Abstract

The digital signal to be transmitted from one exchange (E1) is sub-divided into part signals by a converter (W1), and sent in parallel mode to the exchange at the other end of the line (E2). Here the same converter system (W2) recombines the part signals into a serial signal for further use. The parallel transmission speed is considerably slower than the speed necessary for the equivalent series signal transmission. The proposed system does however require one pair of cones for each parallel part signal as against one pair only for serial transmission. The lower rate leads to lower attenuation and hence to fewer, or even no, repeater stations along the line.
