Table with detachable table legs

The innovation concerns a table, in particular an office table, with a table top with an upper work surface and an edge and with detachably attached table legs.

It is known to arrange the table legs in a detachable manner for tables that can be picked up and assembled by the customer. However, the table legs are attached perpendicular to the table top, i.e. the axes of the insert sleeves or fastening screws run perpendicular to the work surface. However, it is not possible, or only possible with great effort, to change the distance of the table legs from the edge. In particular, it is not possible to arrange the table legs outside the edge of the table top so that the upper end faces of the table legs are visible or accessible from above even without recesses in the edge of the table top.

The innovation is therefore based on the task of specifying a table of the type described above, in which the table legs can be attached at a selectable distance from the edge of the table top.

The solution to the problem posed is achieved in the table specified at the beginning in accordance with the innovation that the table legs have horizontally projecting first coupling elements and that the table top has second coupling elements below the work surface that are complementary to the first coupling elements, and that the coupling elements are guided into one another in such a way that the table legs can be secured to the edge of the table top at selectable horizontal distances from the edge of the table top.

The arrangement and design of the coupling elements makes it possible to connect the table legs to the table top at different distances from the edge of the table top, and

Preferably stepless, so that it is optionally possible to arrange the table legs within the edge of the table top so that their upper end faces are not visible from above, or to arrange the table legs outside the edge of the table top so that they are not only visible from above, but can also be connected from above to further bridge members that can be used to hold or support other furniture parts, in particular other table tops. Of course, it is also possible to optionally set all possible intermediate distances.

The second coupling elements belonging to the table top can be designed in different ways. It is possible to provide insertion openings accessible from the side for the coupling elements of the table legs in the table top itself or in a space between a top plate and a bottom plate, whereby the edge of the bottom plate can also be set back from the edge of the top plate, so that in this case too it is possible to arrange the upper end face of the table legs in a concealed manner.

However, it is particularly advantageous if the table top has a frame structure on its underside which has several second coupling elements protruding outwards on its circumference, with which the first coupling elements of the table legs can be connected.

Such frame structures can, as can be seen from the exemplary embodiments described in more detail below, have very different spatial shapes, so that it is possible

is to assemble a wide variety of tables by keeping only a few different table tops and just as few different frame structures in stock.

It is also advantageous if the coupling elements of the frame structure have an internal cross-section that differs from a circular shape, into which the respective coupling element of the table leg can be inserted horizontally. It is particularly advantageous if the coupling elements of the frame structure are designed as tubes with a rectangular cross-section. In this way, the table legs can be connected to the frame structure and thus to the table top in an extremely torsion-resistant manner, so that the table legs are largely protected against lateral deflection even when a loaded table is moved on a carpeted floor.

It is particularly advantageous if the coupling elements of the table legs consist of two flat strips each, one end of which is permanently connected to the table leg at the same height (for example by welding) and which run essentially parallel to one another, and the other, free ends of which can be secured by a spreading device within the respective coupling element of the table top.

Such a spreading device can in the simplest form consist of a grub screw which is mounted in a thread in one of the flat bands and increases the distance between the two flat bands when tightened, so that these flat bands in the coupling elements of the table top through

Jamming is specified. It must be ensured that the grub screws are accessible by means of appropriate holes and/or slots in the coupling elements of the table top.

However, it is also possible to design the spreading device in the form of a wedge that is pulled between the ends of the flat strips by a tension screw, so that they thereby carry out a spreading movement. The tension screw can preferably be accessible through an outer surface of the table leg.

It is again particularly advantageous if spacer sleeves are arranged on the coupling elements of the table legs, which bridge the distance between the table legs and the coupling elements of the table top. Such spacer sleeves, which can be kept in stock in different lengths, increase the torsional rigidity of the table legs in relation to the table top, especially if the ends of the spacer sleeves are shaped to complement the outer contour of the table legs, which are preferably designed as round steel tubes. These spacer sleeves have the further advantage that they conceal the connection point of the coupling elements with the table legs, for example corresponding weld seams. In addition, the spacer sleeves can be provided with a decorative surface coating, for example with a high-gloss chrome plating, a matt chrome plating or colored surface layers.

Figure 1 shows a table 1 with a table top 2, which has an upper, unspecified work surface

This table top has an edge 3, the possible course of which is shown in dash-dotted lines. This table has four detachably attached table legs 4, of which the one shown at the top right is shown pulled out. This is to show that the table leg 4 can be replaced by a bridge member 5, which is also shown pulled out. This will be discussed in more detail below.

Each table leg 4 has a horizontally projecting first coupling element 6, and the table top 2 has second coupling elements 7 below the work surface, into which the first coupling elements 6 can be inserted. The coupling elements are complementary to one another, whereby it is also possible to design the second coupling elements 7 so that they can be inserted into the first coupling elements 6. This option is not specifically shown in the drawing. The design of these coupling elements ensures that the table legs 4 can be secured to the edge 3 of the table top 2 at selectable horizontal distances from the latter.

In the illustrated embodiment, the table top has a frame structure 8 on its underside (not further specified), which has on its circumference the four outwardly projecting second coupling elements 7 to which the first coupling elements 6 of the table legs 4 can be connected.

The coupling elements 7 of the frame structure 8 have an inner cross-section that deviates from the circular shape, into which the respective coupling element 6 of the table leg 4 can be inserted horizontally. In the present case, the entire

Frame structure 8 is made of steel tubes with a rectangular cross-section. According to the drawing, the frame structure 8 consists of straight hollow profiles 9, 10, 11 and 12 arranged in a rectangle, with the hollow profile 9 of one long side of the rectangle projecting over the hollow profiles 11 and 12 of the two short sides of the rectangle. The ends 11a and 12a of the hollow profiles 11 and 12 of the short sides of the rectangle facing away from the said hollow profile 9 of the long side project over the hollow profile 10 of the other long side of the rectangle. The so-called second coupling elements 7 are formed in these projections.

As can be seen from Figures 2 and 3, the coupling elements 6 of the table legs 4 consist of two flat strips 13 and 14 made of steel, one end 13a and 14a of which is slightly curved and connected to the table leg 4, which is also made of steel, by weld seams 15. In the top view according to Figure 2, the entire arrangement is mirror-symmetrical. Between the flat strips 13 and 14 there is a gap 16, the width of which can be changed by a spreading device 17, which in the case shown consists of a grub screw 18. In the relaxed state, the two flat strips 13 and 14 run parallel to one another. The spreading device 17 allows the other free ends 13b and 14b to be spread in such a way that they can be secured within the second coupling element 7, which is designed as a hollow profile. In the event that a spreading device 17a is also located in the other flat band 13, this is arranged offset in the radial direction to the table leg 4, as shown in Figure 3.

As can be seen again from Figure 1, spacer sleeves 19 are arranged on the coupling elements 6 of the table legs 4, which are shown in Figures 4 to 6. As can be seen from Figure 6, these spacer sleeves have a rectangular cross-section, so that they can be pushed onto the pair of flat strips 13/14 just flat, i.e. with little play. The axial length of these spacer sleeves 19 determines the distance of the table legs from the ends of the second coupling elements 7, which are cut off at right angles. The end of the spacer sleeve 19 which abuts the cylindrical outer surface 4a of the table leg 4 has a complementary cylindrical cutout 19a, while the other end 19b abuts the coupling element 7 at a butt (Figure 1). Due to the cutout 19a, the spacer sleeve 19 also covers the weld seams 15 on both sides. The torsional rigidity of the entire arrangement is further increased simply by the positive fitting of the spacer sleeves 19 onto the coupling elements 6, in particular by the positive engagement of the cylindrical table legs 4 in the cutout 19a. As can be seen from Figure 2, the arrangement of the table leg 4 and the flat strips 13 and 14 is mirror-symmetrical with respect to a vertical plane passing through the axis of the table legs. According to Figures 2 and 3, the upper ends 4a of the table legs 4 have fastening means 20, namely threaded holes, for one bridge member 5 each, which is shown in more detail in Figures 1 _, 18 and 9.

Each of these bridge members 5 according to Figures 7, 8 and 9 has an oval tab 21 with a hole 22 which is aligned with the threaded hole in the upper end of the table leg 4 to cover

so that the tab can be screwed to the table leg.

A further spacer sleeve 23 is attached (by welding) to the underside of the tab 21, which corresponds to the spacer sleeve according to Figures 4 to 6, but is at least geometrically similar to it. Two further flat strips 24 and 25 are permanently inserted into this spacer sleeve 23, the ends 24a and 25a of which protrude from the spacer sleeve 23 to such an extent that the flat strips can be inserted into the coupling elements 7 to a similar depth as with the coupling elements 6 of the table legs 4. A gap 26 is also formed between the flat strips 24 and 25, which can be changed by a spreading device 27, in analogy to the spreading movement between the flat strips 13 and 14 on the table legs 4. The flat strips 24 and 25 thus form a further coupling element 5a, which corresponds to the coupling element 6 on each table leg 4.

As can be seen from Figure 1, a detachable box 28 is arranged within the rectangle of the frame structure 8, the outline or frame of which is indicated by double-dash-dot lines. Electrical cables can be laid in the cavity of this box 28, for example cables for light sources, data processing devices, etc. This box 28 is pivotally attached in the area of one of its edges, alternatively to the frame structure 8 or to the table top 2, although this is not shown in more detail.

Figures 10, 11, 12 and 13 explain how different tables T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 can be connected to one another using bridge members 5 according to Figures 7, 8 and 9.

In Figure 10, a table T1 is connected to a table T3 via two bridge members 5, the edge 3a of which is composed of a circular arc and two straight lines at right angles to each other, the length of which corresponds to the width of the table T1. On the underside there is a frame structure 29 with a square inner structure 29a, in whose protruding arms 29b three table legs 4 according to Figures 2 and 3 are inserted.

In Figure 11, a table T1 is connected to a table T4 via two such bridge members 5, the edge 3b of which has the shape of a "U" whose legs are connected to each other by a straight line. On the underside of the table top there is a U-shaped frame structure 30 to which two table legs 4 are attached. Thanks to the presence of the two bridge members 5, the table T4 is held in a stable position.

In the table combination according to Figure 12, the table T5 has an edge 3c in the shape of a square. On the underside there is a frame structure 31, which is also connected to two legs 4 of the table T1 via two bridge members 5. Two further table legs 4 are attached to the frame structure 31 in an analogous manner. In this way, the table also receives

T5 a stable position despite the presence of only two table legs 4.

In the embodiment according to Figure 13, two tables T1 and T2, whose longest axes are at a right angle to each other, are connected to each other by a table T6, the edge of which is 3d circular. On the underside of the table T5 there is an approximately triangular frame structure 32, which is connected to a table leg 4 of the table T1 or T2 via two bridge members 5. Only the corner facing away from the bridge members 5 is provided with its own table leg 4, so that the table T6 has a stable position despite the immediate assignment of only one table leg 4. A screen 33 is also arranged below the table top of the table T5.

In the embodiment according to Figure 14, the same frame structure 8 was used as in the table according to Figure 1, but in the opposite position with respect to the person sitting there, i.e. rotated by 180 degrees around a vertical axis. The table top 2a in this case is made of glass. In order to prevent a view through, this table top 2a can be roughened on the underside, although this is not specifically shown. The table top 2a has the shape of a circular ring sector and in this case is loosely placed on the frame structure 4, with the table legs 4 also lying outside the edge 3e here.

The distances between the table legs 4 and the frame structures 8, 29, 30, 31 and 32 can vary.

While the table la uses a table top 2a made of glass, the table tops can be made of a wide variety of materials, for example metal, coated wood, plastic or corresponding laminates.

Figures 15 to 17 show, while retaining the previous reference symbols, a table Ib with a table top 2b made of coated wood and the following additional elements:

A box 34 made of perforated sheet metal for accommodating cables is suspended from the frame structure 8, which protrudes beyond the hollow profiles 11 (only in Figure 1) and 12 arranged on the short sides of the rectangle of the frame structure 8 and has a frame 34a interrupted along its circumference. The box 34 is suspended on one side from two hinge points 35 and on the other side from a fixed bearing 36, in such a way that the box 34 can be pivoted into the position 34' shown in dashed lines in Figure 17 after being unhooked from the fixed bearing 36 (Figure 18). The hinge points 35 are equipped with corresponding degrees of freedom (long holes, etc.).

The frame structure 8 is provided with short support columns 37 and support plates 38 for supporting the table top 2b at a distance from the support structure 8.

According to Figures 15 and 16, a cable guide tube 39 is attached to one of the table legs 4 at the side and parallel to it, at the bottom and top by means of two oval tabs 40 and 41. The cable guide tube 39 has a lateral slot 39a along almost its entire length with a key-shaped extension 39b at the upper end to enable the insertion and removal of largely concealed and protected cables. The table-side ends of these cables then run in the box 34 and can be fed from there to the connecting devices.
