tube through passage 22.
  • The proportion of the mixture of pasty substances 30 and 34 is obtained by a distributor 36 comprising a cylinder 38 pivotally mounted inside a housing 40 formed in the nozzle 14 around the aforementioned axis XY and the cylindrical inner wall of which comprises the outlet surface of the nozzle.
  • The distributor 36 can pivot by approximately 1/4 of a turn between two extreme positions shown respectively in FIGS. 2 and 3. For this purpose, the end piece 14 includes a material removal on an angle sector a of approximately 90 ° (see Figure 2). In the position of Figures 1 and 2, the dispenser is in the fully open position while in the position of Figure 3, it is in the closed position. Between these two extreme positions, a cylindrical surface of the cylinder 38 of the distributor 36 scans the outlet surface of the aforementioned nozzle, ensuring tight contact between the distributor and the nozzle.
  • The distributor 36 has a through passage 42 opening through an inlet section 44 into the aforementioned cylindrical surface of the distributor. The through passage 42 and the inlet section 44 have a circular section equal to the inner circular section of the tube 16. The distributor 36 further comprises another through passage 46 opening out through an inlet section 48 adjacent to the section d inlet 44. The inlet section 48 has a rectangular interior shape (cf. FIG. 6) and the through passage 46 gradually widens to join the through passage 42 and form a single channel ending in a common outlet cannula 50 This cannula 50 is directed radially with respect to the pivot axis XY of the distributor 36 and has an opening 52 of rectangular internal section (cf. FIG. 6).
  • The inlet sections 44 and 48 of the through passages 42 and 46 of the distributor 36 are intended to cooperate respectively with the outlets 20 and 28 of the nozzle 14.
  • In the closed position (see FIG. 3), the distributor 36 is oriented with its cannula 50 substantially perpendicular to the axis of the orifice 12, the opening 52 of the cannula 50 being closed by an extension 54 of the end piece 14. In this position, the outlets 20 and 28 of the end piece are completely closed by the cylinder 38 of the distributor 36. By gradually rotating the distributor 36 around the axis XY, the distributor arrives in a position corresponding to that of FIG. 7 where the inlet section 44 of the through passage 42 is completely supplied by the outlet 20 of the pipe 16 and where the inlet section 48 of the through passage 46 intersects a triangular portion 56 (shown in hatching) of the outlet 28. It will be noted that the proportion of pasty substance 34 extruded with respect to the pasty substance 30 extruded is a function of the ratio of the area of the section 56 and the area of the circular section 44 and that, in the case of the fi gure 7, the proportion of pasty substance 34 extruded is small compared to the quantity of pasty substance 30 extruded. By rotating the distributor 36 a little more, it arrives in the position of FIG. 8 in which the inlet section 44 is located substantially opposite the central part of the opening 20, while the inlet section 48 frees a triangular part 58 from the outlet orifice 28. This triangular part 58, shown in hatching, has a section greater than the triangular part 56 in FIG. 7 and therefore the proportion of pasty substance 34 extruded with respect to the pasty substance 30 extruded is greater than in the case of FIG. 7.
  • By rotating the distributor 36 even more, it reaches the fully open position shown in FIG. 2 in which the relative position of the outlets of the nozzle and of the inlet sections of the distributor are shown diagrammatically in FIG. 9. In FIG. 9, the inlet section 44 is always fully supplied by the outlet 20 of the end piece 14 and the inlet section 48 completely releases the triangular outlet 28. This position therefore corresponds to the full flow position of the pasty substance 30 and full flow of pasty substance 34.
  • It will be noted that, of course, the distributor 36 allows all of the intermediate adjustment positions, these positions possibly being identified by an appropriate index formed on the end piece 14.
  • The device according to the second embodiment of the invention, as shown in Figures 10 to 12, incorporates the essential elements of the device previously described with reference to Figures 1 to 9 and the corresponding elements will be designated by the corresponding increased numerical references of 100 units.
  • The main differences lie in the fact that the outlet 120 has a circular section corresponding to the circular section of the tube 116 and that this outlet 120 is aligned with the outlet 128 of triangular section in a direction orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the distributor 136 (cf. FIG. 11). In addition, the distributor 136 has a single through passage 142 whose inlet section 144 has an oblong shape (see FIG. 12) and whose opening 152 of the cannula 150 has a rectangular interior section. The length of the inlet section 144 is such that it allows, when the dispenser 136 is in the fully open position, that is to say with the cannula 150 directed upward in the extension of the orifice of outlet 112, that the outlets 120 and 128 both lead into the inlet section 114.
  • Of course, all the intermediate positions are possible from a position where only the outlet 120 opens into its inlet section 144 and where therefore only the pasty substance 130 is extruded, to the fully open position where the two pasty substances are extruded simultaneously with the maximum proportion of pale substance teuse 134 with respect to the pasty substance 130. Although the invention has been described with reference to preferred embodiments, it will be understood that it can be given certain variants of detail without departing from the scope of the invention.
  • The device of the invention may be provided with a protective cap intended to cover the upper part of the nozzle as well as the dispenser. The nozzle, the distributor and the cap can advantageously be made of a plastic material, the distributor being force fitted into the housing of the nozzle.
  • The device of the invention can be used in all cases where it is desired to distribute in adjustable proportion two pasty substances contained inside a deformable tube which has an outlet orifice.

Claims (7)

1. A device for dispensing two pasty substances (30, 34) in adjustable proportions, the substances being contained separately inside a deformable tube (10) provided with an outlet opening (12), the device comprising an adaptable cap (14) on the outlet opening of the tube to define two chambers inside the tube (10) which are capable of containing the two pasty substances (30, 34) and two corresponding outlets (20, 28) opening on an outlet surface of the cap (14); a distributor (36) mounted pivotally about an axis on the cap (14), the surface of the distributor (36) sweeping the outlet surface of the cap (14), the distributor (36) having one or two through passages (42, 46) opening at one of their ends through an inlet section in the surface of the distributor and opening at their other end through a common outlet opening (52), the inlet section or sections (44, 48) of the distributor releasing to a greater or lesser extent one of the two outlets (20, 28) of the outlet surface of the cap (14) as a function of the pivoting position of the distributor (36), characterised in that the distributor (36) is mounted pivotally about an axis (XY) perpendicular to the axis of the outlet opening (12) of the tube (10) between two extreme positions, the common outlet opening of the distributor is terminated by a nozzle (50) which, in one of the two extreme positions of the distributor, is sealed by an extension (54) of the cap (14), and the surface of the distributor and the surface of the cap are cylindrical and ensure tight contact between them.
2. A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the distributor (36) comprises a cylinder (38) in which the through passages (42, 46) are formed in a substantially radial manner and the nozzle (50) projects radially with respect to the cylinder (38).
3. A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the two outlets (20, 28) of the outlet surface of the cap (14) are positioned adjacently in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of rotation (XY) of the distributor (36) and the distributor comprises two through passages (42, 46), the inlet sections (44, 48) of which are positioned adjacently in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of rotation (XY) of the distributor.

A device according to claim 3, characterised in that one of the outlets (20) of the cap has a larger opening than the other so that it may communicate with the corresponding inlet section (44) of the distributor (36) over a range of positions of the distributor for which the other inlet section (48) releases to a greater or lesser extent the corresponding outlet (28).
5. A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the two outlets (20, 28) of the outlet surface of the cap (14) are positioned adjacently in a direction substantially orthogonal with respect to the axis of rotation (XY) of the distributor (36) and the distributor comprises a through passage (42).
6. A device according to claim 5, characterised in that the inlet section (44) of the through passage (42) of the distributor (36) has a sufficient angular opening to enable it simultaneously to release the two outlets (20, 28) of the outlet surface of the cap (14).
7. A device according to claim 1, characterised in that one of the outlets (20) of the outlet surface of the cap has a circular internal cross section while the other outlet (28) has a triangular internal cross section.
