Abstract

A catheter assembly for the transluminal recanalisation of coronary blood vessels of the heart which are blocked consists of a guide catheter and an inside dilatation catheter. Both are made of plastic tubing, slightly curved at the distal end. A wire spiral of very small dia. with a soft point can be moved forward in the dilatation catheter to straighten its curvature or to restore it. Still further forward movement pierces and removes the coronary blockage. This can be used both to expand narrow veins and to pierce any existing blockage so that the blood circulation is restored and the cells are revived.
