Abstract

This is an addn. to 2759193, which described armour plating, consisting of >=1 substrate carrying rows of hard objects packed close together. Novelty in the present invention is that the substrate consists of a metal plate which is stamped to form rows of holes with truncated cone- or crater-profiles. Substrate may also consist of plastics fabrics. Metal plate is pref. made of Ti, high tensile steel, and/or light metals, combined with a coating of oxide ceramic, Au and/or Pt. Holes are pref. surrounded by truncated cone walls, or teeth formed by the four sides of a pyramid. A stack of the stamped metal plates may be used, esp. where the holes in one plate are staggered w.r.t. the holes in the next plate in the stack. As compared with the main patent, the absorption of the energy in bullets etc. is improved.
