Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for improving the Burning speed of one in a combustion chamber Internal combustion engine included fuel / air Ge mixes according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
From US-PS 28 44 135 a method is known with whose help is the combustion of one in a combustion chamber closed fuel / air mixture is affected. This is done in the combustion chamber between one and the other whose components insulated electrode on the one hand and the Combustion chamber wall or the piston of the internal combustion engine on the other hand generates an electric field of high intensity. In the fuel / air mixture, especially on the flame front, existing zones experience a force in this field, where through the spread of the flame front after ignition of the mixture is promoted. The strength of the electrical On the one hand, the field should be so high that it has an influence combustion is possible, on the other hand, a direct discharge from the electrode to the piston or to neighboring combustion chamber wall can be avoided. On this way the flame front can propagate can be accelerated by the force acting on the ions. However, it is not possible to burn yourself accelerate, d. H. the energy converted per unit of time to increase.
A multiple spark ignition is intended to ensure that, even with a high exhaust gas recirculation ratio, reliable ignition of the entire mixture present in the combustion chamber and complete combustion by shortening the combustion time of the same takes place. This is achieved by a corresponding arrangement of a plurality of spark plugs in the combustion chamber, which are ignited at the same time. According to DE-OS, the ignition duration or the ignition timing of the spark plugs can also be a little different from one another in order to compensate for a possibly asymmetrical arrangement of the plurality of spark plugs in the combustion chamber. In this way, the NO x emissions of the internal combustion engine are to be reduced. The DE-OS thus shows a possibility for shortening the flame paths in the combustion chamber and in this way to increase the burn rate. However, a large number of spark plugs are required, all of which must be supplied with the high voltage required for mixture ignition. A targeted combustion control by influencing combustion at defined points in time is not possible with the device according to DE-OS.
The object of the invention is to enlarge the upper area of the flame front the combustion process locally and optimize in time.
The task is inventively characterized in ning part of claim 1 mentioned features ge solves. Further advantages and refinements of the invention emerge from the subclaims and the description.
In an internal combustion engine, this is switched on in the combustion chamber closed fuel / air mixture due to turbulence producer who before and / or after each start of ignition, in the In the case of a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine a separate spark plug is initiated, is switched on, optimally spatially and temporally and strongly swirled. episode this vortex is a rupture of the flame front after the ignition and thus an enlargement of their upper surface, which makes the combustion process faster can. The turbulence is caused by an electrical ent charge generated in the combustion chamber. For the mode of action itself it is of secondary importance whether the Turbu Lenz generated before or after ignition of the mixture will, d. H. whether the mixture is swirled or the flam menfront. It is crucial that there is turbulence in the combustion chamber are generated so temporally and locally that the Ver Burning controlled and / or regulated within wide limits can be.
The invention is described below with reference to the drawing. In the single figure, a combustion chamber 1 of an internal combustion engine 2 can be seen schematically. In the combustion chamber wall 3 , an electrical turbulence generator is net angeord, which is controlled by a control unit 5 . As a tur bulge z. B. a sliding plug 4 are used, which is switched on by the control unit 5 before and / or after each ignition in the combustion chamber 1 . The shock wave 6 resulting from the electrical discharge on the glow plug 4 is made from the glow plug 4 starting in the combustion chamber 1 . If the electrical discharge occurs after the ignition of the mixture enclosed in the combustion chamber 1 , then the schematically drawn flame front 7 is torn open by the shock wave 6 , so that its surface area is greatly enlarged. This increase in surface area allows the combustion to run optimally. The same effect can be aimed if the discharge occurs before the mixture is ignited, so that the flame front 7 already finds a tur bulent flow in the combustion chamber 1 while it is spreading. In this case, too, the flame 7 is torn open, thus increasing the reactive surface. It is basically irrelevant whether the shock wave 6 is directed against the direction of propagation of the flame front 7 or in the direction thereof. The only thing that is essential is the generation of turbulence that increases the reaction surface of the flame front 7 . However, it is conceivable, by appropriate arrangement of the sliding candle 4 of the flame front 7 to give a preferred direction of propagation which meets the special requirements of different combustion chamber geometries and thus locally optimize the flame front 7 . Furthermore, combustion can be specifically controlled by the fact that not only - as described previously - a single ne turbulence is generated in the form of a single shock wave 6 , but several shock waves in succession during the combustion process. As a result, the combustion process can also be optimized in terms of its timing.
The invention is by no means limited to a special type of Internal combustion engines limited and can be both mixture-compressing internal combustion engines, as well Use air-compressing internal combustion engines.
