Description

Process for tanning animal hides. It turned out to be the most surprising Observation was made that the resinous products, which are used as still bottoms obtained in the manufacture of phenols, especially phenol, cresols and resorcinol and are characterized by more or less easy solubility in water, are eminently suitable for tanning animal skin. You can do the tanning run with the aqueous solutions of the resins alone; but you can use the tanning agent can also be used together with other tanning agents of natural or synthetic origin. The products themselves behave like vegetable extracts during tanning.

The use of still bottoms the production of phenol for tanning animal hides was according to the previous assumption only after introducing one or more sulfo groups into the molecule of the residue product possible (see patent 30q.859).

Examples. i. 2o parts of the resinous mass, which after -lbdistillation of phenol from that obtained by alkali fusion of sodium benzenesulfonate If the crude product remains in the still, it is dissolved in 100 parts of water. The solution is put in several increasing proportions to 100 parts in the barrel walkender Nakedness too. After i:! - to i 6 hours fulling the leather is done, whereby the tanning liquor is pulled out almost clearly. The product obtained resembles this in every respect normal tan leather.

Durch Mitverwendung geringer Mengen reduzierender Mittel, wie Bisulfit, wird ebenso wie bei Quebracho ,eine bedeutende Aufhellung bewirkt.2. 15 parts of resorcin pitch, which after distilling off the resorcin the crude product obtained by alkali melting of sodium benzene disulphonate is obtained as the distillation residue, are dissolved in 7 5 parts of water and in initially small, then increasing amounts (5 to 6 parts) to 100 parts im Barrel of fulling pelt added. After 14 to 16 hours of fulling, the pelt is tanned through. The leather corresponds perfectly to the tan cooking. The color comes from that of the Quebracho leather vicinity. By using small amounts of reducing agents such as bisulfite, as with quebracho, causes a significant lightening.

Das Leder gleicht in jeder Beziehung, auch betreffs Farbe, dem lohgaren Leder.3. 8 parts of the resorcinol pitch mentioned in example 2 are put together with 3o parts of 25 percent myrobalan extract in the appropriate amount of water dissolved and, as in the previous examples, in increasing amounts of the nakedness (ioo Parts) added. The leather is the same in every respect, also in terms of color brown leather.
