Abstract
Dental reconstitution compsns. (fillings, inlays, etc.) comprise a mixt. of a polymerisable liq. organic resin binder and a finely divided radio-opaque inert inorganic filler. The improvement comprises using ThO2 and/or Ta2O5 in an amt. of 3-10 wt.% (based on total filler) as the only X-ray absorber in the filler. The compsns. combine a high degree of radio-opacity (necessary for dental radiography) with good mechanical and optical properties. Leaching problems associated with the use of Ba-contg. fillers are avoided. The filler pref. contains 3-5 wt.% ThO2, or 3-5 wt.% ThO2 and 1-7 wt.% Ta2O5 or 4-10 wt.% Ta2O5, the balance being a conventional silica or ceramic filler. Standard binders (esp. acrylic resins) and other additives can be used.
