Abstract

The invention relates to a nozzle head for use in hydraulic cleaning of pipelines, especially underground sewers, in which a flexible hose designed for supplying flushing water under pressure (or some other form of pressurised liquid) is introduced into the sewer with the nozzle head fitted at the lead end of the hose. The hose is advanced by the flushing head under the effect of the reaction force from a number of rearward directed jet nozzles 10 in the nozzle head, that is to say using the pressure energy of the flushing water. The nozzle head according to the invention is characterised in that a freely moveable body is enclosed in the head, especially in the form of a ball 5, which is situated in an annular chamber 13, through which the flushing water flows during its passage through the nozzle head on the way to the said nozzle apertures 10. The liquid is directed through the chamber 13 via a system of internal ducts 12, which are in part aligned tangentially in relation to the annular chamber, so that a rotating flow of liquid is created in the chamber. The rotating flow of liquid drives the ball 5 around the chamber in a high-speed, rotating motion determined by the radial limit of the chamber and the velocity of the flow of liquid. The motion of the ball results in a powerful vibrating effect in the nozzle head, and it is clearly this effect that in practice has been shown to improve the cleaning action and practicability of the nozzle head, even in sewers where access is difficult. Even solid deposits and sedimentation in the sewer are quickly and effectively loosened under the combined Aimpact effect@ of the nozzle head B that is to say the mechanical action on the surroundings B and the flushing effect. <IMAGE>
