The sewage sludge that accrues as waste products in many industries is thereby easily converted into valuable building materials, which eliminates the need for disposal and at the same time creates a particularly environmentally friendly, economical and widely applicable possibility for further processing the sewage sludge.
Description
The invention relates to the use of an industrial sewage sludge.
In industry, sewage sludge is often produced as a waste product, the disposal of which (landfill, incineration, etc.) is problematic, complex and expensive for environmental reasons.
It is known that in individual cases sewage sludge can be processed in such a way that the products obtained can be reused in recycling processes. However, such a procedure is expensive and is rarely considered.
For example, it is known from US-PS 40 96 061 to coagulate aqueous emulsion paint waste using organic substances and, after separating the resulting solid phase, to add an anionic agent with a dispersing effect. The product obtained in this way can be used to form a new emulsion paint after re-emulsification. However, in addition to the high costs, particularly for re-emulsification, this process has the disadvantage that different re-emulsifying agents have to be used for different dispersion coagulates in order to ensure the storage stability of the product produced from them. Due to these circumstances, the process is not suitable for broad application for the reuse of waste water mixtures from various production branches of the paint and plaster industry. It is also not possible to include dissimilar waste from other branches of industry.
Ferner ist es bekannt, Lackabfälle im Gemisch mit Additiven zur Herstellung von ausgehärteten Werkstoffen wie Entdröhnungs- und Verkleidungsplatten für den Kraftfahrzeugbau wie auch Paneelen zu verwenden (DE-OS 31 50 718, GB 20 48 288).Furthermore, it is known to use paint waste in a mixture with additives to produce hardened materials such as sound deadening and cladding panels for motor vehicle construction as well as panels (DE-OS 31 50 718, GB 20 48 288).
The invention is based on the object of creating a further use process for the further processing of industrial sewage sludge, in particular in the paint and plaster industry, which makes the disposal of the sludge unnecessary and, in particular, offers both better economic efficiency and a broader field of application compared to the known recycling processes.
To solve this problem, according to the invention it is proposed to use the sewage sludge in a mixture with organic and/or inorganic additives as plaster, mortar, adhesive or filler for construction purposes.
This proposal is based on the knowledge that in many industries, such as the production of paint, dispersions and synthetic resins and the further processing of these products, as well as in painting processes, wood fibre production, the wallpaper industry, etc., sewage sludge is produced whose composition is suitable for the manufacture of reactive building materials such as plaster, mortar, adhesive, filler and similar products before use. To this end, the necessary additives are added to the sewage sludge in accordance with the desired quality standard. This can usually be done with a simple mixing device.
The sewage sludge that accrues as waste products in relevant industries is thus easily converted into valuable building materials, thus eliminating the need for disposal and at the same time creating a particularly environmentally friendly, economical and widely applicable option for further processing the sewage sludge.
In order to improve the physical/chemical properties of the building material, cement can be added to the sewage sludge before it is processed on site.
It is also possible within the scope of the invention to add dispersions, glues, emulsifiers, wetting agents and preservatives to the building material as additives in order to improve the processing properties and increase the quality or storage stability. A similar effect to that achieved by adding preservatives can also be achieved by heating, UV radiation or similar methods.
Hierfür kommen u. a. Basalt, Sand, Gips u. ä. in Frage. It is also possible to use inorganic fillers as additives, which themselves are waste products in other industries and would otherwise have to be disposed of in a landfill. Examples of such materials include basalt, sand, gypsum, etc.
It is also possible within the scope of the invention to produce building materials from a combination of several of the above to produce sewage sludge.
If necessary, the sewage sludge can be subjected to physical treatment by heating or centrifugation as well as by UV irradiation to increase the solids content.
Further advantageous uses are specified in the subclaims.
