Definitions

  • Coatings for the production of smooth surfaces for example paper or cardboard, containing binders of different chemical compositions. These coatings are lightened with brighteners to improve their aspect.
  • binders such as casein, starch, protein or gelatin
  • anionic whiteners from the triazinylflavonic acid series. This class of substances fails in the case of artificial binders.
  • the system according to the invention is able to absorb anionic brighteners in addition to dispersion brighteners.
  • the preparations according to the invention can be used to lighten both coatings which contain artificial binders alone and coatings which contain both artificial and natural binders.
  • Organic liquids boiling above 150 ° C and not completely miscible with water are, for example, high-boiling ethers such as dibenzyl ether, diphenyl ether and 1-methoxymethylnaphthalene; Acetals such as diphenoxyethyl formal; chlorinated hydrocarbons such as chlorinated paraffins with a chlorine content of 10 to 80, preferably 40 to 50%; Alkylbenzenes such as dodecylbenzene; Esters of organic and inorganic acids, for example phosphoric acid esters such as diphenyloctylphosphate, Ghlaräthylphosphat and trioctylphosphate; Monocarboxylic acid esters such as methyl oleic acid; Oxicarboxylic acid esters such as acetyl (2-ethylhexyl) citrate, acetyl tri-n-butyl citrate, castor oil, salicylic acid or methyl cresotate, aryl alkanesul
  • Phosphoric acid esters such as triethyl phosphate, trioctyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate and trichloroethyl phosphate have proven particularly useful.
  • Nonionic and anionic emulsifiers can be used as solubilizers.
  • the former emulsifiers are: esters and ethers of polyalcohols such as alkyl polyglycol ethers, e.g. B.
  • lauryl alcohol or oleyl alcohol polyethylene glycol ether, as Acylpolyglykoltechnikher ⁇ lklarepolyglykolfther, alkylaryl polyglycol ether such as nonyl and dodecylphenol the ⁇ thoxyl réelles reside, acylated amino-Alkanolpolyglykoltechnikher, further nonionic surfactants which are derived from fatty amines such as stearylamine, fatty acid amides or sugars and derivatives thereof.
  • the system can contain solubility-improving substances such as caprolactam, dimethylformamide, N-methylpyrrolidone or associates from caprolactam on the one hand and alcohols and amines such as methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, aminoethanol, diethylenediamine or triethylene glycol on the other hand. These substances can also take on the role of nonionic solubilizers.
  • the paper coating slips to which the preparations according to the invention are added contain, as binders, plastic dispersions based on copolymers of butadiene-styrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, acrylic acid esters, ethylene-vinyl chloride and ethylene-vinyl acetate; Homopolymers, such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene and polyvinyl acetate; or polyurethanes.
  • plastic dispersions based on copolymers of butadiene-styrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, acrylic acid esters, ethylene-vinyl chloride and ethylene-vinyl acetate
  • Homopolymers such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene and polyvinyl acetate
  • polyurethanes such as polyurethanes.
  • Aluminum silicates such as china clay and kaolin, barium sulfate, satin white, titanium dioxide or calcium carbonate (chalk) are usually used to pigment the coating slips.
  • the preparation of the preparation according to the invention is simple. It is done by mixing the components in any order at temperatures between 10 and 150 ° C. A preferred embodiment is to convert the components into a homogeneous phase at 80 to 120 ° C. After cooling, the ready-to-use product is obtained. If the anionic brightener is used as color acid, it is advantageous to concentrate it in the formation by adding neutralizing agents, preferably conc. To completely or partially neutralize NaOH.
  • composition of the preparations according to the invention can be varied widely. So you can with an increased content of organic, water-immiscible liquid on auxiliaries such.
  • Such preparations preferably contain 10-20% by weight of water, 1-5% by weight of dispersion brightener, 30-40% by weight of organic liquid which is not completely miscible with water and about 35-55% by weight of solubilizer .
  • Preparations of this type contain 5 to 25% by weight of water, 0.5-5% by weight of dispersion brightener, 1-30% by weight of brightener containing sulfonic acid groups, 4-20% by weight of organic liquid, 20-50% by weight non-ionic solubilizers and 3-15% by weight anionic solubilizers and up to 40% by weight water-miscible organic substances.
  • the coating composition according to the invention is used for coating paper. Use on cardboard and photo paper is particularly preferred.
  • the coating can be applied to the substrate by any conventional method and dried, for example with an air knife, doctor knife, brush, roller, squeegee or stick.
  • the degree of whiteness that can be achieved can often be improved by drying at elevated temperatures.
  • the coatings obtained in this way have an excellent level of white.
  • This coating slip the pH of which was approximately 8, was applied to conventional coating base paper by means of a wire doctor and dried at 100 ° C.
  • the degree of whiteness of the coated papers was determined using the Berger degree of whiteness formula on Elrepho with a xenon lamp from Carl Zeiss.
  • the paper lightened according to the invention had a whiteness of 112.3 compared to 82.9 when using 5 g of the comparative brightener. Increased amounts of the comparison brightener lead to greening without any further increase in whiteness.
  • Example 1 When incorporated as in Example 1, an excellent brightening of 115.3 Berger degrees of whiteness is obtained.
  • oleyl polyglycol ether (approx. 50 ⁇ o) and 100 g tris (chloroethyl) phosphate are warmed to a clear solution.
  • 270 g of caprolactam and 85 g of Vietnamese red oil are added as a 50% strength aqueous solution, and 25 g of 3-phenyl-7-dimethylamino-N-ethylcarbostyril and 125 g of 4,4 '- [4-amino-6-anilino-1, 3,5-triazinyl- (2)] - diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid by adding 120 ml of water and 25 ml of 45% sodium hydroxide solution in the mixture by heating to a clear solution.
  • the paper lightened according to the invention had a whiteness of 108 Berger whitenesses, while the comparative test only gives 99.6 Berger whiteness.
