Bei der Herstellung derartiger Kofferaufbauten besteht die Forderung nach einem maximal möglichen Volumen innerhalb des Behälters. Diese Forderung kann dadurch erfüllt werden, daß der Kofferaufbau bzw. der Container eine maximale Höhe und eine maximale Breite hat. Die Breite ist jedoch durch die Straßenverkehrsordnung auf maximal 2,5 m beschränkt. Gleiches gilt für die maximale Höhe eines Lastkraftwagens, der eine Höhe von 4 m gemäß derStraßenverkehrsordnung nicht überschreiten darf. Die Höhe wird aber auch dadurch begrenzt, daß derartige Container oder Kofferaufbauten mit Eisenbahnen transportiert werden. Dieser Transport kann sowohl ohne Lastkraftwagen im sogenannten Wechselbehältersystem oder mit Lastkraftwagen auf speziellen Eisenbahnwagons erfolgen. Beim Eisenbahntransport wird die maximale Höhe eines zu transportierenden Behälters durch das sogenannte "Lichtraumprofil" begrenzt.
