Process for obtaining rustproof surfaces on iron parts.
It is known that the latter can be used to achieve rust-proof surfaces on iron
to bring in a glowing state in an ammonia atmosphere. The surface experiences
of the iron to a shallow depth, a change that prevents rust formation
and which undoubtedly appears to be due to the formation of iron nitride.
verwendbar. This process naturally brings various inconveniences
with himself. For example, the glowing iron parts can warp, or
they lose their surface gloss or they become soft.
Thus the method is not everywhere and not everywhere with the same advantage
usable.
According to the invention it is also possible to have a rustproof surface
to achieve iron by hanging the iron parts to be treated as an anode in
an electrolytic bath where nitrogen is released at (the anode. This
Procedure has exactly the same effect as introducing weakly glowing
Iron parts in an ammonia atmosphere, so that the one with him in statu nascendi
Occurring nitrogen also forms iron nitride with the iron.
The advantage of the method of the invention over what has been known since then is nonexistent
further evident, since this completely eliminates the above-mentioned disadvantages
will.
in Frage.

For example, the process can be carried out in the following manner: The electrolytic bath can be produced in a similar way to nickel-plating baths. Thereby: a pre-treatment device for degreasing the iron parts is not necessary. An ammonium sulphate concentration of 70 kg to 12o kg (N Hj2 SO ¢ in the cubic meter of bath liquid should prove to be the most favorable. It is advantageous not to let the ammonia concentration fall below ten free ammonia in the cubic meter of bath liquid. Cathodes are used All copper or nickel in question. The most favorable current density is probably between Dk- 1.255 and Dk- 475 amperes per zoo square centimeter. Depending on the absorption capacity of the iron and the effectiveness of the bath, the duration of treatment is an hour or more. The results before and after the anodic treatment of the iron show the following analysis figures, which are the average of a whole series of analyzes: Before the treatment: After the treatment: Percent percent

The test results after the treatment relate to the approximately 0.1 mm thick scraped surface of the treated piece. As can be seen from the comparison of the numerical values, a strong enrichment of the surface of the iron in nitrogen has taken place, on the influence of which the rust-protecting effect must be attributed. Enrichment to about twice to three times the original nitrogen content also occurs when iron is anodically treated for a longer period of time in a nickel had.
Above all, it is possible to use the subject of the invention to polish objects
without making a nickel plating rustproof.
