The invention relates to a confectionery product based, for example, on a fruit mass and/or plastic chewing mass, for human consumption, which contains ingredients for reducing the harmful effects of tobacco on smokers and at least one vitamin.

Such a confectionery product is known from EP 0 205 133. It is a plastic chewing mass based on a chewing gum base, which primarily contains a basic mineral salt concentrate and at least one plant and/or biological active ingredient in order to be used as a cleaning oral and dental care product, as a harmless biological smoking cessation product or as a means of increasing vitality and performance.

The well-known chewing gum, insofar as it is intended in the form of a smoking cessation aid, is about compensating for the effects of nicotine by reducing the nicotine level in the blood

to reduce the smoker's risk of smoking and to avoid weight gain during the withdrawal process. The main aim is to reduce the smoker's need to smoke, which is why the withdrawal agent is deliberately offered in the form of a chewable preparation, because the chewing process is intended to replace smoking to a certain extent. One element of the known combination of active ingredients for this purpose is a vitamin in the form of calcium D-pantothenate, which, however, is insignificant in meeting the increased vitamin requirements of smokers.

AU 662 877 (WPIDS, AN 95-351528) also describes a tablet or lozenge to help people quit smoking, which can also contain vitamins. The aim of this teaching, however, is to help smokers quit by reducing the withdrawal symptoms through the controlled release of nicotine over a longer period of time.

A plastic chewing gum as a cleaning oral and dental care product is described in DE 20 43 279. Here too, the chewing gum is said to contain a vitamin in the form of calcium D-pantothenate in order to help protect the teeth, the periodontium and the oral mucosa. Studies have shown that deficiency symptoms do not usually occur with regard to this vitamin, even if the daily intake is only 1 mg; see Vitamin Lexicon, 1992, /page 180. Another chewing gum is also described in RD 353 021 (WPIDS, AN 93-342965), whereby the compositions intended for oral hygiene can also contain vitamins, among other things.

Furthermore, sweets in the form of candy are known, see DE 39 41 490, the consumption of which is intended to provide the human body with substances that support performance. Such a sweet comprises a core made of a fruit gum mass and an outer coated sugar coating. In the latter,

The document mentioned does not provide any information about a combination of active ingredients that is beneficial for smokers.

Furthermore, JP 60.094 062 discloses a chewing gum containing vitamins that have been immobilized using cyclodextrin. Preferred vitamins are A, Bl, B2, C, D, E and F. The known chewing gum offers the advantage that the vitamins are less degraded during storage. Furthermore, Przeglad Piekarski i Cukierniczy, 23 (1975) 40-43 describes chocolate, caramel products, crackers and biscuits enriched with vitamins A, Bl, B2, C/Dl and PP. DE 39 42'856 relates to candy molds made from fruit gum, wine gum or fruit jelly, whereby vitamin preparations can be added to the molds. EP 0 580 240 relates to a chewing gum made from a gum mass with incorporated microcapsules and optionally containing vitamin C (page 3 line 25). EP 0 472 428 also describes a chewing gum that can contain water-soluble vitamins, for example vitamin B and C (page 3 line 32). · ■

Tobacco smoke, especially cigarette smoke, contains substances that have both a direct and indirect effect by stimulating the formation of harmful intermediate products such as free radicals. The adequate supply of substances that contribute to the detoxification of these radicals, i.e. the supply of so-called radical scavengers, is therefore of particular importance for smokers. These radical scavengers include in particular beta-carotene (provitamin A), vitamin E and, as a support, vitamin C. Vitamin combinations specially developed for smokers are available on the market to compensate for deficiencies in the vitamins mentioned. The corresponding products are available as medicinal dosage forms, particularly in capsules.

A particular problem exists in that smokers do not see their smoking habit as an illness and therefore largely reject anything that could be considered medical prevention to compensate for the harmful effects of tobacco smoke. For example, smokers mostly do not accept taking medication in the form of tablets, dragees, drops and the like to reduce the harmful effects of smoking. Smoking cessation aids, such as chewing gum based on the base substance described above, are also generally not accepted by smokers because of their medicinal nature, which is why the majority of smokers ultimately continue to smoke without considering the associated vitamin deficiency. . The lower limit of the amounts given above corresponds to about one third of the daily vitamin requirement of a smoker, the upper limit corresponds to three times the daily requirement.

It is important for the candy according to the invention that it is well accepted by smokers and that its consumption is not perceived as taking medication. These requirements are met by the candy according to the invention, as it is designed to accompany smokers during the smoking phase, i.e. it is not intended to wean them off smoking or replace smoking. In the opinion of smokers, the candy according to the invention combines the supply of vitamins that is known to be problematic and urgently needed by smokers to cover their increased vitamin requirements with an optimal vitamin composition. However, it also has the psychological advantage of being presented as a luxury item or as a supplement that is compatible with smoking and therefore offers the decisive advantage of significantly higher acceptance of use and "compliance".

In the confectionery according to the invention, one or more of the above-mentioned components can be encapsulated or gelatinized.

The confectionery product according to the invention can be a candy, in particular a fruit candy, hard caramel or hard dragee, a fruit gum or a chewing gum.

The candy according to the invention can have a core as candy mass and a coating, in particular a dragee coating, wherein the coating contains a content of at least one mineral, vitamin, vitamin precursor (vitamin precursor) and/or vitamin derivative. Examples are vitamin B^, vitamin B2, vitamin C, niacin and/or pantothenate. In the core

It has now been found that an optimal supply of smokers with the additional vitamins required by this target group can be achieved if these active ingredients are incorporated in a specific manner in terms of type and quantity into a hard caramel or hard dragee candy, whereby the candy consists of an inner core and an outer dragee coating according to the process described in DE 3 9 41 4 90.

The incorporation of a vitamin combination aimed at smokers into a confectionery product according to the invention, in particular into a fruit paste or chewing gum base, offers the advantage that the individual active ingredients can be released relatively slowly during the sucking or chewing process and are already partially absorbed by the oral mucosa.

It is also advantageous that the candy according to the invention, for example based on a fruit mass or plastic chewing mass, is not intended for rapid absorption via the gastrointestinal tract, unlike medication, but is sucked or chewed in the mouth over a longer period of time, releasing the vitamin combination it contains. In addition, the fruit mass in particular can be provided with a dragee coating, which, after initially partially dissolving, ensures a further delay in the absorption of vitamins when consumed. The active ingredients and vitamins contained in the candy, in particular vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, can also be advantageously encapsulated in retarding substances, which also enables delayed vitamin absorption over a longer period of time.

The vitamin combination can be quantitatively adjusted per dosage unit of the confectionery according to the invention to the average vitamin requirement of a smoker or to a fraction thereof.

This way, the smoker can be given appropriate consumption instructions, which can easily be staggered depending on the intensity of the smoke. For chewing gum, a dose of 41 mg to 370 mg per unit, i.e. per piece of chewing gum, has proven to be technically feasible.

The composition and manufacturing process for the products according to the invention are described in the following examples, without, however, the products according to the invention being restricted to these two examples or limited in any other way.
