Abstract

Seaming of fabric edges required their initial joining by ordinary chain stitching before the joined edges are oversewn by at least one pair of chain stitches. The stitch rows of each pair locate on opposite sides of the seam; they are preferably formed at the same time. Seaming may be done on a linking machine having a dial of points and two sewing stations. The first performs ordinary chain stitching. The second has two stitching assemblies spaced apart in the indexing direction; the two needles are respectively located on the inside and outside of the dial with their associated yarn-wrappers in the opposite location. The needles may be mounted on arms pivotally connected to one or two needles for reciprocating motion.
