Process for the production of waxes The products summarized under the collective term 'waxes' represent esters of monobasic, high molecular weight fatty acids with high molecular weight, predominantly monohydric alcohols not belonging to the glycerine series. In addition to the esters, they contain a certain proportion of free alcohols and acids as well as others under the influence of Light and heat of decomposable substances; z. B. glycerides. In the extraordinarily large number of types of use, among which, for example, those as roller compounds, color binders, additives for impregnations, finishes, polishing compounds and the basis for cosmetic articles, the content of other substances, primarily products that can be changed by light and heat, is an essential one It is already known to artificially hex waxes by esterifying high molecular weight alcohols with high molecular weight fatty acids. The fatty acid component used was fatty acids obtained by oxidation of high molecular weight alcohols or by bleaching of montan wax. The high molecular weight alcohols required were essentially produced by reducing the corresponding fatty acids. It is stated that the fatty acids obtained by oxidation with air are mostly dark in color and have a bad odor. They must therefore either be subjected to post-treatment that requires special costs and time, or special measures must be taken for the immediate production of products with a sufficient degree of purity. The acids obtained by bleaching montan wax, on the other hand, contain the impurities present in the starting materials. It's the, -weiteren known to obtain fatty acids by direct oxidation of Kohlenoxydhydrierungsproduhten that will not melt expedient about 5o °, but about 1 5 ° o boil. The fatty acids formed in this way always contain undesirable secondary components, especially low molecular weight fatty acids, so that they cannot be used directly for the production of waxes.
