Description
B. Zink, Blei, Wismut, Arsen, Quecksilber u. a. m.Process for the reduction of zinc, lead and the like, a vaporizable one Crude ores containing metal ores The invention relates to a method and a Device for reducing the ores of vaporizable metal, such as. B. zinc, lead, Bismuth, arsenic, mercury and others m.
The invention consists in that made of ore, coal and limestone o. The like. Existing loading in a reduction chamber in the vicinity of its lower End introduced and then. inside the same by constantly hotter zones is passed up that after collection of the evolving gases and the evaporated Metal constituents the metal constituents deposited and those in the reduction evolved gases of one or more combustion chambers adjacent to the reduction chamber are supplied, in or in which they are burned after mixing with air , whereby the heat required for the reduction is generated, and that the dead rock is discharged at the top of the reduction chamber. Through this, that the charge is moved in 'the reduction chamber from bottom to top, need the hottest parts of the load not from a grate that is exposed to heat to be carried, but they are more abundant from the lower parts of the load worn, for which the heating is not undesirable, but actually desirable is. `The invention is also that the developed in the reduction Combustion gases in the addition to the reduction; chamber arranged combustion chambers are guided against the movement of the feed from top to bottom, so that the reduction chamber is easily hotter in the upper part than in the lower part.
To .from the loading of the reduction chamber one to maintain the reduction process to gain sufficient amount of combustible gas is according to the invention of the charge added an excess of limestone, wherein in addition to binding the sulfur constituents of the ores to form sulfur calcium carbon monoxide is produced.
There are already processes known in which the ores from below be moved upwards. However, the known methods have serious shortcomings that prevented their general introduction. In one of the known methods the ores must first be crushed, then mixed with a binding agent and finally are pressed into shaped stones; through these shaped bricks an electrical one then becomes Stream sent, whereby through the stream the evaporation; and reduction of the ores required heat is generated. The production of the shaped stones and the heating through the electric current instead of that described in the invention Use of the raw ores and their heating `` by the - Gases is extremely expensive and can only be used where the ores become one extensive shredding and where the electricity is extremely cheap is. According to another well-known proposal, the ores should be fed through an auger be pushed up in a shaft. In contrast to the invention, however, hot, the gases causing the reduction flow counter to the ores in the same shaft, with the exhaust gases and the steam are discharged close to the point of introduction of the ores. In this process, the reduced, vaporous metal components must be over Brush out the ore constituents, which have not yet been heated, so that a precipitate of the Metal components on the ores is inevitable; Besides, it prepares considerable Difficulties, the hot gases against their natural endeavor from above move down.
It is after all well known in the smelting of vaporizable Add limestone and coal to metals in the feed. These additives had, however not the purpose, as in the case of the invention, which is sufficient for the reduction of the ores Amount of combustible gas to generate, but only the purpose of harmful components; in particular to bind the sulfur components of the ores. So much for the well-known Process already dropped smaller amounts of flammable gases, however, is also it has already been suggested that these gases be used to preheat the charge, but not to be used for the actual heating.
The details of the device used to perform the method results from what is described below and in the accompanying drawing reproduced embodiment. The left. Half of the drawing shows one Section through the reduction chamber and the right half a section through the Combustion chamber.
As can be seen from the drawing, the device orders @u. a. from the reduction chamber io and an adjacent combustion chamber i i. The batch passes through a shaft 12 in, a cylinder 14 from which it intermittently by a horizontal plunger or piston 13 a cylinder 15 above a vertically movable plunger or piston 16 is supplied; on the upward movement the ram 16 presses the charge into the interior of the combustion chamber; during the downward movement of the plunger 16, the content of the reduction chamber is through the one which allows passage in only one direction and is controlled by the linkage 18 Clasp 17 worn. The loading device just described is correct essentially coincides with that of the earlier invention mentioned and is in essentially act in the same way. The deaf rock is through an opening 20 discharged, and the gases and vapors are formed through a in the masonry Well directed downwards and fed to a chamber 23, which is through a water jacket 2 i can be cooled. The gases rise from the chamber 23 through a second Shaft 2q provided in the masonry. up and get to a main pipe i, which is used to supply the combustion chamber i i with gas. In the combustion chamber the gases are burned with the addition of the necessary air through a pipe 26, which is placed on top of the stove. The combustion air can be preheated, z. B. in that it is passed through a jacket that is used to derive of the deaf rock serving shaft 20, surrounds.
Several condensation and melting chambers are expediently provided for each retort arranged one behind the other, so that preferably fractional cooling and condensation to separate the metals that evaporate at different temperatures; the in one Ore are contained, can be applied.
The metal bath is refined, and another method of separation the metals can be used if a lead-zinc ore according to the new process is treated, in which, due to its high specific weight, the Lead separates from the zinc and the two metals at different levels from the melt can be derived. -Anything in the. Coming out of the reduction chamber Residual metal vapors are oxidized in the combustion chamber, thereupon caught in suitable scrubbers and dust collectors and then either with the Remaining batch in turn fed to the reduction chamber or for use as Oxide retained.
The dead rock is continuously drained at the top of the retort and can be treated by supplying steam or water in such a way that any residual fuel carried by the rock due to the heat of the Rock itself can be converted into carbon oxide and hydrogen. The rock will then further cooled by using it to preheat the combustion air finds and after having extracted any valuable components contained in it are disposed of in some convenient way.
The procedure is as follows: The natural raw ore is ground and coated with a sufficient amount of lime or limestone or other suitable Oxides or carbonates and with powdered charcoal and sodium chloride or others vaporizable or easily decomposing chlorides mixed in such proportions, that taking into account the composition of the ore and the thermal requirements the chemical reduction of the individual components during the heat treatment of the mixture Carbon monoxide and hydrogen with or without a negligible amount of carbon dioxide, Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen along with zinc, lead and others vaporizable Gives metals in vapor form. The mixture is put into the reduction chamber in the already described manner, and when reaching the upper part of the chamber the dead rock is diverted through the opening 2o. The gases and vapors occur into chamber 23. The gases then go to the top of the combustion chamber supplied while the vapors are treated in the manner previously described.
When burned, the gases generate the heat required for Carrying out the chemical process and evaporation of the zinc, lead and other vaporizable metals, as well as for melting and refining the condensed Metal.
The use of carbonate of lime or limestone or other oxides or carbonates serves a dual purpose: i. the production of a sufficient quantity of CO., which under the action of the coal contained in the charge, possibly with other coal reactions, results in a gas whose heat, when properly burned, is equal to the heat required for treating the entire charge and for the subsequent melting and refining of the aggregate is necessary, 2. as a means of avoiding the undesired release of sulfur dioxide in the exhaust gases by converting this sulfur dioxide through the action and combination with the lime or limestone or other suitable oxides or carbonates mixed with the ore a S.uI-fid, sulphite or sulphate, whereby the sulphides, sulphites or sulphates formed in this way remain trapped in the dead rock.
The use of the invention makes pre-roasting for expulsion of sulfur as dioxide or carbonic acid in carbonates superfluous and results in an effective and economical extraction of zinc, lead and other such vaporizable metals from the ores.
Furthermore, the invention allows the recovery of the whole for the process required heat, from the gases obtained by the reaction be (after the procedure only through a special, externally supplied Fuel is introduced). The limestone or other carbonates that are in the batch are not only used to adjust the amount of gas according to the heat demand to increase, but at the same time to convert the sulfur components into calcium sulfide, sulfite or sulfate instead of the disruptive conversion into sulfur dioxide.
