Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein optoelektronisches Kop
pelelement nach dem Oberbegriff des Patentanspruchs 1.
Ein optoelektronisches Koppelelement bzw. Optokoppler oder
auch Optoisolator bzw. optoelektronisches Relais genannt,
dient bekanntlich der rückwirkungsfreien Signalübertragung
zwischen zwei galvanisch getrennten Schaltkreisen, und zwar
einem Primär- und einem Sekundärstromkreis. Sie bestehen
aus einer Lumineszenzdiode, und zwar im sichtbaren oder
infraroten Wellenlängenbereich lichtemittierenden Diode
(LED- oder IRED-Typ), und einem Detektorbauelement, z.B.
einer Photodiode oder einem Phototransistor, die optisch
miteinander verkoppelt sind. Die Vorteile von Optokopplern
gegenüber mechanischen Relais sind das Fehlen jeglicher
bewegter Teile, ihre lange Lebensdauer, ihre Kleinheit,
ihre Kompatibilität mit Halbleiterschaltungen und vor
allem ihre hohe Schaltfrequenz.
Bei Optokopplern werden meist Lumineszenzdiode und Photo
detektor auf getrennten Leiterbahnen montiert und so ange
ordnet, daß ein möglichst großer Teil der Emissionsstrah
lung auf die Empfängerfläche des Photodetektors fällt. Die
optische Kopplung kann durch eine Kunststoffzwischenschicht,
die zugleich eine höhere elektrische Isolierung bewirkt,
verbessert werden.
Bei den heutigen Optokopplern werden z.B. für die Primär-
und Sekundärseite jeweils ein Leiterband verwendet, auf
dem der Sender- bzw. Empfängerchip mit üblichen Verfahren
aufgebracht und kontaktiert ist. Die beiden Bänder werden
zueinander gebracht. Der Lichtkanal wird durch Tröpfeln,
Umpressen oder Vergießen hergestellt. Anschließend wird
der Lichtkanal mit einer reflektierenden Schicht überzogen
und das gesamte Bauelement außen mit Kunststoff umpreßt
und konfektioniert. Anstelle von zwei Leiterbändern, die
es erlauben, Sender- und Empfängerchip einander gegenüber
liegend aufzubauen, kann auch ein Einleiterbandverfahren
mit koplanarem Aufbau von Sender- und Empfängerchip ver
wendet werden.
Infolge des komplexen Aufbaus eines optoelektronischen Kop
pelelementes mit z.B. einem Infrarot-Senderchip, einer
isolierenden Lichtübertragungsstrecke (Koppelmedium) und
einem Empfängerchip ist dieser Aufbau relativ aufwendig.
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein optoelektro
nisches Koppelelement zu schaffen, dessen Aufbau relativ
wenig Aufwand erfordert und damit kostengünstig ist und
das sich zudem durch geringen Raumbedarf auszeichnet.
Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß durch ein optoelektro
nisches Koppelelement mit den Merkmalen des Anspruchs 1
gelöst.
Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen bzw. Weiterbildungen der Er
findung sind Gegenstand zusätzlicher Ansprüche.
Die mit der Erfindung erzielten Vorteile bestehen insbeson
dere darin, daß der Aufbau des vorgeschlagenen optoelektro
nischen Koppelelementes sehr einfach und mit konventionel
len Vorrichtungen durchführbar ist.
Der Lichtkanal (Koppelmedium) zwischen Sender- und Empfän
gerchip ist insbesondere bei geringen Sperrspannungsanfor
derungen zwischen Primär- und Sekundärseite mit einem dem
konventionellen Chipklebeverfahren nahezu identischen Vor
gehen einfach und kostengünstig herstellbar.
Von besonderem Vorteil ist das Hinzufügen von transparen
ten Abstandspartikeln, vorzugsweise von Glasfaserabschnit
ten oder Glaskugeln, in das aus einem Kleber oder Glaslot
bestehende Koppelmedium. Damit lassen sich zum einen höhere
Sperrspannungsforderungen realisieren. Zum anderen sind mit
dieser Maßnahme definierte Abstände zwischen den zu verbin
denden optoelektronischen Bauteilen gewährleistet.
Dieser Vorteil läßt sich auch dadurch erzielen, daß das
als Sender- bzw. Empfängerchip ausgebildete Halbleiter
bauelement an seiner an die als optisches Koppelmedium vor
gesehene transparente Kleber- oder Glaslot-Verbindung an
grenzenden Seite mit einem isolierenden Substrat, z.B.
chromdotiertem GaAs, und/oder das als Empfängerchip aus
gebildete lichtempfangende Halbleiterbauelement an seiner
entsprechenden Seite mit einer zusätzlichen isolierenden
Schicht z.B. aus Polyimid versehen sind.
Anhand eines in den Figuren der Zeichnung rein schematisch
dargestellten bevorzugten Ausführungsbeispiels wird die
Erfindung näher erläutert. Teile, die nicht unbedingt zum
Verständnis der Erfindung beitragen, sind in den Figuren
unbezeichnet oder weggelassen. Es zeigen
Fig. 1 ein erfindungsgemäßes optoelektronisches Koppelele
ment teilweise im Schnitt und
Fig. 2 eine Draufsicht auf das erfindungsgemäße optoelek
tronische Koppelelement nach Fig. 1.
Das in den Fig. 1 und 2 dargestellte optoelektronische
Koppelelement besteht im wesentlichen aus dem lichtemit
tierenden Halbleiterbauelement 1, in diesem Beispiel einem
transparenten Infrarot-Senderchip (z.B. GaAs mit diffun
dierter Diode an der Oberfläche) und dem lichtempfangenden
Halbleiterbauelement 2, in diesem Beispiel einem Infrarot-
Empfängerchip (Fototransistor), die über das transparente
Koppelmedium 3, in diesem Beispiel einen Kleber, direkt
miteinander verbunden sind. Diesem Koppelmedium 3, das
zweckmäßig auch aus Glaslot bestehen kann, sind vorzugs
weise transparente Abstandspartikel 4 hinzugefügt. Als
Abstandspartikel 4 sind beispielsweise Glaskugeln oder
Glasfaserabschnitte besonders geeignet.
Für den Zusammenbau des optoelektronischen Koppelelementes
ist folgendes Vorgehen zweckmäßig:
Der Infrarot-Senderchip 1 wird mit dem transparenten, mit
Abstandspartikeln 4 versetzten Kleber 3 direkt auf den In
frarot-Empfängerchip 2 geklebt. Die Verbindung des Empfän
gerchips 2 zum Leiterband sowie die Kontaktierung der
Chipoberseite von Empfänger und Sender erfolgt durch kon
ventionelles Chipkleben bzw. Drahtverbinden. E 1 bzw. A 1
sind der Ein- bzw. Ausgang des Senderchips 1 und E 2 bzw.
A 2 sind der Ein- bzw. Ausgang des Empfängerchips 2, die
auf einer Metallspinne, dem sogenannten Lead-Frame 5 in
herkömmlicher Weise aufgebracht sind. Das Aufbringen des
Senderchips 1 mit dem transparenten Kleber kann ebenfalls
im üblichem Chipklebeverfahren erfolgen.
Der Aufbau wird vorzugsweise in der Reihenfolge Systemträ
ger (Leiterband) 5, Verbindungsmittel (z.B. Eutektikum),
großflächiger Empfängerchip 2, Koppelmedium 3, kleinflächi
ger Senderchip 1 vorgenommen.
Die äußere Bauelementumhüllung wird mit einem konventionel
len Umhüllungsmaterial, das nicht transparent ist und re
flektierend (weiß) eingefärbt wird, vorgenommen.
Claims (6)
1. Optoelektronisches Koppelelement mit einem lichtemittie
renden Halbleiterbauelement, insbesondere einem Senderchip,
und einem lichtempfangenden Halbleiterbauelement, insbeson
dere einem Empfängerchip, die über ein optisches Koppelme
dium fest miteinander verbunden sind, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß das lichtemittierende
Halbleiterbauelement (1) und das lichtempfangende Halblei
terbauelement (2) über das Koppelmedium (3) direkt mitein
ander verbunden sind, und daß das Koppelmedium (3) eine
transparente Kleber- oder Glaslot-Verbindung ist.
2. Optoelektronisches Koppelelement nach Anspruch 1,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der
Kleber- oder Glaslot-Verbindung transparente Abstandspar
tikel (4) hinzugefügt sind.
3. Optoelektronisches Koppelelement nach Anspruch 1 oder 2,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die
Abstandspartikel (4) Glasfaserabschnitte oder Glaskugeln
sind.
4. Optoelektronisches Koppelelement nach einem der Ansprü
che 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß die Abmessungen der Abstandspartikel (4) den vorgege
benen Abstand zwischen dem lichtemittierenden Halbleiter
bauelement (1) und dem lichtempfangenden Halbleiterbauele
ment (2) bestimmen.
5. Verfahren zum Herstellen eines optoelektronischen Kop
pelelements nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß der Aufbau in der Rei
henfolge: Systemträger bzw. Leiterband (5), Verbindungs
mittel, z.B. Eutektikum, großflächiger Empfängerchip (2),
Koppelmedium (3), kleinflächiger Senderchip (1) vorge
nommen wird.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekenn
zeichnet, daß die Anordnung von einem nichttrans
parenten, jedoch reflektierenden Medium umgeben wird.
