Abstract

The mechanism lowers persons or loads by the rope travelling through it, the rope being reeved round a fixed part of the periphery of a pulley so that it cannot slip. When a rope end is pulled, a centrifugal brake limits the rope travel speed, this brake being driven via a speed-increasing gear with an input shaft in bearings in one of the housing walls. The pulley and the driving gear wheel are mounted on this shaft. Only one pulley (38) is provided, on the outside of the housing and overhung. The driving gear (20) is on the opposite side of the housing wall (33) to the pulley.
