Description
Method and apparatus for operating gas burners and such an oven which require the formation of oxide-preventing atmosphere The invention relates to further embodiments of the method and devices according to Patent give 933 for the operation of gas burners and such furnaces, which require the formation of oxide-preventing atmosphere, with the help of gases that are obtained by decomposing (splitting) an organic liquid that can be split at least for the most part into hydrogen and carbon oxide. The invention consists in that the organic liquid is broken down under pressure. Even at a pressure of over 3 atmospheres, but especially at over ro atmospheres, the splitting process and any conversion process that may still be desired are significantly accelerated; the implementation processes can be mastered with greater certainty. Furthermore, the moisture content which may be present in the cracked gas or which has not been converted during the conversion process can for the most part be precipitated by water cooling without the use of absorbents or adsorbents. Even the carbonic acid produced during conversion, which is very undesirable for many purposes, can be removed with detergent, with the exception of a residue that is no longer bothersome. Finally, a high pressure in the cracked gas system is desirable in order to overcome the flow resistance more easily and to be able to store a gas supply that can be used for gas delivery when the cracking gas requirement increases at times or when the cracking liquid supply is briefly interrupted.
The effort usually required to generate pressurized gases in expensive conveying equipment as well as in mechanical compression work can be saved if, in a further embodiment of the invention, the evaporation process, to which the organic liquid to be split into hydrogen and carbon dioxide is subjected must be used to generate pressure.
Further measures characterized in the claims and their Implementation of suitable facilities can be found in the following description, which relates to the two embodiments shown in the drawing.
In the first embodiment of FIG. I a held by an electric heating element 6 at a temperature of about 250 to 300 ° C the reaction chamber 5 is supplied from a reservoir 8 through a line 7 a mixture of methyl alcohol with water. This mixture evaporates in a pipe 31 surrounding the heating rod 6 and in the process generates a pressure in the system that substantially exceeds atmospheric pressure. The resulting methanol vapor is split into its components hydrogen and carbon oxide under the action of the contact substance ii accommodated in the upper part of the chamber 5. The carbon dioxide is converted into carbonic acid and hydrogen with the essential part of the water vapor, which arises when the water mixed with the liquid evaporates, with the assistance of a contact substance 12 in the lower part of the chamber 5.
The generated moist hydrogen-carbon dioxide mixture passes over a line 32 into a cooling pipe 33 which is inside a so-called washing cooler 35 is arranged. The moisture carried along is deposited in this cooling tube. The washer cooler contains packing 34, on the surface of which a ring shower head 36 supplied washing liquid, preferably cold water, trickles down. These At the high pressure prevailing in the system, liquid absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide on. The resulting solution is precipitated together with that in the cooling pipe 33 Gas moisture is collected in a container 40 and from this container through a valve 38 controlled by a float 37 derived. As a result of in the drain line 39 occurring relaxation escapes most of the absorbed carbonic acid, so that the liquid after expelling the gas residues and recooling again the Sprinkler 36 can be supplied.
Located in the pressure line 41 connected to the washing cooler a pressure relief valve 42, the spring 43 of which can be biased so that the Evaporation taking place in the pipe 31 ensures that the removal is as complete as possible the humidity and carbonic acid desired high pressure of at least 3 atmospheres, preferably of over io atü, results in the attachment. This high pressure also offers the possibility of in a pressure-tight storage container 45 connected to the line 41 To store gas supply, for example, while refilling the storage vessel 8 or in cases of a particularly high hydrogen requirement for gas delivery at times can be used. The relaxed gas can be released with a stopcock 47 provided extraction line 46 can be removed. If in place of the one shown in Plant produced technically pure hydrogen gas a carbon-oxide-containing gas desired is, of course, the conversion material that is responsible for its accommodation required chamber part and the washing cooler can be saved.
In order for the pressure to be split up despite the high pressure in the chamber To be able to supply liquid without using a mechanically operated pump, stands the storage container provided with a filling opening 48 which can be closed in a pressure-tight manner 8 in connection with the compressed gas line 32 by a line 49 which can be shut off. In the space above the liquid level in the container 8 is therefore the same Pressure as in the rest of the system. This can be done by the liquid level in the container 8 certain gradients can be used for the supply of the liquid to be split. In the supply line 7 is a controlled by a float 51 Valve 5o for regulating the supply of liquid and another valve 52, the the supply throttles or closes if the pressure in the chamber 5 is unacceptably high increases. To fill the storage container 8, before opening the closure of the filling opening 48, the valve arranged in the line 49 is initially closed. When steady gas generation is achieved, which is not interrupted by refilling processes is to be, two reservoirs 8 can be provided, each of which one of which can be shut off against lines 7 and 49 for refilling.
As can be seen from Fig. 2, can be used to feed the split Liquid also a small feed pump 55 can be used, which is expedient has a flow rate control. In the illustrated embodiment is on a piston 57, which is in communication with a control element 56 of the pump, of the in the pressure prevailing in the line 41 is brought into effect via a line 58, that the flow rate is reduced when the pressure in the system is a permissible Limit value is approaching.
In Fig. 2 it is further illustrated that the reaction chamber g can also be heated by the gas generated, which is through one of the extraction line 46 branched line 59 is fed to a burner 6o. A in the heating tube 61 to be introduced heating resistor, a temporary in place of the Gas burner 6o to be mounted under the heating tube 61 burner for liquid fuel used, or the Burner 6o can from a fission gas supply or fed by another fuel gas. The heating pipe 61 is in a thermally conductive manner Connection with perforated heating plates 62, the contact material stacked thereon 11 Apply heat.
The carbon dioxide-hydrogen mixture escaping from the chamber 5 becomes cooled in an air cooler 16. The accumulating in a water separator 63 Water is discharged via a collecting tank 4o through a float valve (Fig. I), while the dry gas mixture in the pressure line provided with a pressure relief valve 42 41 and from there into the removal line 46. Of course you can too in this embodiment, the storage container 45 shown in Fig. i is used and, if necessary, also a suitable one for converting the carbon oxide content Contact material and the chamber part required to accommodate it is provided will.
