Zum Färben alaungarer Leder dienten bisher so gut wie ausschließlich natürliche Holzfarbstoffe, weil nur dadurch die verlangte Gleichmäßigkeit der Färbungen erzielt werden konnte. Teerfarbstoffe konnten hierfür kaum eine Verwendung finden. Die sogenannten basischen Farbstoffe geben nämlich fast ausnahmslos ungleichmäßige Färbungen und zeigen beim Auftragen außerdem die Neigung, auf die Rückseite der Leder durchzuschlagen; die sauerziehenden und Alizarinfarbstoffe decken ungenügend und geben magere Farbtöne und die Schwefelfarbstoffe scheiden wegen ihrer Anwendung im alkalischen Bade aus.Process for dyeing alaungareni leather with tar dyes.
