Process for drying tubes made of regenerated cellulose
So far, seamless cellulose tubes have been produced by converting viscose from a
ring-shaped nozzle pressed into a precipitation bath, cleaned the hose thus obtained and
dried the finished, wet hose by blowing air. The air pressure,
that was required to inflate the hose was dimensioned so high that the
dry hose a little smaller or the same width as the wet hose
owned. In order to achieve this with certainty, the cellulose tube was turned into a
Pulled cotton tube of the same diameter as the wet cellulose tube
and prevents any stretching when the tube is inflated. Were the so produced
Tubes soaked in water occurred a considerable stretch in width
a. The tube also tended, when wet, to move along with it when it was inflated
To stretch the air or stopper with sausage mixture excessively, which can sometimes lead to tearing
the cause of the hose.
It has now been found that these disadvantages can be eliminated and
at the same time a much higher strength of the hose can be achieved if one
Inert the hose by blowing air or something else during the drying process
The gas expands so far that the dried tube is at least 10 °) larger
Width than the wet hose before drying. One can click on the application
a cotton tube enveloping the cellulose tube during drying
waive. In many cases it is advantageous to use the cellulose tube before
Add glycerine during drying. When adding glycerine to the hose, it is possible
a lower pressure to inflate the
Hose than when using a glycerine-free hose.
Beispiele i.
erforderlichen Luft entspricht der Höhe einer Wassersäule von 8o bis 85 cm.It is known to use cellulose films and shrink capsules to increase
to add glycerine to their extensibility and swellability in water. All the more surprising
it is that the hoses produced by the present process despite the
Glycerine content no or only a slight swelling in water and likewise
have a low extensibility. Examples i. A woven wet cellulose tube
"with a wall thickness of 0.2 mm and a circumference of iramm is passed through 8% glycerine
and then dried under inflation. The pressure used to inflate the tube
required air corresponds to the height of a water column of 8o to 85 cm.
0,032 mm. 'Beim Einlegen in Wasser quillt
Materials, dem Glyceringehalt
An
The finished dry hose has a circumference of 130 mm and a wall thickness of. 0.032 mm. When it is placed in water, it swells from 130 mm to 132 mm in circumference, while a tube of the same circumference produced without stretching swells to 138 mm. Depending on the thickness of the material, the glycerol content of the hose, the properties of the dry hose to be achieved, etc., a higher or lower pressure must be used to inflate the hose. Any other inert gas can be used in place of air.
A wet cellulose tube 0.02 mm thick and 68 mm wide, ie with a circumference of about 137 mm, is inflated with air at a pressure of about cm water column while it is continuously passed through the drying apparatus. It expands to a circumference of 165 mm. As it passes through the drying apparatus, there is some shrinkage of the tube so that it leaves it dry with a width of 75 mm and a circumference of about 151 mm. The dried Schlafich swells 1 mm in width when placed in water.
