Abstract

Suspended solids, esp. crystals, are washed by counterflowing liq. in a series of hydrocyclones, or of gps. of such cyclones operating in parallel. The washing must be at elevated temp. and pressure. All hydrocyclones, together with the washing liq. circulation pumps, and the sumps wherein the pumps are immersed, are held in a single pressurised and thermally insulated vessel. Interconnecting liq. feed times may be in the same vessel, but if outside the vessel are externally heated. Cyclone components may be held in domes projecting from the pressure vessel, with covers removable for maintenance. Cyclones may be suspended from the dome interiors by extensible bellows. Motors for driving pumps and for sump liq. stirrers may be externally mounted.
