Process for hot-dip galvanizing of iron and steel wires and strips
When hot-dip galvanizing drawn wires or cold-rolled steel strips
these are often annealed before galvanizing, mostly in gas-heated continuous muffle furnaces,
and then pickled in acid, usually in hydrochloric acid, and then immediately put into the zinc bath
to be forwarded. Instead of gas-fired muffle furnaces, the temperature is also set to around 65.o °
heated lead baths are used. Because of the considerable pull-through speed
Both the muffle furnaces and the lead baths have to be quite long for the wire or the
To be able to bring the tape to the desired temperature. In both cases the
Generating the considerable amounts of heat, extensive heating equipment is necessary.
One disadvantage is above all that the material to be annealed is initially heated to a high temperature
(65o to 700 °), then completely cooled in the pickling acid and then in the zinc bath
must be reheated to zinc bath temperature. Introducing the highly heated
Good things in the pickling bath also result in heavy losses of pickling acid. Is in the zinc bath
to meet an increased heat demand because of the cold wire or strip that has been introduced.
It has therefore already been proposed to use the material annealed in the lead bath

So far this has only been achieved if the wire or strip is completely free of iron salts,
is free from pickling residues. However, these are cumbersome and therefore
also expensive. Pickling equipment required.
