Process for the production of hexachlorocyclic hexane It is known
IIexaclilorcvclohexati by chlorinating benzene in sunlight or by chlorinating
of benzene in a chlorine-saturated, dilute, about
to produce 10% lye. This chlorination with a hypochlorite solution separates
for a technical production, because they because of the large consumption of caustic potash
is uneconomical. The direct chlorination of benzene produces a larger amount
Extent of subtitution products such as chlorobenzenes and hepta- and () kt.iclilorcy-clohexane,
which are difficult to separate from the hexaclilorcvcloliexan and give the product an @unangenehinen
acquire a sharp and musty smell. -Disadvantage of the known method
is also the discontinuous way of working. In the recovery of hexachlorocyclohexane
the aim is to obtain an end product that is as enriched as possible in .y-isomers,
because of its strong insecticidal properties as a pesticide
can be used.
The invention shows one way of operating in a continuous manner
to produce highly effective hexachlorocyclohexane rich in y-isomers that only contains traces
of substitution products contains. In a sun exposure or artificial
The exposed reaction vessel becomes chlorine gas and saturated steam laden with benzene vapor

In the case of artificial exposure, for example, the reaction vessel can be either from
from the outside through sight glasses or from the inside with an ultraviolet ray
Light source are irradiated. By diluting the benzene with steam it becomes
the formation of substitution products, e.g. B. mono-, di- and trichlorobenzenes, hepta-

the hexachlorocyclohexane formed contains a larger proportion of γ-isomers.
die über Kolonnenfuß und Kolonnenkopf gewonnenen Produkte verschieden.1 part by weight of benzene is mixed with at least 1 to 5 parts by weight of steam
diluted. The ratio of chlorine to benzene is chosen so that about
Forms 15 to 30% benzene hexachlorocyclohexane solution. At the bottom of the reaction vessel
a drainpipe for the hexachlorocyclohexane solution is attached that is immersed in water.
A cooler with a template is located at the top of the reaction vessel. By cooling
the reaction tube gives an almost quantitative runoff of the condensed
Steam and the formed hexachlorocyclohexane solution at the bottom of the reaction vessel.
Isolation of the reaction tube results in a 100% transfer of the reaction product
at the head end over the cooler into the template. Between these two extreme cases
is controlled by suitable temperature control and changing the water vapor supply each
any ratio can be set. Since the hexachlorocyclohexane isomers and
the substitution products show differences in water vapor volatility
the products obtained at the bottom and top of the column are different.
The hexachlorocyclohexane produced by the process according to the invention contains 30 to 100/0 y isomers. The benzene-hexachlorocyclohexane solution obtained is freed of benzene and the lower substitution products such as mono- and dichlorobenzenes in a column into which steam is blown from below and in which the benzene-hexachlorocyclohexane solution is fed from above towards the steam.
