Es ist bekannt, in den Fällen, in denen ein im Fahrzeug angeordneter Gepäckraum nicht ausreicht, Gepäckstücke auf dem Dach in einer dort lösbar mit dem Dach verbundenen Box zu verstauen. Eine solche Gepäckbox erhöht den Luftwiderstand des Fahrzeugs und damit den Kraftstoffverbrauch nicht unerheblich, weshalb denn auch die Gepäckbox nur bei Bedarf montiert, ansonsten aber zu Hause deponiert wird. Diese Aufgabe wird mit den kennzeichnenden Merkmalen des Schutzanspruchs 1 gelöst. Die Erfindung ist besonders sinnvoll anwendbar bei Kleinkraftwagen, bei denen ohnehin wenig Stauraum vorhanden ist und deren Bauhöhe vergleichsweise gering ist, so daß der Dachstauraum gut zugänglich ist. Die Erfindung hat zudem den Vorteil, daß im Gegensatz zur Gepäckbox der zusätzliche Stauraum ständig beim Fahrzeug ist, also auch dann zur Verfügung steht, wenn er mal unvorhergesehenerweise benötigt wird. Eine Vergrößerung des Luftwiderstands ist bei einem erfindungsgemäßen Fahrzeug vernachlässigbar gering, weil der zusätzliche Stauraum in die Gesamtkonzeption des Fahrzeugs bereits mit einbezogen ist im Gegensatz zu einem Fahrzeug mit aufgesetzter Gepäckbox.
