Abstract

For monitoring the time slot occupancy in a time-division multiplex telecommunication, in particular telephone, exchange having a multi-stage switching matrix with reversed trunking scheme, three counters are provided per switching unit, the first counter registering the doubly occupied time slots (for example connection within one switching unit), the second counter registering the singly occupied time slots (connections between switching units) and the third counter registering the free time slots. By evaluating the counter readings, measures can be taken to avoid overloading the switching matrix, better utilising the switching matrix and for traffic measurements.
