Abstract

A process for continuously casting steel, esp. killed steel. The operating stages are carried out with molten steel in contact with air inside a closed chamber, free from oxygen and circulating at least one non-toxic inert gas inside the chamber. The gas may be nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon or a mixt. of two or more, maintained under a slight overpressure. Closed-loop conditioning is used in order to continuously remove heat, fumes and vapours released during casting, from the inert gas.
