Method for preventing explosions in carbide containers of acetylene generators
of the throw-in system. There are multiple explosions on the acetylene apparatus of the throw-in system
of the carbide container, which is used to hold the carbide before throwing it in,
the cause of which is the ignition of an explosive acetylene-air mixture due to the formation of sparks
to look for. The spark formation comes about because it goes into the carbide container
carbide falling during the filling process or pieces of iron or ferrosilicon contained therein
sparks strike the sheet iron, or that the moving parts of the carbide insertion device
Generate sparks. Since then, attempts have been made to avoid this dangerous spark formation
by lining the carbide container with soft, non-sparking metals and using it
those for producing the moving parts of the carbide inserting device.
Rohr in diesen einfallen muß.
Öffnet man
2
Prozent geringeren Azetylengehalt zeigt.
We have looked for another way of avoiding the explosions of carbide containers of the type mentioned above and found a new method which does not prevent the formation of sparks, which certainly cannot be avoided, but excludes the possibility of ignition. The new method for preventing explosions in the carbide container of acetylene generators is that this carbide container is always filled with high-percentage acetylene and that the air is prevented from entering when the carbide is filled so that the carbide pieces do not contain an oxygen-containing gas mixture, but a pure gas mixture when they hit the metal surfaces or find almost air-free acetylene. The new method benefits from the fact that in the developers of the throw-in system, the carbide must fall from the closed carbide container through a tube which is immersed in the water of the development space, that is to say shut off by water. As a result, the carbide container is filled with high-percentage acetylene, usually without the need for special acetylene introduction. To hold this in the carbide container even when filling fresh carbide, is achieved in such a way that firstly the closure of the carbide container is opened inwards and secondly the entire amount of carbide to be filled in is introduced into a funnel-like prefill that is fitted onto the carbide container and can be completely open at the top, so that it covers the closure of the carbide container. If the closure is opened for the purpose of admitting the carbide into the carbide container, no air can penetrate; on the contrary, the acetylene displaced by the incident carbide blows through the carbide mass and prevents the air between the pieces from penetrating. Analyzes of the gas in the carbide container have shown that it consisted of at least 98 percent acetylene before the carbide was admitted and that the acetylene content was at most 2 percent lower immediately after admitting the carbide and closing the flap. This high acetylene content of around 95 percent makes it impossible to ignite the gas through spark formation.
