Abstract

New N-(2-hydroxyalkylamino)-omega-hydroxycarboxylic acid amides have formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-NH-(CH2)n-HN-CO-(CH2)m-OH (I) (where R1 and R2 are H or 1-20C alkyl; n is 2-10 and m is 2-5, provided that C atom sum in R1 + R2 is 6-20). (I) are prepd. by acylating 2-hydroxyalkyl-alkylene diamines of formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-NH-(CH2)n-NH2 (II) with 3-6C omega-hydroxycarboxylic acids or their derivs., e.g. lactones, anhydrides, halides, esters and amides. By-prods. are cpds. having formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-N CO-(CH2)m - OH -(CH2)n-NH2 (III) and disubstitution prods. having formula R1 -CHOH-CHR2-N CO-(CH2)m-OH -(CH2)n-NH-CO-(CH2)m -OH (IV), but (I) makes up >50 mol.% of reaction prod. (I) are used as greyness inhibitors in textile detergents.
