Abstract

An optical scanning system (AE) delivers information for a number of image points (IBD) that represents an actual image. A conversion process generates a reference pattern (SBD). The actual data is entered into a register (EREG) at a clocked rate (Tp). A section of the data is transferred to a data reduction circuit (RS) that controls the transfer of data to the output register (AREG). The circuit has control unit (CTR) coupled to a buffer memory (ABF). The buffer output and that of a counter (ZE) are multiplexed as addresses for a memory (SPE) generating data (DO) for selection of image points. USE/ADVANTAGE - For reading documents. Generates reference image with reduced points.

Description

The invention relates to a method and a Schaltungsanord tion for the preparation of patterns for the mechanical optical Character recognition according to the preamble of claim 1 or of claim 3.

Automated optical character recognition systems for reading Do documents, such as receipts, forms and the like, can basically be divided into two subsystems, from de The first document in each case detected by measurement and before while the second is the task of the actual He identification. The preparation system includes an optoelek trical scanning device, which optically scans the document and in a corresponding image pattern, consisting of a lot number of pixels (pixels), converted.

Known scanning devices have optical means at For example, lenses that represent a line of the document serve on a photodiode array. To make it up pattern provided a suitable basis for the subsequent time is a precise magnification, a high freedom of distortion and a sufficient resolution to request for sampling.

To avoid such distortions lenses must be be set, the considerable effort by size, Be lighting performance or purchase price and by appropriate Cause adjustment. The provision of a pos The most distortion-free image pattern is therefore among other things Of importance, since the character recognition often in selected Areas to be carried out and when setting the Be  Limits Boundaries can occur that the verar additional, outside of the reading area to be set rich pixels obtained result.

The resolution of scanners may vary depending on Application can be very different. So wise for the maschi nelle Datenerfassung provided image scanner (scanner) mostly a higher resolution than for use in optical Character recognition systems is required. Therefore, a with preset resolution sampled, from a variety of Pixel existing actual image pattern in a target image pattern with a comparatively smaller number of pixels transformed.

Known measures to carry out such a transformation consist in that a predetermined number of pixels of the Actual pattern is counted in a specified counting cycle and each one pixel is omitted. The omission of Pixel leads to a stumbling effect in the conversion result and may be at a pixel size that is not much smaller than the smallest detail to be imaged is to deteriorate of the target image pattern.

The present invention is based on the object Ver drive and a circuit arrangement for the preparation of To create patterns through which the transformation of the Actual image pattern in the target image pattern with an arbitrary ge chose lower number of pixels enabled and ge together with the resolution reduction a distortion-free and Scale-accurate image pattern for subsequent processing stages provided.

The object of the invention is with regard to the method ge by the characterizing features of claim 1 ge solves.

In one before the actual scanning of the actual image pattern he The following process step is divided into sections Calibrated standard and for each section the number of detected pixels. By comparing the by the calibration standard reliably delivered pixels with one depending on a selected for the target image pattern Auf Solution calculated number of pixels becomes a number excess pixels per section.

The transformation of a provided actual image pattern into a Target image pattern can be arbitrarily finely graded by the pixels of the actual image pattern respectively determined superfluous pixels are hidden. To this end becomes a sequence of selection bits for all pixels of an Ab formed in the mask, in which the auszuschendenden, excess Pixels and contribute to the formation of the target image pattern the remaining pixels are marked.

The excess pixels are evenly distributed dazzled, with location and number of pixels to be blocked according to an embodiment of the invention in each section of the Calibration standards.

Through the periodic selection in each section bits are created for the pixels to be hidden non-pointing and scale accurate target image pattern for the Next to subsequent processing stages, which together with the dissolution reduction is achievable.

The features for solving the task regarding the Schaltungsan Regulation are in the characterizing part of claim 3 contain. According to one embodiment of the invention is thereby  a cyclically addressable memory provided by a Control unit with the sequence of selectable bits and bit wise for each pixel of the provided actual image pattern is readable again.

The invention will be explained with reference to a drawing Embodiment explained in more detail.

The block diagram shown in the figure shows a scarf arrangement for the preparation of image patterns for the machine nelle optical character recognition, where the on documents, For mularen etc. existing payload by means of an optical Scanning device in pixels (pixels) is resolved. The Resolution of the scanner determines the on number of pixels that make up a picture pattern is.

The scanning device shown in the block diagram AE, for example, from the information and data processing be known scanner (scanner), provides a higher resolution than is required for use in an optical character recognition system. The provided by the scanner AE resolution actual pattern provided, consisting of a plurality of pixels IBD, is therefore umgewan umgewan umgewan in a desired Bildmu with a smaller number of pixels SBD. The pixels IBD are sequentially input to an input register EREG with each pulse of a clock signal T p . Only part of the pixels IB stored in the input register EREG is taken over into a downstream output register AREG. In this case, a reduction scarf device RS is arranged parallel to the transmission path between the input and output registers, from the clock signal T p for the writing of a pixel in the input register EREG a corresponding clock signal T p S for the acquisition of a picture point in the output register AREG is generated ,

Before the pixels IBD of the respective actual image pattern of the Scanning AE are provided, a Abta takes place calibration standard, for example, in sections that alternately consist only of black or white pixels, is divided. The reduction circuit RS has one with the Scanner AE coupled control unit CTR with a Memory on which the gewonten from the calibrated standard gewon nen pixels EBD be entered. Also, for each the section of the calibration standard the number of pixels ge counts, which lie between two black and white transitions.

N = AS·Bn
Dn = Mn-N
The control unit CTR additionally has a computing unit in which the number N of pixels required for a true-to-scale mapping of a section n is multiplied by a section width B n given for each section of the calibration standard and a resolution target value A S selected for the target image pattern equation
N = A S · B n
is determined. A performed in the arithmetic unit sub traction of the calculated target number N of the obtained from the sampling of the calibration standard number M n of pixels according to the equation
D n = M n -N
gives a sectionally determined difference D n indicating the number of excess pixels per section.

Q = int (Mn/Dn)
R = Mn-(Qn·Dn)
den Rest der ganzzahligen Division bilden.
For the generation of a distortion-free and true-to-scale target image pattern of the pixels IBD of the Ist-Bildmu sters in sections R times each (Q + 1) -th pixel and (DR) times each Q-th pixel hide, where
Q = int (M n / D n)
the integer part of the quotient of the number of won and surplus pixels, as well as
R = M n - (Q n · D n)
form the rest of the integer division.

To hide pixels is in the control unit CTR generates a selection bit for each pixel of a scan line, which indicates whether a pixel of the actual image pattern in the Output register AREG for forming the desired image pattern over or not. The sequence of Selection bits contains periodically occurring lock bits for the excess pixels, with the period length of the lock bits can be varied as desired. This can be on easy In addition to the resolution reduction also corrections of Abbil scale and distortion.

To store the specified by the control unit CTR Sequence of selection bits is in the reduction circuit RS a Storage device SPE provided, for example, as Shift register or according to the block diagram as cyclic be implemented addressable memory with random access can. By setting a write clock signal WR for the Spei The SPE device can store the individual bits over the data line DI from the control device CTR to the memory SPE be registered.

The control unit CTR also supplies the ones for registered mail the bit sequence required addresses ADR. This is their Caching in a buffer ABF, which has a unidirectional address bus AB with the control unit CTR ver is bound, and then their switching to the adres sene inputs of the memory SPE by a selection switch MUX. An also provided by the control unit CTR Control signal EN causes the reading of the addresses from the Zwi storage ABF.

The information required for reading each of a selection bits from the memory SPE address information is generated by a Zah ler ZE and switched through by the switch MUX. In this case, the counter ZE is initiated via the control signal EN formed by the control unit CTR and inverted in a downstream logic element VG and reset to the count 0 each time after scanning a complete scanning line of the actual image pattern by the signal ZRES. With each pulse of Taktsi signal T p , the count is increased by 1, and thus each Weil the next following selection bit of the memory stored in the memory SPE th bit sequence addressed.

The clock signal T p for the writing of a pixel in the input register EREG and the point for the inscribed image respectively specified selection bit, which is read by applying the corresponding address ADR from the memory SPE via the associated data line D 0 are from a switching element U linked to the clock signal T p S, which causes the capture of the pixel in the output register AREG or blocks. In the present example, the switching element consists of an AND gate, since the selection bit for a pixel to be hidden the state 0 and for a pixel to be forwarded the state 1 has.

The following is a calculation example, the number and the distribution of those in a section n to be hidden, indicated excess pixels:

Vogegebene Abtastauflösung des Ist-BildmustersVoiced scanning resolution of the actual image pattern Ai=400 dpi (dots per inch)A i = 400 dpi (dots per inch) geforderte Auflösung des Soll-Bildmustersrequired resolution of the target image pattern As=300 dpiA s = 300 dpi gezählte Bildpunktecounted pixels Mn=205 PixelM n = 205 pixels berechnete Bildpunktecalculated pixels N=150 PixelN = 150 pixels überschüssige Bildpunkteexcess pixels Dn=55 PixelD n = 55 pixels Quotientquotient Q=int (Mn/Dn)=3Q = int (M n / D n) = 3 Restrest R=205 - (Q×Dn)=40R = 205 - (Q × D n ) = 40

Thus, in section n, every fourth pixel will be 40 times and faded out every third pixel 15 times.
